Fox to redo 'Absolutely Fabulous' Network taps Zander to adapt Saunders series Edina and Patsy are ready to take on L.A.
Fox is developing a redo of Jennifer Saunders' enduring Britcom "Absolutely Fabulous," to be exec produced by Mitch Hurwitz, Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum for Sony Pictures TV, Tantamount and BBC Worldwide America.
Christine Zander ("Saturday Night Live") is set to write the script and will exec produce along with the BBC's Ian Moffet and original series creator Saunders. Fox has given Sony a script order with hefty penalty attached.
The latest attempt at a U.S. rendition of "Ab Fab" will be transplanted to L.A. but retain the basic template of the original, revolving around the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful and who carry on under the disapproving eye of Edina's teenage daughter, Saffy.
More than a decade ago, Roseanne Barr worked on developing a U.S. version of the show with Carrie Fisher for ABC. CBS' 1995-98 Cybill Shepherd comedy "Cybill" had an "Ab Fab" flavor to it. Another short-lived 1995 sitcom, CBS' "High Society," starring Jean Smart and Mary McDonnell, was a thinly veiled imitation.
Original series starred Saunders and Joanna Lumley. It was a big hit in Britain and successful import for Comedy Central. In the U.K., "Ab Fab" ran as a regular series from 1992-95, with a two-part finale airing in 1996. Saunders and Lumley reunited for further adventures with fresh segs produced in 2001 and 2003.
The show has lots of potential to work in the States, especially if it takes place in LA, but I really don't want it to be remade. I have a feeling that Jennifer Coolidge might be cast in it, haha... *runs back to work* |

And we thought the Bat-Fam was emo before? http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993158.html?categoryid=14&cs=1I.. I have no words for the feelings of dread creeping up my fanboy spine. Next, we can likely expect a retake on classic westerns about a poor, disfigured farmer's son who whines and mopes for seven years without ever becoming a badass bounty hunter. To The Fray songs no less. Because dammit, that's how I wanna see Jonah Hex! Current Mood: GRRRRRR |

Running With The Theme, or Hey Kids, What Time Is It? It's time to play everyone's favorite game: AMV Matchup! The fandom_rant thread is starting to drift toward this anyway, so let's make it official... As established, everybody's sick and tired of the same old same old when it comes to AMVs. Too much "Mortal Kombat" theme. Too much Evanescence. Too much Linkin Park. Too much "boom-de-yada"[1]. Too much...and the list goes on. So what do you think would work, that you haven't seen? Provide links to music/video if you wish. I'll throw one out as an opening suggestion: kadath and I and a few others were discussing the possibility of some of the old folk tunes. How about Old Dun Cow (as performed here by the Brobdingnagian Bards, but I have an MP3 by the Crimson Pirates I think would work better) set to a Lina Inverse ( Slayers) eating/drinking/making things explode montage? ( ecchaniz0r, they also have a pretty awesome cut of "Bedlam Boys"/"Tom Of Bedlam.") [1] Besides, how can you top XKCD? Fall Out Boy donates $50K to No on Prop 8. "We believe government shouldn't legislate love. Vote no on proposition 8."(For non-Californians: Proposition 8 would amend the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Currently, same-sex marriage is legal via judicial ruling.) ETA: Additional links, while I'm at it. Without expletive deleted. This one also mentions that Google also opposes the measure. Apparently so do Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg. |

WAHHHH! HOW DARE YOU HATE MY SHOW! A mini-wank growing on ANN that Zac didn't purposely start. *shock* Every new season, ANN has an Anime Preview Guide that has different reviewers watch an episode or two of a new series and give it a review. That also means that show defenders will jump into the forum and call the reviewer an uninformed idiot if they give the episode a bad review. Casey's review of Clannad ~After Story~ is causing the most fuss with the fanboys that the mods had to get involved. Edit: Zac is now trolling with a Clannad review on his page. |

Daniel Hemmens doesn't like Harry Potter He also doesn't like HP fanfic rip-offs, so you can imagine what he thinks of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones. But you don't have to imagine! because he reviews it in the latest FerretBrain. In short, "This book makes Harry Potter look like a thoughtfully constructed work of character-driven drama." |

