    Amaury looked over everything on their private balcony for the hundredth time. It was perfect of course. Perfect because he had taken care, and his instructions to the crew had been very clear from the beginning on what he wanted. He smiles, feeling nervous and excited as he waits on Jewel to get back from her day at the spa—a perfect excuse to get everything set up in a way she wouldn't know. Perhaps it's cliché and even a little cheesy, but Amaury doesn't care—to him it's perfect, and he hopes it will be to Jewell too. There's a romantic little candlelit table set for two with a light meal, candles and flowers everywhere on the little balcony; soft, slow romantic jazz adds to the ambiance. They'll get to watch the sunset over the water (hopefully) and he pats his pocket again almost reflexively where the little box is.

    Jewel lets Amaury lead her into the casino, the lights and sounds washing over her. She's been to Vegas before, of course, but not with Amaury and certainly not with the knowledge that she was going to leave one man's side to go upstairs and have sex with another man before reuniting with her boyfriend. It's enough to make her head spin and she leans into his side a bit closer as she looks for the elevator. "Looks like the ones on that side go to the top, private floor. I know we need a card key from the desk to access it. Gray said his boyfriend only ever stays up there."

    Jewel curls up in the living room, one of Amaury's sweatshirts dwarfing her body as she settles in with her hot chocolate and a frown at the gray, chilly weather that is plaguing Los Angeles at the moment. It's still early morning and the marine layer near Amaury's place is making her a bit grumpy. She knows Amaury is around somewhere and loves that they are comfortable enough to just be in each other's homes and space even if they are not interacting. It has her thinking about them, about their lives and where they are heading.

    Jewel smiles as she rocks on the porch swing, all bundled up warm in her favorite sweatshirt and with Amaury at her side. "So, you met Mom and she loves you. Now, all you have to do is meet Dad over dinner." Their day couldn't have been more perfect; an easy flight from LA with a warm welcome by Barbara and a restful hour on the swing. She is so glad that they are taking these next steps, that it has come time to meet family and make a commitment.

    "All right, Mama. I promise that I will talk to him." Jewel tilts her head, a soft smile on her face as she cradles her cell phone against her left ear. "I know Vancouver's not far...and yes, we've been together for over a year. It's not like that...I promise we're not hiding." She pauses, trying to figure out how to say it best. "The things is, Mama..." another breath. "I think he is the one and I need to take my time, to feel it out. I don't want to step wrong and lose it all." After listening to her mother's assurances, Jewel chuckles and hums her agreement again before clicking the phone shut and tossing it on the side counter.

    Amaury had left Jewel sleeping in his house when he'd left for Mass that morning.     Amaury is glad to be back in LA. He loves his family dearly, he really does. And he misses them greatly, but distance really does make the heart grow fonder. He's tired of being asked when he'll get married and give his mama grandbabies, especially since he knows she's not happy that he's involved with a non-Catholic, non-Puerto Rican girl. Mama gave him hell about not bringing her home, even as they both knew she'd have been pissed as blazes if he had brought her home for family Christmas this year.

    Jewel smiles as she strolls through the serenity of the Japanese Garden. Though it has been used for Charlie's Angels she can still appreciate the symmetry and the aesthetics she'd learned from working on Firefly. Her parasol, gifted to her by Joss after the series ended, twirls over head. She stops and scans the edge of the river. Lifting her camera to her eye, Jewel clicks off several shots, cataloguing the vibrant colors of the fish and grass.

    Summer's not allowed to think of this as a date. Not after the million and one conversations she and Jewel have had about men. The last time that happened had almost been enough for Summer to swear off girls who weren't at least bi. So she's waiting for Jewel to have a lovely afternoon of girl talk and maybe shopping.
