There are reasons I love the Super Furry Animals

From an interview with their guitaris Bunf at BBC Mini-Site:

How did you feel when Phantom Power was leaked online?

Fine. It was great. It was a relief that people actually wanted to hear it. We weren't worried about it harming sales at all. That's what you want to hear, when people are talking about it before it comes out. It probably made more press than our Sony machine did at the start of it. The funniest thing I heard was Madonna trying to get round the pirates, and the geeks got her back. It was class - just don't mess with them!

Sony are said to be releasing Golden Retriever as a paid-for download.

Actually we haven't agreed to that yet. They might think it is. You have a choice of paying for it and having a decent rate to download, or you take a potshot. Our opinion is that people are going to go somewhere else anyway. And that's what I'd do!</b>

I suddenly feel a whole lot less guilty about downloading my copy when it was first leaked. Viva la Furries! (and they fucking ROCKED live!)

Phantom Power Review
06:37pm 04/08/2003

mood: Goofy
music: Breeders: Last Splash
I thought I would try something new, review a CD. So hey, here is my eleven cents on this disc.

Album: Phantom Power
Artist: Super Furry Animals
Release Date: July 21/22 2003
Label: XL/Beggars

I've liked the Furries ever since by boyfriend turned me onto them a year and a half ago or so. They took some getting used to at first, but after a few listens you see *why* they kick so much ass. Their music defies easy classification, it runs the gamut from folksy surf pop to hard core techno, with all points in between. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

I started out by buying the Furries' last musical contribution, Rings Around The World (2001, Epic) before being sent the vast majority of Furries' previous albums. They all kicked some serious ass. So I was really excited when I read that a new album was going to be released in the near future. I aquired the album through my usual source about three months prior to it's official release. And have not stopped listening to it since. Thankfully I now have my own legit copy*g*.

You can vividly hear how they were influenced by the Beach Boy's brand of surf pop with their fantastic harmonies and compositions. One good example is on one of my two favorite tracks, Piccolo Snare is wonderfully complex and layered. Just when you think you have heard it all, you hear something new. Plus it is long song and you can just absorb yourself in their world.

On my other favorite track, Slow Life, they go blissfully techno. Slow life is a monster of a song, starting out with syncopated techno beats and a carnival-like feel to the percussion. It flows from techno to rock easily and it also smoothly mixes the two with a good shot of strings for good measure. It also gets nice and trippy at points. The perfect end to a nearly perfect album.

I haven't seen the DVD yet(the whole money thang), but from what I've seen it will be damned good. A big reason to get the DVD: it was mixed in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound.

My prediction is that this will be one of the top albums this year, and with damn good reason. Personally it's my co-fav album along with Mwng and Outspaced(Six in and they haven't done a stinker yet). I give it 10/10.

Best way to listen: Sitting in a comfortable chair with a good pair of headphones on.

LP Discography:
Fuzzy Logic, 1996 (Creation)
Radiator, 1997(Creation)
Outspaced, 1998(Creation)
Guerilla, 1999(Creation)
Mwng, 2000(Placid Casual)
Rings Around the World, 2001(Epic)
Phantom Power, 2003(Beggars/XL)

More stuff can be found at:
Super Furry Animals Official Site
Their Phantom Power site
Great fan site that has far more info on their Discography than I could put up here.

To my high school's 5th year reunion! I'm going to go, just to see how many people are 1) married, 2) pregnant and/or with children, 3) those with children if they are married are single still...

In other news, on the prowl for a new job. I love my job, but it doesn't pay enough. The perils of working in supported living. Also the person I take care of(she's developementally disabled and can't walk so we use a standing lift...more on that in a minute) got into one of her moods on Wed w/a coworker. Coworker thought she was just punching the wall, it turns out she was punching the thermostat. And broke it, so we had no ac over the last few days. It was hell. Especially since she just moved and this place has normal carpeting in it, which wouldn't be bad except that 1) person I take care of isn't the lightest soul on the planet and 2) the only way to move the lift semi-easily is by pulling it. Here's to hoping we get some rigid plastic mats soon for her room.

Not much else...other than wishing I were still in Scotland:).

And the wheels of delusion are still up and running with the folk at DLR.

On a prettier and shinier note. Damn you Munchie for getting me 1) hooked on Billy Boyd, 2) Orlando Bloom and 3) PotC. Damn you. DAMN YOU. Need my own computer again so I can properly drown in my own drool;).

Off to work for this fan. Wheeeee.

Got home a week ago Wed but haven't gotten off my ass to post yet*grin*. When I get my shit in gear I'll do a longer write up of my trip. Ie, it says more than "I had a great time. Now when can I go back?"

But for now I have pictures taken by Healey on his digital camera of T in the Park and of Scotland. I'll have more pics up when I get my film developed and them scanned in.(the blonde chick in the pictures is me and the guy is Healey...)

Okay, going to go back to being alternately amused and disgusted by the folk over at DLR.

Hello everyone. I believe this is the first international blog post done yet. Go me. Anyway, I'm in Scotland right now.

And boy is it ever nice! The flight over was okay, except for a four hour layover in Newark. Which rather sucked. And my bag was searched, as was evidenced by my camera strap being tucked in when I opened my bag yesterday and it wasn't when I packed it, and my deoderant had holes in it...

Got in at 8A GMT(2A for everyone back home) into Glasgow and was picked up at the airport by Healey. I have now decided that whoever designed the road system around here was seriously on crack or something. Made me glad I wasn't driving!(especially since I kept feeling like driving on the right side of the road was a good idea...)