Ryan Lochte Gave Me Chlamydia! TOTALLY TRUE! Over on ontd_olympics, brand-spankin'-new user kristixkupcakes (journal now deleted) posts a tl;dr entry (also now deleted) titled "MY SEXUAL ENCOUNTER WITH RYAN LOCHTE." Her long, sordid tale of a disappointing hookup with the US Olympic gold-medal swimmer includes the following highlights: ( I'm doing bodyshots off Ryan and everybody's in a deep drunken haze )Again with the sympathy and the "omg, I totally knew he was a douchebag!" At least until kristixkupcakes posts again: MY SEXUAL ENCOUNTER WITH RYAN LOCHTE -- MORE.
So I've been an avid watcher of this community and ONTD and I've finally joined here and noticed how everybody's gaga over the kid I slept with on my birthday and I think you guys should know what happened because your opinion of him will change. And then, behind an lj-cut: you just got punk'd. - christopher ashton kutcher <3
USE A CONDOM!The comments EXPLODE. Accusations of sockpuppetry and mod involvement abound, and there are calls for bannination, as well as the usual "OMG, you guys, have a sense of humor!" Again, this one's been bahleeted, but there are screencaps for downloading: before the post was unlocked and after it was unlocked. Finally, like all good wanks, this one's wrapped up with a mod post claiming that the whole shenanigan was the result of a "chat that got too out of hand." Things seem to be settling down for now, but who knows? Maybe Nastia Liukin will eat someone's baby, or Usain Bolt will turn out to actually be a cyborg! IT COULD TOTALLY HAPPEN, PEOPLE. Sleezer: World Domination Tour PART IV: ATTACK OF THE 404 ERROR The rebel forces at MLL got their bus ads (at least two of them, which is like 5%) Notice I'm linking to the images at BWP, because the Death Star forums at MLL have mysterious gone down. There are rumors and speculation that Sleezer and Kate are in the MLL chat and kick out everyone who tries to pop in. Kayspleen who donated all the money for the ads was banned from MLL as were JTF, evilyn, and lila. Mod Reuben quit and was replaced by pantiesinawad bunchesoffun. There is a fun philosophical discussion on the nature of hate over at BWP. Will the forums come back up? Will we ever find out how much the ads actually cost? Will we learn if the kind of bus the ads are on makes a difference? Will we find out if Sleezer actually ate any of those pagan babies? Stay tuned... ETA alpha: rijane has more dirt on Sleezer deleting a huge chunk of the forum late last night. ETA beta:: Leeser caught lurking at BWP?? ETA gamma: Ex-MLL mods offer pretty damning evidence that Sleezer skimmed $10k off the 2008 con money.ETA delta: rijane explains about lawyers filing charges in this mess. ETA epsilon: More con $$ shennanigans. ETA zeta: SLEEZER SAYS MLL FORUM DOWN FOR GOOD!edited to remove link to chat transcript because it violates F_W rules. You can find it if you dig around at BWP, but I am suspicious of the empty brand new journal. ETA eta: I smell bullshit. I'm not the brightest bulb in the hallway, but this reads like one of Sleezer's supporters pretending to be a mouse and "leaking" info to us. YMMV. ETA theta: www.lisagerry.com/ includes lots of MLL caps and all sorts of fun and damning evidence! ETA iota: BWP has gone to registered users only for the off-topic forums. So none of these links work now. YAY? I think that concludes this wank unless Sleezer brings the forums back and explains it was a social experiment or something. disclosure: I registered over there because I wanted to ask the site owner to take my user name off of lisagerry.com. AOHell, still. AOL's Hometown and AOL Journals are "closing their doors." Dear AOL Journals user,
We're sorry to inform you that on Oct. 31, 2008, AOL® Journals will be shut down permanently. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
It is very important that you save your Journals content before the shutdown. We're working on a way to easily move your Journal to another blogging service -- you can expect an email within the next week with more details about how to do it. We want the transition to go as smoothly as possible for you, so you'll have two choices. You can either save your information manually and find another place to blog on your own, or let us handle the migration for you and automatically transfer your Journal to a different blogging service. No word as to WHY but a couple of people on my LJ f-list are mourning their fanfic archives. I don't use AOL but if you do then, y'know, heads up! |

