10:09pm:
Went to Circuit City today, since Bridget needed a camera and I've been on the lookout for an external hard drive since my old one's power source is failing.
I got an ADORABLE Toshiba 320GB one that HAS no separate power source! So cute! Wasn't a SPECTACULAR deal, but neither was it a ripoff, and it's ADORABLE. It's smaller than my wallet and did I mention I don't have to worry about a stupid extra power source?
So darned cute! Eee, techjoy!
(plus, I was able to dump mostly all my hard drive contents to it without any issues, so now I can load more games onto here! Hurrah, I am ready for Sims3!)
1:11am: On the whole, an excellent long weekend.
So, the last few days.
Friday through Sunday was Boskone. As usual, had an excellent time, pretty darned relaxing. Friday, I had adventures in Boston signage. I mean, really, how was I supposed to know that a sign reading in large flashing letters "PARKING" actually meant "MASSPIKE" instead? The room was Jon, Mali, me, and Conor, and then Anne stayed on Saturday. Worked out pretty well. Saturday I managed to get to a couple of panels, including the underwear one. I really enjoyed myself at that one, mostly because of the semi-serious discussion it was about how underwear can be used to set up a culture within writing. Also found out about a place in NYC that fits its bras with different sizes in each cup. AWESOME. Totally have to find and try it out. Then in the evening, Mali and I met up with Lena, Laury, Linda, and Anne for dinner. Went to John Harvard's and had nomnomnom buffalo chicken mac'n'cheese. Excellent times were had, and we've added more people to the plotting for Disney World. Sunday, went to another panel, this time on Twilight, which was fun. Again, what I love about Boskone is the discussion, rather than Arisia panels which can be more lecturey or shouty.
Although I tell you, a nice surprise to me was the number of Arisians that were there this year. I know some of you were there for Anticipation, but still. It was lovely to see you guys and isn't it nice to RELAX at a con? And while I know the hotel for Boskone is nice, the transportation is MURDER. Do you know how much the hotel parking is?! TERRIBLE. Train's okay, I guess, but again. As someone who's walked it during freezing weather as opposed to the fairly mild weather we had this weekend, hauling your luggage from the T stop over makes you kinda feel like death. I would rather stay at the Hyatt than move to the Westin. I'm just sayin'. Even though it's cramped.
Monday, Beth, Mali, Bridget and I headed up to Salem to see Lena. Had lunch and saw Coraline in 3D, which was TOTALLY AWESOME. I really liked how close it was to the book, I loved how the 3D wasn't as much about sight gags as it was about heightening the atmosphere of the whole, and it was beautiful to boot.

AMAZING.I heart my President.
3:44pm:
Boskone is next weekend. ....man, it'll be nice to RELAX at an event. No sewing, no 24 con suite, just a nice, breathable con that I've been going to since forever practically. Four people in the room currently, but we will totally take more if you've interest in coming along and at least one of us knows you. Anne, any interest? Lena? James, con full of writers, essentially. If you're interested, even if only for one night, let me know.

Note to self:
When making beef stew, brandy is a fine replacement for red wine in a pinch.
Moar garlic cloves maybe next time.
Nomnomnom.

12:05am: So that's coming along.
Okay, got the car back. It goes back next week for the taillight, mirrors, and possibly the door window, though I think I'm going to wait on that as that was theoretically fixed last year by my old mechanic with NEW parts, and Brian says no way in heck it was. I've still got the paperwork on it, so I'm going to go see my old guy about that.
Exhaust, brakes, muffler, all done. A wee bit less than a grand in the end, but still....fnah.
And my Dr. Horrible DVD has STILL not arrived. But my bodice is grommetted, and Bridget and I are going to construct farthingales in the morning and I'll go get floss to cover the shiny silver grommets after she goes to work and hopefully the DVD will be here so I can watch COMMENTARY: THE MUSICAL.

At T-minus two days to Arisia, I think..I think I'm set. This weirds me the freak out. I mean, really:
Thursday we take food delivery and sort it. Friday I pick up the oven and then we do the soda run. Friday afternoon we open. Friday-Monday afternoon we RUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNsleepRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNeatRUNRUNRUNRUNRUNshowerRUNRUNRUNRUNclosefalldown. Monday afternoon clean up go home. Tuesday morning probably finish clean up? I assume unless we manage to get it all done Monday night which would be nice. We'll see.
But seriously. The oven rental reservation is made and confirmed. The food is bought. The shopping list is short. Supplies are in order. I've even got not one but TWO costume options.
I AM WONDERING WHEN THE OTHER CON SHOE WILL DROP IS ALL.

