This is probably wanky in and of itself, but does anybody else bristle when fandom_wank starts mocking the source material instead of the wank? I thought it was supposed to be a place where we could complain about the morons we share our fandoms with... not one where we have to sit and listen to people insulting our taste.

Okay, I'm pissed. I am pissed.

I made the mistake of mentioned to the assfaced pigs in my astrophysics class that I am writing a novel. When the fucksticks wanted more information, I said it was a fantasy story; knights and ladies and elves and all that. So what did they do? They decide I must be ripping off Lord of the Rings and proceed to spend the next half an hour teasing me about it.

"What's it called? 'The Duke of the Bracelets'?"

Har har har de fucking har, dickhead.

There are a lot of things I will put up with, but that is not one of them. I get inspiration from a lot of places, and yes, it was LotR that made me want to write about elves, but my elves are not Tolkien's and my story bears no resemblance to his books... and they have absolutely no right to make fun of something I've worked so hard at when they know nothing about it!

You want to mock something of mine that you've read? Go for it! I don't ask that you like my stuff... but I ask that you read it before you pass goddamn judgement on it! And yes, I'm sure they thought they were just joking... but they can heat that up red-hot and stick it in their assholes. Do they think I'm so lacking in creativity that I'd have to resort to plagiarizing something? And do they really think I wouldn't mind them joking about such a thing.

I have no words bad enough for them. Asshats, motherfuckers, jerkfaces, self-absorbed, left-brained philistines who have probably never had a single creative thought in their entire fucking lives. They owe me $4.80 for the sundae I bought to try and cheer myself back up... because it didn't even work.

Posting here because the person who has been pissing me off reads my livejournal.

So there's this empty-skulled 16-year-old Lost Universe fan (yes, the LU fandom is accumulating airheaded 16-year-olds. Fear) who has been annoying the fuck out of me on AIM recently. It's hard to say what she's doing that makes me want to scream... it's just she's always there, being empty-skulled and 16, and blabbing on about crap I'm not interested in (it occurs to me that this last point could apply to me, also... but I make a point of asking if I'm annoying somebody, and not talking to somebody who clearly doesn't want to talk to me). Her favourite topic? Her friend who thinks KaneXMilly is incest and the two are obviously just friends. It was kind of interesting... the first time.

So a while back, she decided that livejournal needed an LU community - I told her to go for it because I thought it was honestly a good idea. So she forms the community, a few members (many of them her fellow empty-skulled 16-year-old LU fans) sign up, discussions start, and then what happens?

Well, eventually it gets onto the topic of KaneXMilly, and the majority of the members declare the two 'just friends'. So my tormentor sits and whines in her own journal about how her community went to hell in less than a week. 'Scuze me? I don't see anything that would make it to LJdrama... just a few people who disagree with you. Imagine that! People actually might not have the same opinion you do! Oh, but that's not why you made the community, is it? You made it for people who AGREE with you? Who invited these infidels?!

Somebody call the Whaaaaaaambulance.

My evening can be best summed up by posting the AIM conversation crystaldawn and I just had:

Ironychan: I just saw The Hulk.
SailorN1: How was it?
Ironychan: Bad. Bad by the standards of a person who likes things with titles like Attack of the 50-Foot Centrefold.
SailorN1: O_o Wow. Another excuse for Marvel to dump tons of money into SF?
Ironychan: The first half-hour was okay, considering that nothing really important seemed to happen.
Ironychan: The next hour and a half were lots of action sequences that didn't really seem to go anywhere and took too long... and I can't believe nobody ever looked at the script and said, "guys... the bad guy in this section is a mutant poodle."
SailorN1: *dies*
Ironychan: The last half hour can only be described as... well, y'know those 'what the shit' icons that are everywhere? That.
SailorN1: Wow. O_o
Ironychan: There was this guy who could merge with anything he touched, so he became Lightning Man, Rock Man, and Water Man in quick succession. Good thing those were available, 'cause Vinyl Man, Park Bench Man, and Linoleum Man wouldn't have had nearly the visual impact.
SailorN1: XD *snort* That's lovely.
Ironychan: All in all, the movie was much like it's protagonist: Big, Loud, Stupid, and Green. (The amount of green was un-freakin-believable... and not just the big guy, there was green everywhere.)
SailorN1: O_o Because green is the color of *Satan*? XD
Ironychan: That must be it!!
SailorN1: I swear, I read that in an article on how Harry Potter was teh *devil* once. XD
Ironychan: Of course he is! And Ron is Beelzebub!
SailorN1: D00d! :D What's that make Hermione?
Ironychan: *has no idea*

I can say one thing for this movie, though... it seems to have cured my earwax.

