Caveat: I've never watched Smallville in my life.

However, I did used to read DC comics with the kind of rapacious interest hyenas regard a nice, smelly carcass. If they're even looking at canon...how in the fuck does anybody not know how that turns out?

Not that I approve of it; Superman could've saved thousands of lives had he not always had to bail Lois out of whatever mess she'd gotten herself into. But I digress. Also, I'm a Batman kind of gal.

The thing is...has she ever picked a likely ship in her life? Did she watch Buffy and ship Buffy/Xander? Did she watch Angel and ship Angel/Fred? Did she watch ST:TNG and ship Picard/Troi?

I suspect she looks but cannot see.

I remember reading somewhere that the original pitch of Smallville was to be the story of Chloe, with Superman and Lana in the background. This didn't fly, and it became the story of endless angst between Clark and Lana, with friend Chloe in the background.

Chloe wrote for the school paper, and her goal was to be a journalist. In an early season of Smallville, Chloe actually wrote a news story for the Daily Planet published under "Lois Lane" (her cousin's name)-- so the implication was that Chloe was Lois Lane. (And, you know, that she'd be a journalist and publish under the name Lois Lane later.)

Then they introduced Chloe's cousin-- Lois Lane-- into the show in later seasons. So, yeah. So much for that.

Frankly, I don't think the writers have any clue what to do with the show anymore and haven't since the second season. Alas for shows that go on too long.