10:17pm: Where I Was
Okay, now that I've slept and gone to work and come home.
When Barack Obama, my president-elect was confirmed, I was in my living room in Shrewsbury, MA, with two of my friends at my side and another one online via GTalk. We had Faux Finale Fabulous hot chocolate to get through the night.
And the night was over so soon! We were in bed before two in the morning! EST, even!
Work was interesting. It was a mix of joy, disbelief, and...well, bitterness. I had someone I've worked with for awhile tell me she wished CONDI had been the first black president.
CONDI.
Now I'm sorry, but Condi Rice is likely DONE as a political entity now. DONE. And that, more than anything else says the complete disconnect.
PS-THIS is what a mandate looks like: Obama (D) - 349 McCain (R) - 162
Not this:
Bush(R) - 286 Kerry(D) - 252
And sure as hell not this:
Bush(R) - 271 Gore(D) - 266
12:11am: Why I am THRILLED about this.
Because we have someone who doesn't just SAY he's a uniter. He actually IS one.
Because this is not a nation for any one group of people or against any one group of people. This is a nation of the people.
Because I believe that this man will not lie continously to us.
Because he's going to work his ass off, despite having one of the worst messes to come back from.
Because he's an adult, and will behave like an adult.
Welcome to the new FDR, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the new Camelot. Welcome to Obama.
(oh my lord, this is an amazing speech!)

3:45pm: I get to complain for the next four years!
Voted! I hit it at just the right time. There was a crowd leaving and a crowd going in. I think it took longer to get out of the parking lot than it did to vote. There were greyhounds sitting outside the polling place, and I think it's funny that they clearly didn't like the guy with the 'NObama' sign. He moved to the other side by the time I got out, and the greyhounds had settled from when I went in.

1:20am:
Not dead! Still just...incredibly busy.
Thanks all for the lovely birthday weekend and messages and general grandness. High Holidays went well-saw folks at temple that I haven't seen in awhile, so that was nice.
For my birthday, by the way, a group of us went to Vinny T's in silly hats. I love that everyone DID.
The store closing continues. It's a little scary how empty it's gotten. But I'm getting four bookshelves from it, so that's not helping the emptying issue, but it IS helping the furniture at the apt.
Have a CueCat for my LibraryThing now, which helps load books in. So one entire bookshelf is full and scanned now, and half of another one. So now I can get more books out of the attic at my parents. Rock!
Anywho, off to bed. More overtime for the morning! Yay.

11:19pm:
Had day off. Had good day off. Got the electric bill sorted, got info on cable hookup and non-stolen internet, lolled around a bit, Simmed, finally signed up and USED my LibraryThing account, now need more space in account. Also, confused holy hell out of it, because so far I've just added the Box O'Romance Novels and the SF books I can't live without. And a few children's books. It's trying to find another library like mine, and it's just CONFUSED. Although tryslora, it might try to find me you, if your reading challenge notes are anything to go by. I do wish it'd let me note when I have two copies of a book, like how I've somehow got two of "The Nerd who Loved Me" and yet am missing all of my copies of "Outlander" at the moment. I know Julie's got one (read it! you will love it!) and I'm assuming the other two are at my parents' house still. Like most of my books. ....this is gonna be FUN.

....the cat likes Good Eats. I mean, we were watching Project Runway reruns, and she was sleeping, but I switched to Good Eats, and she perked up, climbed to the top of the chair, and is now attentively watching Alton make tres leche cake. F'serious.

9:48pm: And it all takes place in a snow globe.
Everytime I watch Soon Yi on M.A.S.H., I get just a bit thrown.
After all, why is Keiko O'Brien marrying KLINGER?
Barring that, does that make Klinger possibly one of Keiko's ancestors?
Ponder THAT, sports fans.
7:23pm: Linar, reporting for duty!
http://www.startrekonline.com/Jon! Sarah! Who's with me on this, dudes?! They appear to be ignoring Enterprise as canon, but including Nemesis, which, whatevs. They're acknowledging DS9! WOOOOO.

11:57pm: Home again.
Back from Pennsic.
Still somewhat dead.
Had lovely, lovely, thrilling, relaxing, exciting, exhausting, informative, brain-melting time, and I can't wait to do it again next year.
It's a little weird returning though-I spent the last week in the Modern Middle Ages, and I come home to the internet and TV and fridges and tomorrow I go back to work.
A mammoth entry will follow once I've uploaded my pictures and so on.

We've been working towards this since last year. It's our first time going, and we're PYSCHED. And tired. And our fingers are pricked from pins and needles and mine are green from dying some silk a better color.
So, yes. AUGH.
