Wow!
Didn't realize my dressage icon would be such a hit! Seems to be some riders on JF--who knew?

A bit about my horsey self--I have been riding sport horses for 20+ years. I did some jumping when I was younger but for the past few years have concentrated on dressage. I got to go to Indoor Brabant in Holland in '92 and saw Carol Lavell and Gifted ride in a World Cup qualifier. I was also fortunate enough to ride with Judy Kelly for about two years. I still technically own my horse but she is on 'permanent loan' as a lesson horse to a friend of mine--it has gotten so expensive to board I can't afford to keep her properly any more. But as soon as I get some other RL things taken care of, I am going to start taking riding lessons again.

I followed you over from Fandom_Wank - I was so surprised to see another rider! And a dressage rider to boot.

I'm an eventer, and I've been riding for almost 20 years now, though with graduating from college and the retirement of my horse due to navicular issues, I am taking a bit of a break now - a 30 mile commute does not leave me much time to ride.

Anyways, just thought I'd drop you a comment. I was just so surprised to see a dressage icon! Have a great night,

Laurie

Hi and welcome! Eventing: very cool! But I never had the guts to ride CC myself.

I can relate on the time and expenses--the last place I had my horse was 40 miles away, which made it real hard to get any consistent work done. She is coming 24 but very sound and healthy, so she now teaches little girls to jump beginner hunt courses. ;-)

Feel free to drop by here anytime!

I followed you from fandom wank too- I only use journalfen to comment on FandomWank and dl_anon, but my lj username is paulaberr.

Sigh- I've lusted after true sporthorses, but I've only ever owned and ridden stock horses, and some Arabs.

I sold my mare last year due to some -ah- safety issues (my mum threw a fit after I came home bloodied one time too many) but my college has a polo team, so I'll be trying my hand at that this year!

My 'sport horse' is a fat white Spanish-type Appaloosa....they don't all have to speak German! ;-D

Polo is something you don't see much around here but it does look v. exciting.

Yeah, hey! I just recently got back in the saddle, myself- used to be a foxhunter. XD Awesome to know there are more horsey lovers hanging around!

Foxhunting! I collect hunting prints, that's the main decor in my living room. Have you ever read "Riding Shotgun" or "Outfoxed" by Rita Mae Brown. They are two great books, both set in Virginia hunt country.

I also trailed in from fandom wank. I love the Anky icon - I got to meet her about 5 years ago at the National Horse Show, back when it was still at MSG in NYC. I have a signed program at home in a box somewhere... I'm at school, riding Intercollegiate right now, so that's hunt seat and western, but at home (NYC area) I do hunter paces and dressage (been riding 12 years). Eventually (as in when I finish college and grad school and begin paying off loans) I want to get into true cross country. My horse is a 17 year old Percheron-cross (registered as a Canadian Warmblood) who used to be a huge, super-sucessful (or so I'm told...) Grand Prix jumper in Canada - back in his glory years. Of course, you think your horse being 40 miles away is bad...try 3,000 (he's at home and I'm at school)! Anyway, it's always nice to find other horsey-types around.

Hi! Percheron crosses--teh awesome! The farm where my mare now is has a few Percherons and some crossbreds--one of their Thorcheron mares was Champion Open Jumper at the World Percheron Congress last year.

My horse is just outside our city limits now, so I can go and see her all the time.

What is your horse's name and what has he won? Some of my friends might have heard of him, they go up to the Royal every year.
