[Good Day]Ahhhh! Today was quite the day.
Work is going well. I'm still doing front-end training (call center stuff). Next week I'll do some side-by-sides and then it's off to the back-end training (pharmacist stuff). Oh, I work at the pharmacy-side of Wellpoint/Anthem, which is PrecisionRx Specialty Services (PRxSS, for short -- thankfully!), so part of my training involves knowledge of that back-end.
There are a couple Ungratefuls in the training group. Well... there were three, but we managed to rescue one; the other two can rot in Anthem Purgotory™ for all I care. They don't seem worth saving. Which I know is mean, but really... they are constantly late, constantly talking to each other, constantly taking the trainer's niceness for granted... But enough of them.
[RLS - Real-Life Slash] Quite different from RPS, of course... but you cannot look at these two and tell me they are not fucking. Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, from their Men's Journal August cover shoot. Phelps is a bit too equestrian for my liking, but Lochte? I'd clean my drawers over them abs! Hummina-hummina!
Big Queer Addendum: Yes, I realize that RLS is, in fact, just regular ol' gay schmexin' (and mostly speculation, truth be told), but this is a mostly-fandom-based journal, and therefor must be somewhat On Topic!
;-P
[Gifts] In my last entry, I wanted to get a feel from Teh List on what sort of 'gifts' they'd like (ie. books and things, basically anything other than porn art films). And the people that answered chose a variety of things. I could choose which ones to focus on, so I grabbed a little bit o' everything.
The List, ( under the covers... )
My recommendations? Obviously, if you're looking for basic web-page coding stuff, then the two New Riders books are a good place to start. More advanced are the Friends of Ed books, but they are also very good. I've a shit load of those, which I'll drop next time. I really like Javascript programming, especially using the AJAX model, but since some browsers allow you to turn off javascript (and often recommend it), you do run the risk of a visitor not being able to fully experience any website you come up with. AJAX helps a website be more interactive, which is good. Some people prefer PHP for that, tho'. PHP is server-side programming, however, which means you have to have access to your website's server. Most hosting plans have simple installs that allow you to 'turn on' server-side programming/uploading. Obviously contact your webhost for such matters. Javascript -- I freely admit -- has a challenge to me, because the actual scripting is rther verbose. PHP is a bit easier, but takes more to get it implemented on your computer.
If anything, you can use these as preview guides for deciding which book(s) to actually buy, especially if you're doing any of the design/programming stuff. One of the more annoying things is having to load up a book AND the program when working the examples. Believe it or not, I have all of these books in hard-cover (except the Sam's one), and it's much easier to self-study that way. The programming/design books are also the ones more likely to be sold for cheap on Amazon's Marketplace section.
Next time, I think I'll have some more design books, 3D animation books, video editing/FX editing books, and of course, more references for writers! Enjoy, everyone!
Well, that's it. I should probably hit the sack. I've a long day tomorrow. Hope everyone is doing well. Hope some of you can use these gifts. And remember: use your new powers for good, not evil.
