Ok, I think of this as a quiz, though it gets called a meme. Personally that's just one of those words that bugs me, I think it gets over used/not used right, and it also sounds like a really bad Engrish word. [/rant]
Gacked from dejla

Since I work in commission sales, I guess this means I'm suited for my job?

Didn't realize my dressage icon would be such a hit! Seems to be some riders on JF--who knew?
A bit about my horsey self--I have been riding sport horses for 20+ years. I did some jumping when I was younger but for the past few years have concentrated on dressage. I got to go to Indoor Brabant in Holland in '92 and saw Carol Lavell and Gifted ride in a World Cup qualifier. I was also fortunate enough to ride with Judy Kelly for about two years. I still technically own my horse but she is on 'permanent loan' as a lesson horse to a friend of mine--it has gotten so expensive to board I can't afford to keep her properly any more. But as soon as I get some other RL things taken care of, I am going to start taking riding lessons again.

Does anyone else hate that new version of "Boys of Summer" by the Ataris (I think?). I just cringe every time I hear it.
The original song was sad and happy all at the same time--it always evoked memories of a love lost and remembered...but this new one--Aaargh! It sounds like a garage band practicing for the upcoming Battle of the Bands or something (remember those?). They've lost all the feeling that was in the song, it's just noise now.

OK, this one got me thinking. Today was a typical summer day for where I live--about 90o with 80% or so humidity. I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt and still pretty warm.
So as I'm going around town doing errands, I see some teenagers walking down the street--Goths?I guess--they had the huge-legged black jeans, black spiky hair, and black sweatshirts. In this weather. I don't get it, are they so stoned they can't tell how hot it is, or are they afraid wearing something 'appropriate' to the weather might hurt their image? And no, it's not just cause I'm an old fuddy-duddy---back in the day, it was always shorts and t-shirts for all of us as soon as school ended. Our parents had to force us into wearing anything else until school started again.

Saw an ad in a magazine for those Mac IPod walkman thingies--they're now compatible with Windows. I am coveting one of these things, would be so much easier to take to the gym instead of buying new tapes when I get sick of the old ones. (An hour of cardio goes faster when you have some music to listen to!)
Only problem is, they start at $299. Maybe if I have real good sales this winter. . .

12:38 am - Like I really needed another one

I stopped at TSC today to get spring vaccinations for my horse, and what should I see but a Breyer model of Pay 'n Go (dressage Appaloosa) on clearance, half off! So of course I ended up trotting out with him tucked under my arm, another piece to add to the shrine to horses which is my apartment.
And I didn't kill my landlord's begonias, thank God! Told him I'd water the garden while he was out of town, promptly forgot, and came out yesterday morning to find that one of the hanging baskets was, well, hanging. I grabbed the hose and soaked everything, when I got home from work they had revived. ::wipes brow::

10:56 pm - Some thoughts on Fandom Wank
|
The last few days have been making me think about why I get so much entertainment out of f_w. Partly it's because I'm kind of a snarkily humorous person in real life, as are many of my friends. I was describing this community to a semi-mundane friend at work, and she said, "Man, that's just like us in the stockroom!"
Which brings me to my observation. In RL or f_w, you'll never see me cracking on someone for what they are--it's the things they do that make me laugh. In my book, if you act cool and have a good sense of humor, you're cool, and if you act like an ass, you're an ass, and I'm going to have a laugh or two in your name. To compare to professional comedians, I find Jay Leno to be Wonder-bread boring, but David Letterman cracks me up, and I would happily go out to dinner with him. (Yeah, right, like I'd ever have the chance.)
So if you're going to get up on that high horse, you'd better be able to make it piaffe, shoulder-in, and do flying changes, or otherwise you're going to be fair game. I respect people who can argue their point and say what they think, on the net as well as in real life.
On the other hand, people who resort to calling me obscene names, making cracks about my family which are totally irrelevant and which they would have no way of knowing about anyway, are nothing but trolls, and the most they're going to get from me is an "Okay!". (Of course, the sad thing about folks like that is when you get bored and quit answering them, they think they've won the argument. *Sigh* Come back when you can hold up an argument/discussion...then I'll pay attention to you.)
So yeah, I'm sure there are some people on JF with an agenda, it's a big group of people after all. But the wankery I find so entertaining is laughing at someone who takes theirself way too seriously. (Or refuses to admit they've made a mistake. That's another big one.)

12:35 am - Anime Wank!
|
Gloria is the creator of an unmodded Hawaii 5-0 egroup. However, when anyone tries to discuss H50, she turns the conversation to herself and creates sockpuppets to agree with her. At one point, out of the blue, she starts an anti-anime rant, backed up a few messages later by one of her sockpuppets.
Actually, the woman is one giant walking wank.

|
Wow, the weather has finally gotten nice! Took all the plastic off my windows, and was totally pissed when the tape snapped a big chunk of paint off the window casing, especially since my landlord just painted it before I moved in last summer. Argh!
And in a convergance of FW and RL, "I keel you biatch" is now the standard insult in the stockroom at work!
