DVDs... DVDs... anyone want some DVDs? [May. 14th, 2008|02:20 pm]
We're doing packing and organizing and stuff in preparation for the move and I discovered we have the first season of Kyle XY on DVD and the complete first season of Angel on DVD.

The Kyle XY episodes were captured from ABC Family (possibly one episode from ABC) and burned to DVD and they have commercials and stuff on them. One episode to a disc, so ten discs.

Angel: The Complete First Season, I picked up used somewhere and never got around to watching all of it so I can't vouch for the quality. (And it's redundant to hold onto it since Lek got the complete series on DVD.)

Both or either of these are free for the taking, just comment with your e-mail so I can contact you and get your address.

First come, first served.

(Embarassingly, my main reaction to packing and organizing all of our videos and DVD is "I really wanna go check out the previously viewed DVDs for sale at Blockbuster. *facepalm* Yes, I know Blockbuster is evil, but four DVDs for $20 is just so tempting...)

Edit: Angel: The Complete First Season is taken.

Edit: Kyle XY is also taken.

I finally figured out how I feel about Power Rangers Jungle Fury [May. 13th, 2008|01:44 pm]
The fanboy in me rages at the inconsistent characterization, the reset button that's apparently hit at the start of every episode if there was character development in a previous episode and the shoddy writing/plotting.

The gayboy in me loves how cute Casey, Theo and especially RJ are.

...yeah.

Lek and I marathoned the first season of Dexter today. (We ended up skipping a few episodes when we discovered that the episodes ended up out of order on the disc, but the "Previously..." at the start of each episode made sure we didn't miss anything important.)

We were both fairly bored by it overall and found that every episode had a LOT of "dead air", with boring subplots and character interaction that we just didn't care about.

And what was up with the loving close-ups and slow motion shots of Michael C. Hall eating in most of the episodes? It got better as the season progressed, but it really stuck out and was something Lek and I were joking about even by the end of the season.

Oh, and gratuitous boobies, but never any male nudity. It's premium cable! Show a little cock once in a while!

You're channel surfing and spot an actor on an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger and think, "Hey, it's Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the dad from Supernatural."

Not, "Hey, it's that guy!" or "Hey, it's the dad from Supernatural!" But you actually know his name and what his role on Supernatural is. I've watched maybe five minutes of Supernatural and yet I know this. Fannish osmosis is an amazing thing.

Oh, TNA. How can you still be made of such fail? [May. 9th, 2008|11:44 am]
I'm not talking about what goes on on Impact. (At least not this time.) I'm talking about their merchandising efforts and how every one of them seems designed to fail from the start.

T-shirts: At the Lockdown fanfest we attended last year, they had all new t-shirts for sale. But no shirts for wrestlers who were still popular/current or active. There were no "Don't Fire Eric" or "Paparazzi Productions" shirts, which makes no sense. (A recurring theme when it comes to TNA merchandise, alas.) And on the TNA online store, you can find t-shirts for just about everyone. But if you want it in a size you can actually wear, you should probably order it fast, because TNA only does one run of a t-shirt before moving on. (I speak from experience. It took me forever to get a Team Canada t-shirt I could actually wear. And I made sure to order a Motor City Machineguns t-shirt when they became available because I wanted to have one I could, you know, wear. Never did get a Paparazzi Productions or "Don't Fire Eric" shirt. Ah, well.) And are there really that many fans clamoring for Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash t-shirts? Really?

CDs: I wanted to get Meltdown, the new CD of entrance themes, because it has Petey Williams's theme and the Motor City Machineguns' theme. So Lek and I made sure to check the CD section at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target... Pretty much every major chain we went to that had a CD section, we made sure to check. And we never found it. I eventually did some checking online and discovered that you could only get Meltdown from Best Buy's website and even then it was backordered. I may end up caving and getting it from Amazon someday. We'll see.

DVDs, toys and trading cards, oh my! )

In conclusion...
Me: Hey, TNA, I'd really like to give you some money for merchandise featuring my favorite wrestlers.
TNA: No, no, that's okay. We don't need your money. Really.
Me: Are you sure?
TNA: Definitely. Unless you want a Scott Steiner or Kevin Nash t-shirt! You loved them ten years ago, you love them today! Right? Right?