Looking for a writer's program I can't remember the name, but I think it might have been posted here. All I remember is that it's supposed to help you organize profiles, illustrations, and so on that go with your writing. The screenshot I saw of it showed multiple windows with a black background.
Does anyone remember its name? I'm curious about it now but without any specifics to google I can't find it.
ETA: Thank you, my speedy web elves. It is indeed Liquid Story Binder. :D |

Spawn of the Hot Wet Planet If you read the fandom_wank report on "Hot Wet Planet," or even if you didn't, you might be horrified amused by something a friend of mine produced after reading it (not like that. Sicko). A few commenters brought up points regarding tentacle monsters that he grabbed and ran with much further than any sane person should, resulting in... this. I can't seem to get a direct link to the blog entry, but since he never uses a tag more than once... http://karaoke_vicious.blogspot.com/search/label/Vive%20le%20Hot%20Wet%20PlanetIf you've read the wank report, skip about halfway down the page to the giant bold letters. Changes to Iron Man 2-disc DVD? Okay, this is seriously the stupidest thing ever, but it's driving me crazy and I want to know if I'm the only one who thinks this. So, I just got the shiny 2-disc Iron Man DVD set, and I swear that a line of dialogue has been changed from the original, but I'm not sure. Looking for a fandom check to see if anyone else remembers it the same way I did, or if I'm just loopy. Remember in Iron Man, when Tony was sniping at his stupid robot helper during the suit-testing? I DISTINCTLY remember him saying "...donate you to an inner city middle school." On the DVD, he says "...donate you to a city college." Bzuh? Not that this is important or anything, but now I'm curious as to what people remember the line being, if they remember it at all. IMDB says 'city college', but one of my IM buddies also remembers the line as 'middle school'. It's not the only thing that is a bit different: there's also this: http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/iron-man/iron-man-dvd-not-what-you-saw-in-theatres.phpThose of you who were keeping up with the production of IRON MAN may notice the above frame is actually director Jon Favreau’s big apology to movie site IESB on the behalf of Paramount for shutting down their website for 24 hours (I can’t remember the exact time frame) because of that photo of the character from the film set which was taken by Ronnie Adams and published 100% legally by the site... One guy was still loosing out and that was photographer Ronnie Adams, who didn’t care for the “in-joke” at all and was still so pissed at what Paramount had done to him that he has filed a lawsuit against said image being used without permission in the film, so it’s been cut from the DVD release. The lawsuit isn’t actually settled or decided in Adams’ favour but Paramount have cut it anyway to avoid complications for recalls, the image of IRON MAN will be replaced by a generic photo, not too disimilar I should think to this one… Anyway, not out to start a wank, just confused as to whether my memory is that bad (I saw the film in theatres twice) or whether this is a mysterious minor change... |

The Saga of Leeser Continues! Because this wank keeps getting wackier and weirder, we've moved on to post #3. In episode one, we were witness to the dramatic tension on the Moonlight Line forum when kaysspleen demands to know where the $11k she donated for bus ads back in July was. See the first wank report over here, brought to you by the fabulous and possibly masochistic cleolinda. In episode two, the drama continued as the forum itself is sabotaged, IPs and users are banned (but rise as ghosts!) and posts suddenly vanish. See the second wank report here.In tonight's episode, we have flash backs to a time that Leeser may wish she'd remembered to get rid of. You see, Leeser has not always been a PR wannabe and Head Vampire of her own forum. Oh no, she's been a very busy little bee, unbeknownst to our beloved, plucky MLL forum members. Leeser is not just the Head Vampire, she's also the head of her own church. She also ran her own school, which suffered from some of the same problems others have complained about. Things like, never being able to actually contact her and providing substandard material. Oh, and let's not forget... disappearing with the money. She is also providing virtual life services (whatever that is). And she takes paypal, btw! In total, she's been spotted with dozens of websites of varying schemes. From MLL forum admin to notary, to virtual life host, to online web host, to webpage designer, to pagan priestess (Reverend even!) to head of her own online school for homeschooling pagan children, to ... pardon, my head is spinning. She's used at least 4 aliases in all these dealings, to boot. Redwinter, from MLL, also provides a very nice timeline for those who feel like they are drowning in this sea of wank. Meanwhile, back at the ranch... the MLL folks are still in an uproar over all the discoveries. Though with all the revelations, even the most stalwart Leeser defenders are starting to retreat.(Discliamer: Some links show her real life name and address, which is why they are not displayed here. But to the discerning and plucky F_W detective, it's easy to find. She's plastered her real life name, phone number and address everywhere, it seems.) And now the March of the ETAs. 1. Well, most of the Snowflakes are waking up... except for elizabuff.2. Moonlight Line is due to be renewed at the end of the month. But don't worry. Several FW members have been mad capping. 3. Leeser makes the claim (somewhat with contradictions) that it costs around 100-200 a month to host the MLL board. Yet she's told some of her former mods that it costs her nothing. 4. Wait... she just renewed the website to her former school. 5. Shocking! The vials actually did arrive!6. Also, Leeser wants your babies. I mean, to let others adopt them. Really. Quote: Are you a pregnant Pagan looking to place your child for adoption? Are you a Pagan looking to adopt? Free adoption referral services. |

