8:20pm: Out Of Bounds is Done.
Done!

Out Of Bounds is done and with my betas.

I'm on a plane to Virginia in two hours. I'd say that's cutting close, wouldn't you? *laughs*

Now [info]amothea points out that the SPN Big Bang launches Monday. She's going to be overwhelmed with stories. I don't know how much overlap there is between SPN and SGA.

Are you guys going to be flooded with stories? Would you prefer that I hold onto Out Of Bounds for a little bit (once I get it back from the betas)?

*skips around happily throwing rose petals*

Done! Done! Done!

9:51am: Banging head against the wall.
Working on final transitions in the lead up to John's freeskate in Out Of Bounds, almost out of time. Damn it, they're driving me crazy. They're short. They should be easy.

They're not.

Up until 3am last night, until I realized that I had shut my eyes and ... no more writing was going to happen.

Now none of my usual suspects are online, and I have to talk these scenes out with someone.

Help.

Is there anybody out there?

12:05pm: WG's going to be laid off.
News just came down the pike.

The guys at WG's shipyard are being laid off. He just went back to work this week after months of being injured.

I leave in three days. I come back to no job and no school and not even unemployment. Now he won't have a job either.

Can we assassinate Bush? Please? It would be so satisfying with what he's done to this country with this god damned war and deregulation.

Five days before I leave for the summer intensive. Computer time looks like it will be limited to weekends only thereafter.

Submerging for LJ for a bit to finish Out Of Bounds.

Together, Yet by [info]calicokat, Spock Prime/Kirk, PG-13, Gen, with hints of slash

A compassionate and compelling look at the mind meld in the Star Trek: Reboot. Calico took a moment of the movie that felt like machinae and turned it into so much more. The passing of the torch. Hope. Welcome. Acceptance. Mourning.

Just beautiful.

12:38am: SGA Big Bang? Truly? (And Old Skool Trek ... it's educational.)
There's an SGA Big Bang going on? Is there?

Where is it? Not that it would be insane for me to sign up given Out Of Bounds but I would like to drool a little bit.

Also:

1) I can't wait till the next season of Merlin starts. Can. Not. Wait.

2) WG and I are watching Star Trek episodes on CBS' website. I am delighted to see my f-list has sprung a Star Trek leak. Also, I have learned a great deal about Our Respective Slash Goggles.

Icarus: Oh, my god. How slashy can they get? No wonder this is the classic.
WG (squinting): Because of how close Spock is standing to Kirk there?
Icarus: No! Aliens take over their bodies! Two of the aliens could be gay lovers. Or the female lover of Kirk's alien could take over Spock's body. There are a thousand possibilities. It's so easy!
WG (light bulb moment): Ah. So it's the scenario.
Icarus (light bulb moment): Oh. So it's the intimacy.

Not only is Star Trek fun, and a classic, it's also educational.

Not to be missed: [info]smittywing and [info]reccea's Old Skool Trek Reviews.

12:22pm: Out of excuses.
Good news: [info]skinscript and I finished the choreography for John's freeskate! Now I just have to write the actual scene and I'm all out of excuses and stalling techniques.

I'm skipping class today because:

a) I've already finished my final project so I don't need another workshop,
b) my project is 22 pages long, so no one will have time to give it a read through in another workshop,
c) my project is 22 pages long, so two copies means 44 (!) pages and,
d) I am a skinflint.

WG is walking around the house naked with one sock on. That's entertainment.

(Does it qualify as naked if he's wearing one sock?)

10:21am: Yahoo emails ... blank?
Usually when Yahoo screws up, I'm not able to get into my email account at all.

This is a tease. I open my emails ... and they're blank. Trotting off to clear my cache to see if that solves the problem.

On the plus side, I do get some computer time today. With WG at home I had to share my toys.

12:24am: Bad night for Monte kitty.
Rough night for Monte kitty.

First he gets his kitty treats from WG. So far so good.

Oooh, but they don't sit very well with him.* He makes a quick trip to the litter box.

Ten minutes later, he wafts by mom and dad for some snuggles and pets -- "Oh, ew, what's that smell? Get off of here!"

So he does what every self-respecting cat would do in his circumstance. The brown streak scootch.

Cue more noise from mom and dad -- "Hey! No!" He's confronted with swearing and grumbling. Then he's swooped up by mom and stuffed into the bathroom, where dad already has the dreaded tub running.

Nooooo!

He yowls at the door to be let out. No such luck. He's dipped in warm water, back legs struggling and kicking as mom and dad wash sticky poops off of him.

Finally he makes a break for it, dripping wet, his tail drawing a thin line of water all over the apartment. It takes him forty-five minutes to lick himself dry. Or at least damp.