[info]elekdragon: So he's like Uwe Boll now? We can only buy his movies used?
[info]j_crew_guy: Well, not exactly. But he's made some bad movies lately and it's kind of like disciplining a puppy.

Hey Immi (and any other Eyeshield 21 fans) [May. 8th, 2008|01:55 pm]
The other night I had a dream in which Hiruma came out and declared his love for Sena.

I'm still puzzled by it, mostly because Hiruma's loves (in canon, at least) are football, blackmailing people and weapons. ...and maybe Musashi and Kurita.

I don't think I could ever picture Hiruma in a relationship with an actual person. He's just so... not relationship material.

David DeCoteau thoughts [May. 8th, 2008|11:57 am]
I'm on his official mailing list because it's the best way to keep up with his current projects, new interviews and things like that. But I also get lots and lots of messages from people (mostly guys) on the mailing list who have to tell David that each new movie is the best ever. Which... no. There's only so much homoerotic tension and guys in underwear can do for a movie.

As far as I'm concerned, David DeCoteau hasn't made a good movie in years. His good movies? The Brotherhood, Leeches! (even if it did kill off the wrong character), Speed Demon (mostly for the rituals and "Honk if you love Makealeft!") and Wolves of Wall Street (mostly for pre-creep Michael Bergin).

Since then, we've had the nonsensical mess that was The Brotherhood III, DeCoteau remaking The Brotherhood with a lesbian twist, The Brotherhood IV (it's a military school that looks like a hotel), Beastly Boyz (it may have been Rapid Heart Xtreme but we still don't know what the fuck was going on in it), Ring of Darkness (Evil boyband!) and The Brotherhood II. (The pool scene remains magical after all this time. The rest... not so much.)

Oh, and the Edgar Allan Poe movies, which we haven't seen yet, and Grizzly Rage (which premiered on Sci-Fi, which should tell you all you need to know). Maybe the Poe movies are an attempt to stretch creatively. Probably not, if the poster is anything to go by.

I'm just disappointed that no one on the mailing list is saying anything critical of his movies. It's all, "Loved this! Loved that!" One guy attempted to ask why DeCoetau never goes all the way with the homoeroticism/almost nudity but that was ignored. How can David DeCoteau ever grow as a filmmaker if all he ever hears is endless praise? And I don't want him to you know, keep making the same movies over and over again, but it almost seems like that's what he wants to do whenever possible. (Grizzly Rage was a rare attempt to make a horror movie that wasn't all about the homoeroticism. Personally, I'd like to see a gay porn version of Grizzly Rage with a different kind of killer bear on the loose, but that's just me.)

In other DeCoteau news, he's been pimping out Sean Faris's nomination for a MTV Movie Award for Best Fight in Never Back Down. (It's nice to see he's loyal to actors he's worked with and tries to keep in touch with them, if they're still in the business.)

http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2008/nominees.jhtml?categoryId=fight (Vote early, vote often.)

And if you made it through all of that, you deserve a reward. Sean Faris goodness )

Superhero Squad... the series? [May. 7th, 2008|11:04 am]
Marvel Entertainment is now developing a 26-episode animated series situating the (Superhero Squad) characters in "Super Hero City" and throwing them into "humorous adventures" with Doctor Doom, Magneto, Loki and others.

I, for one, certainly think of Doctor Doom, Magneto and Loki when I think of "humorous adventures".

(And I can't wait for the first "humorous adventure" with the Red Skull. Or The Punisher. Or Ghost Rider.)

DC totally needs to get on the ball and do an animated series based on their Super Friends toys.

Toy search update [May. 3rd, 2008|08:20 pm]
We found a Jungle Fury Bat Ranger while we were out shopping today, which was nice. Even if the battery inside of the action figure is dead. (And Lek found a cannister for coffee. The lid is clear, but Lek is planning to cover it so that it's dark.)

I discovered today that Bandai won't be releasing the Wolf Ranger toys (except for the morpher, which is on store shelves now) until the fall. Suck.

We didn't see any more Mighty Muggs (Marvel or Star Wars). I'm resisting the urge to buy the ones we want online. It was okay with the Darth Maul one, but Venom and Lando aren't worth paying too much more for. Yet.

