[mood |stressed]
[music |Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Psychomodo]

Just a few more magazines I'm adding to the big list of stuff I really really need out of my apartment and could desperately use some cash for at the moment. These I thought were in my "sell" stack but my mum got them all mixed up and I had to re-sort last night.

Vanity Fair, June 2005. Angelina Jolie, Pope John Paul II, Frank Sinatra, 29 movie stars on B-way $5
Vogue, November 2002. Catherine Zeta-Jones & Renee Zellweger, Ralph Lauren, Baz Luhrmann, Hairspray on Broadway, VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards $5 (this is a huge one, abt. 500 pages so shipping might be a bit higher)
Empire, January 2004. Big LOTR issue. Still in slipcover. $15
NME, Glastonbury Special, 2003. Retrospective of Glastonbury festival: Coldplay, Oasis, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Jeff Buckley, Hole, The Smiths, PJ Harvey, Pulp, The Verve, No Doubt, The Cure, Bob Dylan, Happy Mondays, Joe Strummer, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Queens of the Stone Age $10

Magazine backissues for sale! [Jun. 24th, 2005|12:59 am]
[mood |skint]
[music |Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God]

Yes, I'm crossposting this everywhere. Shush. I'm broke and soon to be homeless.

Anyway, I'm a bit strapped and I have a bunch of magazines I'm getting rid of because I'm moving and don't feel like moving them along with the rest of my crap, but before I frantically try to do Ebay listings (because I have so many anyway if I don't have to list them all it'd be great), I thought I'd put up a list here and see if there are any takers. Asking prices are somewhat negotiable and don't include shipping, but if you're really interested I can see what it'll cost and get back to you. Shouldn't be more than $3 or $4 in the States. If I can remember for sure that I never bothered to read them, I've mentioned it.

Here's what I got )

And even if you don't really need them, please consider taking them off my hands 'cause it'd be doing me a tremendous favour. If you have questions about any of them, you can either ask me here or email me at ipomoea@gmail.com, if you don't want to ask it publicly.

Writers/RPers needed for HP RPG [Apr. 15th, 2005|10:46 pm]
[mood |Pimping]
[music |The Coral - Calendars and Clocks]

So there's this really cool new HP RPG looking for players, and I'm pimping it on all my journals because I'm a nice minion good like that. Take a look, and if you're interested please drop a note to the mod over there!

All I ever do is pimp these days. [Nov. 17th, 2004|08:43 pm]
[mood |Fantastico]
[music |Brian Eno - Needle in the Camel's Eye]

This has apparently become my fandom pimping journal. Anyway, I started a _daily comm over on LJ for Romola Garai fans to post pictures. It's romola_daily, if anyone here is interested.

If you haven't heard of her, she's British, and fabulous. She was terrific in I Capture the Castle and Vanity Fair, where she played the very un-Romola-like Amelia Sedley. (Romola, of course, being very articulate in interviews and self-deprecating in that well-educated sort of way. She swears like a sailor and she quite likes to speak her mind. It doesn't hurt that she rather hilariously snarked on Kate Bosworth in an interview once, either.)

So go join it, please? I'll share my liquor stash if you do!

HFF - pimping my girl like whoa [Oct. 8th, 2004|10:13 pm]
[mood |Pimping]
[music |The Libertines - What A Waster]

x-posted from LJ

I know some of you are in the L.A. area or can get there, so I have a recommendation if you're looking for something to do next weekend. A week from today, that's Friday, the 15th, the Hollywood Film Festival will have the U.S. premiere of the movie Pure at 9 pm. It's a British production, directed by Gillies Mackinnon and starring Molly Parker, David Wenham, Keira Knightley, and Harry Eden (who is AMAZING as Paul. This film rests mostly on this kid's shoulders, and he's simply fantastic). It's a very gritty drama dealing with heroin addiction, not light viewing, but very very good. It's also very difficult to see in the States, unless you managed to catch a Sundance channel airing or have someone tape it (as I did) or order the DVD from either the UK or Australia. If you can make it to the screening, I recommend it.

Tickets are available here.

Oh, for living fuck's sake. [Jun. 24th, 2004|05:15 pm]
[mood |*eyeroll*]

Having seen all the "OMG we're so pissed 'cause we're not teh KEWL KIDZ" comments flying around, I've decided to keep this short.

Did I know about the deletion beforehand? Yes.
Did I think it was funny? Yes.
Do I think ZR should have undeleted when she did? No.
Does that ultimately matter in the long run? No.
Do I think we (the "cool kids" and mods) were wanky? Oh, hell yes. And boy, did we ever know it. So all the accusations of wankiness are extraneous.

There was never a big deal about being "in" or "out" until those who felt on the outs made it so, and it seems to me like that's the deep-rooted issue behind all the splooging now.

Just a thought. [Jun. 21st, 2004|12:13 pm]
[mood |loved]

Am I being racist and anti-Irish if I happen to mention in a conversation somewhere that all the Irish members of my family have died of alcohol-related diseases? And yes, there's documentation, so it's not like I'd just be making stuff up to perpetuate the "Irish are all drunks" stereotype.

Purely hypothetical situation, but something I was pondering.

A guestbook for PR [Jun. 11th, 2004|12:12 am]
[mood |*sporfle!*]

Ok, I'm sure some of you will think that I smoked too much crack than normal today (LOL!), but based on the paparazzi events in the past few weeks, I feel that a certain "demographic" fan base of PR should have one place to post supportive public comments to PR.

If you go to the PR's Real Fan's Guestbook that I created this morning, if you are interested, please just post a nice comment in support of PR. I would suggest that you don't post anything too harsh or counter productive about "love and light", "freeing teh gay", or even flat out say "famegrabbing attention whores" or whatever, because it could lessen the seriousness and impact of your true message. The primary goal of this is to let PR or anyone associated with them to know that there are fans out there that just love them as they are and that they shouldn't have to play games for their clients to be something that they may not be.