He hops up onto the bed ... and is forced to sit at the foot of the bed, not on his favorite pillows.

To add insult to injury, from all that licking he ends up throwing up a hairball.

Man, what a night.

* WG has since thrown those treats away.

Will nine more pages do? ;)

And now for the windup to the freeskate... [info]skinscript and I will be busting our tails on the choreography this weekend.

The story in one file up to an earlier chapter: Out Of Bounds.

Title: Out Of Bounds
Author: Icarus
Rating: NC-17 overall
Pairing: John/Rodney
Summary: "Let me guess. Your brain's revving like a squirrel on amphetamines."

A/N: Thank you once again to the beta team, [info]rabidfan and [info]roaringmice (skating consultant), [info]tingler, and now [info]skinscript (choreographer).
Previously in Out Of Bounds: Known more for his jumps than his artistry, figure skater John Sheppard hires ex-skating champion and "artiste" Rodney McKay to be his coach. Their teasing friendship warms into something more. After a year of training and preparation... the U.S. Championships.

9:33am: Cliffhanger, eh?
So I take it from you guys (I have not watched yet) that SPN ended on a cliffhanger?

Is that true? Because I'm perfectly prepared to wait till September to watch the most recent ep.

In other news... monte kitty (currently age nine) keeps doing this butt-shifting thing when he sits down, like he has to work to get comfortable. He's getting older. Our cat Trigger used to do this and he had arthritis in his hips. What do think? Kitty arthritis? I'm worrying too much?
8:51am: Bailouts, huh, more like pigs at a trough
General motors, who received billions in federal bail-out funds, is sending US jobs to China.

The bailouts are still going on. Prudential's in line for bailout funds.

That's is. Pull the plug. Cash is still being given out with no strings attached. No requirement that these benefit American jobs.

If there's no requirement that these benefit American jobs we'll have an economic recovery for the wealthy while there's no economic recovery for the middle class.

Bailouts. This is pigs at a trough.

10:28am: fts;dr
You know the old standby "tl;dr"?

Need a new one for "font too small; didn't read."

Yes, yes, one can use Cntrl++ and ?style=mine or ?for_at=light --

(Yes, I forgot and copied over the C&P. The " " troubles continue, still need new keyboard, growing less funny by the day... one sec, have to copy new "m"...)

-- but there's that instant of "ow!" when you open up a mile-long comment or a post written in a teenie-tiny itsy-bitsy microscopic font.

For driveby DW reading? Forget it. I only break for fanfic.

2:11pm: Do I write around this?
You know the way you occasionally (ihgt) recall (reeber) a word, but perhaps (aybe) aren't sure how to pronounce it? So you talk around it?

I'll (I') going to have to do that for (the tie being) now. The letter "m" (had to cut and paste it here) is broken on y keyboard.

Aazing how any words use the letter " ", eh?

First thing we do, let's kill all the passwords with the letter " " because that's already probleatic....

12:32pm: Out Of Bounds and, wow, choreography is hard.
Hmm. Interesting. People are actually using Dreamwidth</i>, commenting, friending people. I'm icarus there, by the way.

I move with the statistics. Swim with the fishes--

--wait. That's the not the right metaphor.

Out Of Bounds: Wrote two more transitional scenes leading up to the freeskate (sigh, there was only supposed to be one transitional scene, but Rodney demanded attention). Heard back from ze beta team this weekend and last night.

Writing the freeskate ... wow. No wonder choreographers make so much money. Choreograpy is hard. But we made terrific progress on the background for John's freeskate last night. [info]skinscript and I are now 1:40 into a 4:38 minute program. We're talking out the choreography in chat. Step by step, fully choreographing the whole program. Then I'm going back and writing the summer scenes where they developed it. Then [info]roaringmice is looking over my descriptions, while [info]rabidfan and company tackle everything else. I feel like I should be paying them, I really do.

Tidbit from the summer choreography sessions:

"That looks like tiger style," John commented.

Rodney and Sonja gave him twin blank looks.

"Like in the kung-fu movies? Every defensive move is an offensive move? You hold your hands like claws?" John clenched his fingers and struck a kung-fu pose. Sonja glanced at Rodney, who spread his hands in defeat. "Come on, you had to have seen this," John whined, shoulders sagging.

Eee! I can haz choreographic help for John's long program!

*smishes [info]skinscript*

Time to get back to work. 0:00 - 0:25 minutes successfully choreographed. Now to do 0:25 - 2:22 minutes into John's music.

P.S. I was on the news tonight. Huh. I keep stumbling in front of cameras.

Now writing the choreography for John's long program.

I'm officially scared of this scene.

To make myself see it, I'm writing background scenes from the summer training. Maybe wqatching Sonja do the choreography will make it easier. *tears at hair*