Rant at me here! My friend and I have just started a new RP on Livejournal, and I'm working on a list of 'gentle suggestions', or Do's and Dont's, to help keep things running smoothly. Since I know there are a lot of RPers around here who probably have a lot more experience than I do, I wanted to open the floor - what RP killers have you seen, and how would you avoid them? What's made some of your RP experiences more pleasant than others? What advice would you give a first-time RPer, or even an experienced one who might've gotten into some bad habits? By the way, if anyone's interested, it's a multi-sport AU set in a boarding/prep school - Doubleday Academy. We're currently accepting applications! Current Mood: Fan-Fucking-tastic |

Intelligently designed wank Who's in the mood for a good ol' academic tussle? 1. Professor Steve Fuller writes a book called Dissent over Descent: Intelligent Design's Challenge to Darwinism. 2. Professor AC Grayling reviews the book for New Humanist magazine. It is sometimes hard to know whether books that strike one as silly and irresponsible...are the product of a desire to strike a pose and appear outrageous (the John Gray syndrome), or really do represent that cancer of the contemporary intellect, post-modernism. 3. Fuller responds to the review. I wish I could repay AC Grayling’s compliment by naming an exotic mental pathology after him, but regrettably his review of Dissent over Descent displays disorders of a much more mundane kind: he has merely failed to read the book properly and does not know what he is talking about. 4. Grayling responds to the response. Steve Fuller complains, as do all authors whose books are panned, that I did not read his book properly (or at all). Alas, I did. 5. Forum fight! |

Minority report! So, in this month's picspam poll, there's the usual Karl-the-eternal-bridesmaid shenanigans (one day, Bree!), but also, down at the bottom, is "famous vampires," which is really cool but stands no chance of winning unless there's some ballot box stuffing later. Because the new Knight Rider is working out so well... NBC has picked up an updated version of The Partridge Family.A fan of the 1970s series, (Jeff) Rake (writer/producer on Bones, Boston Legal and The Practice), plans to "turn the premise on its head."
"In the original, the kids actually recruited their mom to front the band, which I can't see happening in any family on this planet," he said. "The new version will reflect what seems to me to be the more realistic family band scenario these days: a struggling, sort of well-meaning mom pimping her kids in order to create a wholesome-slash-sexy cash cow." |

Oh, Mai! More Avatar wank! akapiratequeen makes a post to avatar_fans regarding her dislike of Zuko/Mai. Mai. I just don't understand her appeal to Zuko. They are shown dating, even kissing, back when she is a bored, spoiled bee-otch with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever (she's not even drawn cute!). Sure, she has one great moment at the prison, but up until then she's killed and maimed loads of people and -- unlike Ty Lee -- never even seems to question it or show remorse. She says she was scared of Azula, but (also unlike Ty Lee) that fear is never shown -- she's just happy to see her when she shows up at the beginning because "nothing's happening around here." So someone please explain to me -- how does she end up with Zuko? Answers start off fairly mildly, some saying they don't like Mai, others saying cute is subjective or 'you may not like her but Zuko does'. Enter misora, a fairly well know Zutura shipper, with a couple of comm recs where the OP may find some like minded fans.- I see this here and I share your pain. Commmme to our ship!! It's dark and intriguing! We have cookies.

Let's talk oldschool anime I just finished ep 2 of Gatchaman, which was probably ripped from the DVDs cause it was dubbed, and now I can't help thinking 70s sentai/shounen anime is fucking narmy.