You never know who will possibly read this guestbook, so, be wise, cool, and sharp in your choice of words in support of PR.

Thanks!

:-)

Because there's never a bad excuse for Orlando picspammage, yo. )

ETA: Added one more picture.

PSP sketch method [Apr. 18th, 2004|03:08 am]
[mood |crappy]
[music |Blur - Sing]

You know, this wank had me thinking, and [info]lulinda's last post did, too. We've found lots of new ways to make "sketch" images in PS, but what about PSP? Anyway, I played around a little and I think I found a process that works, but it all depends on the image you start with. I did an Orlando one just to change it up a little from all the Dom "sketches" we've been getting today. :D

The Steps - I'm not including the settings, because you kind of just have to play around with it to get it to look right. And I'm sure if I keep playing around I can figure out something better than this, even.

1. Colors>Grey Scale
2. Effects>Enhance Photo>Auto-enhance Contrast
3. Effects>Artistic Effects>Black Pencil
4. Colors>Adjust>Brightness/Contrast
5. Effects>Blur>Motion Blur
6. Colors>Adjust>Brightness/Contrast
7. Layers>New Layer
8. Flood Fill (Parchment texture)

Most of you are probably already on [info]fandom_lounge and saw this already, but just in case you aren't, there is a new community for preserving the backstories of some of [info]fandom_wank's biggest past wanks. Go! Join! And if you were around in the LJ or Blurty days, please contribute backstory on the wanks that started way back when that still just won't die.

*sigh* [Mar. 27th, 2004|08:10 pm]
[mood |busy]
[music |Blur - Essex Dogs]

I feel like I've been neglecting my JF. Which I suppose I have been, in a way, because I've been posting like a fiend on LJ. I've been around here, but not outside of DL Anon or Fandom Wank, really, so here's a bit of an update for anybody who might not usually catch up via LJ (most of you are on my LJ flist, though, right?).

I finally got around to updating my site after almost a year. Changed the layout, and started with some additions that needed to be made.

Posted a bunch of scans. And there are more coming, because I had a whole list of the stuff I'd had just sitting around here waiting for me to get the damn scanner working again. It needed drivers reinstalled, plus it ALWAYS needs cleaning. Grr, dust.

I still have loads of comments to catch up with over there. I have residual guilt over that. Must get caught up soon.

And I really need to write my movie reviews before I forget everything. Summary: I liked Secret Window, thought Hidalgo was lame, and am considering writing a Ned Kelly review anyway despite the fact that I haven't yet seen it on the big screen. *crosses fingers that I'll get to go to Dallas next week* I've had the DVD since last year, though, so I've already seen it a bunch of times.

Oh! And I wanted to pimp Lu's Evil!Orlando, too. Isn't he cute? He's not as evil as he'd like to think, but he sure is cute!

Oh. My. God. Bitch. You. Didn't. [Feb. 17th, 2004|07:24 pm]
[mood |depressed]

Usually tinhattery amuses me. Sometimes, however, it annoys the fuck out of me.

Take, for example, a woman who claims to be gay. Yet, she's married. To a man. Despite this, she consistently pulls out her "queer cred" on people who are ACTUALLY gay, and on people who have ACTUALLY studied queer theory. Then she has the gall to claim they know nothing, and should educate themselves, because she is the All-Knowing Gay Guru. What. Ever.

It always amuses me, even though it's frustrating, to see people who aren't remotely in a position to do so feeling so free to be judgemental about how other people are put together and live their lives.

And it always amuses me, even though it's frustrating, to see people being willfully ignorant and claiming to know more than people who are far more qualified to have an expert opinion. Why, I do believe I hear something. Oh, look, it's a pot, and it's screaming, "BLACK!"

Homophobia affects anyone who doesn't look and behave exactly the way they're supposed to according to society's rules for sex and gender. A man who looks and acts like Carson Kressley is still going to get shit regardless of whether he sleeps with women. Women who don't shave or wear makeup still put up with catty bullshit and worse regardless of whether they sleep with other women or not. In fact, gender policing is even alive and well within the gay community, where masculine men are practically deified, and no-one wants to identify as a bottom because of the socio-psychological issues around sexual passivity equaling femininity, etc.

There is so much bullshit here I don't know where to start. There are lots of straight women who don't shave or wear makeup. I see them every day. They're called college students, who don't have the time, or are too lazy, or what have you. Guess what? No one makes a big deal out of it! And know something else? I don't recall any of the gay men I've known expressing any of this "gender-policing" stuff she's talking about. The ones who did talk about sex, to my recollection, seemed quite comfortable with every aspect of it, yes, even being a bottom.

It means getting rid of girls forcing other girls to obsess over appearance and starve themselves to death to reach ideals of slim femininity.

I won't deny there's societal pressure to be thin. But "forcing"? Come on.

We're not all Aryan heterosexual Barbie and Ken, nor should anyone be attempting to make us all like that.

Does Godwin's Law apply to that statement? Please, someone, tell me that it does.

Homophobia will go away when we stop trying to put people into little boxes and attacking them when they color outside the lines.

Yes, but sometimes people need to be put into the little boxes for their own safety and to prevent them from attacking others.

For the love of God, woman, no one is martyring you to the cause of Teh Gay but yourself! So get down off your cross already.

A few days ago [info]lulinda and I were having this really funny discussion about the Troy movie, that turned into all kinds of crazy stuff. Anyway, we decided the Paris/Helen just wasn't flying, so we came up with our own OTP, which I am crossposting here.

So much better than icky het! )