Most of them have no plot and leave me wondering why they were written.

Secondly, it's very rude to pimp your stories in a review, especially if you do it without saying so much as a single damn word about the story you're reviewing! Thirdly, no, since as mentioned, you were rude, and your username screams Mary-Sue Writer.

Sharem: Now this is an interesting crossover. Inuyasha is already one of my favorite anime and I like the episodes of Cowboy Bebop that I did manage to watch. Good going so far.

An Inuyasha/Cowboy Bebop crossover?! I could probably think of less-compatible series, but I don't want to; my brain would probably melt.

Just the tale of me and somebody who pissed me off.

So a few days ago, I was wandering the vole-infested wilderness that is fanfiction.net, and stumbled across the following:

Naraku is dead, and the Shikon no Tama is near completion. But Enemies aren't the biggest problem anymore... Love is! A fic about betrayal, choices, pain, and loyalty. Inu-Kag Mir-San. OMG! Chapter 6 is up! R-R this and I will R-R one of your stories!
Inuyasha - PG-13 - English - Romance/Angst - Chapters: 6 - Words: 25304 - Reviews: 45 - Updated: 9-23-03 - Published: 6-25-03

Normally, I consider review-pimping of any sort to be a big, red 'AVOID THIS FIC AT ALL COSTS' flag, but on that particular day I decided to tempt fate. So I read the fic, found it surprisingly better than I would have expected, and left the following cheerful but honest review:

Very nice! Inuyasha and Kagome are both in character, and your prose is an enjoyable read. The one thing I'd complain about is the POV switches. Most people prefer for you to choose a point of view and stick with it... if you're writing in the third person, you can enter various characters' heads, but even then it's still better if you stay with one character for an entire scene. I hope that was helpful!

So having posted that, I sat back to wait for the response. Which fic would she review? Would it be Late? Would it be Docagast? Would she be nice and honest in return? Would she scream "OMG THIS IS LYKE SO AWESOME RITE MORE!!!eleventyone"? Would she flame my ass and report me for imaginary abuse? Ohhhh, the suspense!

Well, today I finally got my reply... and in fact, the lazy bum didn't review one of my actual stories at all. Rather, she reviewed The Meeting of Aragorn and Arwen, and here is what she said:

You really have a gift. Please keep writing, not only songs but stories. Thank you for your review. The reason I chose to include the switching POV's was to better illustrate the physical actions of a character. It gets a little odd to describe a quickly beating heart from third person, and do it well. I think it's just a better why to get to the character without overusing she and he... Plus it's tons of fun! Thanks for the advice though. Bye!

Now, I suppose I can't blame her for the piece she chose to review... it was up to her, after all. What I can blame her for is that she spent 3/4 of the review talking about her story, so this afternoon, I emailed her:

First of all, thank you for your review and for your compliments... although I'm betting that's going to be counted as a pretty lame way of getting off on the right foot, which is what I'm trying to do here. This email is not a flame... just a statement.

Nobody seems to agree with me, but I consider it very rude to discuss your own story in a review of somebody else's (I have recieved several reviews that basically consist of somebody just pimping their own story, and I hate that). If you wanted to discuss what I'd said about your story with me, you really ought to email me or contact me on AIM.

As for what you said about the POV switches, I understand the motivation behind them... but if I wanted to show something like that, I would tend to make two seperate scenes out of it. Perhaps first I would have Kagome talking to Inuyasha and tell it in the third person but through Kagome, describing her thoughts and reactions but not Inuyasha's. Then I would do a follow-up scene in which Inuyasha thinks about the conversation, and discuss how he felt about it. That would be a little less choppy and would avoid the switching from third person to first and back again.

If you want to continue this conversation, that's great... but please let's do it by email or AIM (my SN is 'Ironychan') instead of in comments. The ff.net TOS says that the comments are not to be used as a messageboard anyway.
