| Bah F***ing Humbug II: Electric Boogaloo |
[Dec. 27th, 2008|09:37 pm] |
The good news: my family did not have any fights over the holidays. The bad news: a fight is impending, because my mother is living in a chaotically messy house, made excuses when my sister and I tried to bring up the subject, and brushed off offers of help. NOT NOT NOT looking forward to the next skirmish. And I've identified a county agency that counts "self-neglect" as part of its mission, but I do NOT want to sic the authorities on her.
In a happier mode, here's the holiday ficlet I promised coffee_n_cocoa.
Title: Not Quite in the Blood Pairing: Harry/Neville Rating: R? Summary: Decorating for the holidays takes an unexpected turn. Recipient: coffee_n_cocoa Prompt: Decorating the tree Warning: Twilight teasing Word Count: ≈475 ( Not Quite in the Blood ) |

| Bah F***ing Humbug |
[Dec. 20th, 2008|12:01 am] |
When I'm in the car I make a point of listening to DC101, but I haven't yet heard any of the Christmas songs they've played in past years (especially "Santa Man," a play on "Iron Man"). I suppose expecting a Clear Channel station to do something that pleases me would be a little too much.
And DEAR GOD I'M BORED. I don't have any work this week. Officially I've finished my Christmas shopping, but a few things still haven't been delivered. AND I'm waiting on my check for last week. *taps feet impatiently; goes down to check the mail AGAIN*
In the hopes of giving myself something to do, the first two people who post a pairing or character and prompt get a ficlet. Note the clue given in my icon. |

| "Princess Bride" meme |
[Oct. 10th, 2008|09:14 pm] |
As seen on coffee_n_cocoa's journal:
When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. |

| If it weren't for deadlines... |
[Jul. 3rd, 2008|02:13 pm] |
...I'd never get anything done. Deadlines plus slack time at work would seem to be my most prolific work conditions. Probably the fact that I was writing an explicit scene, and that doing so probably violates the terms of the job, added some extra zip to my pen. But gosh darn it, my friends need Neville!fic!
See you all on the 5th.... |

| The Big Read Meme |
[Jun. 24th, 2008|10:05 pm] |
As prev. posted by coffee_n_cocoa and kaellite:
The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-) ( Read more... ) Fifty out of 100, not counting the three I tried but couldn't finish.
Question: Who compiled this list, and what were their criteria? |

| Need pr0n. |
[Jun. 11th, 2008|08:16 pm] |
1. Bloody buggering hell. As I'm leaving work this evening I manage to smack my car into a pillar. I'm all right; the car looks like crap; but since I was already planning to replace the car at the end of the year I can probably make do with just having the tire repaired. Nothing that money can't fix, and I've got the money. Difficulty: I'm working in Reston, and while there is public transportation it will probably take three times as long as the drive. And I am NOT looking forward to waiting for buses in this weather. Even if the brutally hot weather of earlier this week has subsided.
2. Regarding the 800-word prequel revealed early this morning: I am now convinced the real reason JKR shies away from Sirius/Remus is because she (possibly subconsciously) ships Sirius/James. Too busy being a cool rebel to have a girlfriend indeed.
3. Seen on a DC license plate this evening: HRYPOTR
4. Therefore, dear friendslist, I ask you if you know of any lesser-known caches of Harry Potter fic (preferably featuring Neville). I know of The Quidditch Pitch, and I occasionally look at fanfiction.net and adultfanfiction.net, for LuLz if nothing else. Do you know of any more obscure archives? |

| Trade you a kitten for a bunny...? |
[May. 17th, 2008|08:45 pm] |
Okay, I am not literally giving away my sister's kitten (but don't think I'm not tempted). Little Rorschach and Jen's other cat, Mandu, are staying with me while Jen is in England. The two cats don't get along, so Rorschach spends his time either getting into my things, or trying to climb all over the keyboard while I'm at the computer. Good thing he's so cute, or this would have worn thin a lot earlier.
Regarding bunnies: Week after next I go back to OCFO. Assuming this job is like the other times I've been there, I will sit around for hours at a time, without Internet access. Last time I was there I wrote "His Darkest Secret" and "The Lion's Mission." I've got some bunnies, but does anyone have any spare bunnies they want to contribute? The usual provisions apply (Potterverse only; I'm most comfortable writing Neville). |

[Mar. 22nd, 2008|12:18 am] |
(It's after midnight where I am right now.)
How bored was I at my most recent assignment? So bored that I wrote Neville/Draco. (I also finished a longer Neville-centric genfic, but I probably won't be able to type it up before the weekend.
Title: His Darkest Secret Rating: R Pairing: Neville/Draco Summary: Neville discovers Draco's secret. And doesn't reject him for it. Word Count: 683 Disclaimer: I am neither J.K. Rowling (creator of the Potterverse) nor any of the corporations to which she has licenced her creation.

| Too...something...not to share |
[Feb. 22nd, 2008|03:37 pm] |
[Note: the following humor depends to some degree on American slang.]
The document I am proofing right now includes an illustration of a "Butt-Type Extractor for Crude Fat Determination." For all I know this may be as standard, accepted, and nonhumorous as the species "sperm whale" or certain pronunciations of "Norfolk." But butts, crudity, and fat? That just gets me at the lowest possible common denominator. |

I don't take Hallmark-driven holidays seriously. But these Valentines are the greatest ever.

Has anyone written an "Orgy of the Phoenix" fic? The prophecy told Dumbledore to anticipate a very special birth; I could see that old puppetmaster taking steps to insure that child is conceived.
And the Silver Spring job has been resolved--they made me an insultingly low offer, so I'm washing my hands of them. |

| How much do I hate my current temp assignment? |
[Feb. 12th, 2008|08:23 pm] |
I hate gin, yet first thing after coming home this evening I made and drank a martini. (The current temp assignment is not the Reston or Silver Spring jobs I wibbled about in my last post.) I only took the assignment on the assumption that loathsome work is better than no work at all, but now I'm thinking....
However, I do have a little good news: I finished and submitted my Springsmut fic! |

| Wanted: Attitude Readjustment. |
[Feb. 9th, 2008|11:53 pm] |
And I'm trying to adjust my attitude with a bottle of sparkling wine, while I try to write my Springsmut fic. (I know what happens in it, and it's not long or complicated, and I've just gotten to the smut scene, but it just won't flow.)
So here's a ramble through issues in my life, for you to read and comment on (or not) as you see fit. Note that these may include possible spoilers for the movie In Bruges.

Okay, okay, the official Christmas season has passed (unless anyone here is on the old Russian calendar?), but I finally got it together to post this set of ficlets.
Disclaimer: I am neither J.K. Rowling (creatrix of the Potterverse) nor any of the corporations to which she has licensed her creation. Characters: Pansy, Neville (G) A/N: John Parkinson (1567-1650), author of Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris and Theatrum Botanicum, almost certainly was the inspiration for Rowling's use of the name.