The Indiana Jones Adventure Heroes toys? Are EVIL. They're doing a promotion where you collect six stickers (that make up a map of South America) and send them in, with a bit of money for postage and you get an exclusive Indy on a horse figure. It's a really good thing we're not that into Indiana Jones. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the toys are cute and wonderful, but they're not "Gotta have!" in the way toys from our other fandoms are.

Eh, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Team is calling my name.

Terry Richardson Vs. Jackass (or... who are Batman and Robin?) [May. 2nd, 2008|09:43 pm]
Tangles sent me a link to some coverage of Terry Richardson's photo exhibit of the Jackass guys in Harajuku.

And there's coverage of the opening here. (Possibly NSFW due to nearly naked Terry Richardson.)

I talked about the photo shoot at some point in my recapping of the Jackassworld MTV Takeover. It was awesome, but we never saw the Batman/Robin kiss from the photo shoot until now.

I can't figure out who Batman and Robin are. I'm leaning towards Bam as Robin, but am kind of stumped as to who Batman is. Any ideas?

Updates on things. [May. 2nd, 2008|02:49 pm]
-Shiloh woke me up this morning, meowing quite a bit because he'd managed to fill the litterbox with poo. And he's been acting like his normal self today, so we're encouraged by this, but keeping an eye on him. (And we picked up some Laxatone at the pet store while we were out shopping.)

-Toys! The Indiana Jones toys are starting to hit shelves and we picked up a couple of the Adventure Heroes two-packs for the Ark of the Covenant ghost and a mummy. There are also new Galactic Heroes two-packs out, with Agen Kolar, Ki Adi Mundi (that one Jedi with the huge head) and Aayla Secura. We found the Jango Fett Mighty Muggs figure at Toys R Us and when we checked out, we learned that the manager had bought the Lando Mighty Mugg. WTF? I found the Shark Ranger from Jungle Fury (still need the Bat and the Wolf) and we even grabbed wee little Mario and Luigi figures. Oh, and we were creeped out by the 12" Indiana Jones talking action figure. His mouth moves when he talks. It's wrong.

-We also spotted the Incredible Hulk Superhero Squad figures, which are okay, but nothing special. And the Iron Man and Wolverine Mighty Muggs. Again, cute but not worthy of a purchase.

-Lek is looking for a cannister for his coffee. It needs to be airtight and dark. We've found some that are metal, but usually have a (clear) glass lid. Anyone have ideas on where we can find one that meets his needs? (We found a set of seven, but we just want one.)

-I have decided to give up on trying to burn the shows I've been downloading to DVD for now. Instead I'm focusing on downloading and using a flash drive to watch them on the laptop. Not a perfect solution, but it works for now.

-Sending Petey Williams a get well card may not be creepy, but trying to find a card that's not creepy? Is more difficult than I thought. I ended up getting one with duct tape on it, as it was vaguely macho and not creepy. (There should totally be Canadian-themed get well cards.)

-Once again, we're looking for toys. The Lando Calrissian Mighty Muggs figure, the Venom Mighty Muggs figure, the aforementioned Bat and Wolf Rangers, the WWE Classic Superstars Eddie Guerrero... and TNA Wrestling trading cards. (The cards are supposed to be out in May. And well... WANT.) Any help finding these would be very much appreciated.

-Lek is doing better after his "crown lengthening" and says he's healing nicely, which is good. I start physical therapy again on Monday and may need some anti-depressants to get over the cost of the Celebrex. ($95! With insurance! Are the pills made out of gold or something?)

-Still waiting for my Video Watchdog back issues. I actually had a dream last night where they arrived and they threw in bonus issues because it had taken so long.

-This isn't an update or anything, but it's cute and I wanted to share. Anderson Cooper studies bears in their natural habitat.

Shiloh update. [May. 1st, 2008|08:56 pm]
I've never been so happy to have a cat poop where he shouldn't. (Even if he tried pooping on Lek's bed.)

We tried feeding him some canned tuna with olive oil and some cat treats that are supposed to prevent hairballs and waited and waited. Shiloh began yowling and walking around and trying to find a comfortable place to poop.

We're hoping that when he poops again, it'll be in the litterbox, where he's supposed to.

And we're still thinking about taking him in to the vet tomorrow, just in case.