Didn't do much of anything yesterday outside of sitting outside in the ridiculously nice weather(sunny and warm all day) and having a few pints. Will probably do more today and actually take out my camera to take pictures of shit. And will drink more good beer. And see The Cosmic Rough Riders tonight.

My hostel is nice, got a damn nice room! There is a *perfect* view of the castle from my window! Do hope to get a different bunk tonight though, the one I was in was too low to sit up in! And surprised Munchie by calling her last night. I did say I would call ya Munchie:).

Er, I can't think of anything else to say right now. So I'm outta here. Mmmm...breakfast soon. Huuuuunnnngggrrryyy....

Went and saw the Buzzcocks at the UW Memorial Union last night. Front fucking row! The good thing: awesome view of the band. Bad thing: Everyone in the back pushing forward. I have the bruises to prove it. But still, it was worth it! Got to sit on the stage during What Do I Get courtesty of a kind fellow concert goer who noticed that I was getting crushed. Kallisti had a good time:).

6 days until I leave for Europe!! And I'm gonna go see TTT in the cheap seats at 4 today:).

She not only made me 1) get into LOTRiPS but 2) write this:

TheHappyCynic235: Treebeard thought longingly of the missing Ent-wives. They had been gone so long, they were never going to come back. He looked over at his fellow Ent, and he shouldn't, but...he had no willpower left anymore.
TheHappyCynic235: Years of sexual deprivation had caused him to become weak. He walked over to the Ent and leaned down. The Ent didn't pull back, Treebeard took that as a good sign and kissed the other Ent.
TheHappyCynic235: Treebeard knew that releasing his pollen was pointless. But it felt so good. The other Ent obviously thought so as well, as his pollen was nearly ready to explode as well. Treebeard gave in and released his pollen, it mixed with the other Ent's pollen. They staggered backwards apart from one another.
TheHappyCynic235: Treebeard held his head high, he was pleased to see the other Ent do the same. They turned from each other and walked away.
TheHappyCynic235: The End

Soo...got an extra mattress and box spring from my parents'. So now I'm sleeping on two mattresses and a box spring, which is really interesting feeling. And!! 8 days until I leave for Scotland! Lets hope that my luck stays better than yesterday's when I got in an accident(we were all fine) and other shit happened. Ah well, 8 days!

I'm going off now to hang my head in shame at writing Ent slash and reading RPS. And sleep.

music: Electric Six: I Invented the Night
Went and saw Electric Six, Brainerd, and the Killgores at Annex. Brainerd...they sucked mightily. Killgores were good...but not as good as Electric Six. I dragged my roommate along, he thought they were good, but rather scary*giggles*.

Electrix Six was *damn* good! We had an excellent spot, we were in the front row and as I danced around, my foot kept hitting the stage. Um, yeah, so I also got myself a t-shirt(the white w/black rings one) and two CDs as well, Electric Six's "Fire" album and the Danger! High Voltage E.P.

And stole the setlist from onstage(after they were done of course). So here is the setlist(some may have been changed, my memory isn't the greatest):

Rockshow
Naked Pictures
Electric Demons
Remote Control Me
Improper Dancing
Synthesizer
She's White
Gay Bar
I'm the Bomb
Don't be Afraid of Robot
I Invented the Night
Danger! High Voltage(and high voltage it was, lead singer kept doing excersizes on stage...)
Dance Commander
Nuclear War(on dance floor)
Vengenance&Fashion

And an encore that, according to my roommate, had a cover of a song that had the lyrics "Radio googoo radio caca".

So that was my evening, and all the tickets cost were eight bucks each! Ripped the CDs and am going to put them into rotation soon*vvbeg*.

M: I'll give you a more in-depth account when you get back:).

I think this is a warning to 1) not have two White Russians, 2) read the Inappropriate Elf Challenge fics and 3) consume Dr Pepper while writing.

TheHappyCynic235: Clark Kent rolled over in bed, but it wasn't his bed. It felt strangely like...grass? Why was he sleeping on grass? He opened his eyes. And had to stifle a scream of horror. He was no longer in Smallville
TheHappyCynic235: Nor was he in Metropolis or any other city on this planet.
Munchkinot: *giggles*
TheHappyCynic235: He was in Lord of the Rings and three cheery hobbit faces looked down at him...weren't there four hobbits? Clark tried to remember the names of the four hobbits. He thought he could pick out Sam, Frodo and Merry. But where was Pippin?
TheHappyCynic235: A warm mouth on his dick told him where.

And with that I think it's time for this peep to not write any more tonight.

22 days!!

Got my copy of HLOTS s1&2 DVD Box Set on Wed! Lovely lovely lovely! Even if the box did mispell Yaphet Kotto and Jon Polito's names. Ah well.

Also, my parents are going to lend me their Olympus 35mm camera! Don't know which model it is, other than it is most likely older than I am and it takes good pics.

25 days until I leave!

Okay, going to go see The Matrix Reloaded now. (On the UltraScreen, largest screen in the midwest*drools*)

Goddamned ocean(and half a continent), but all the posts I make from his machine are dated a month ahead of time. I appologize for this, will get it fixed right quick.

Nutso cat and VODKA!

mood: touched
music: We'll Meet Again: Johnny Cash
The cat where I live, Sadie (he's a really really sweet cat, despite having Goa'uld eyes in the pic), is acting nutso. He was just attacking the recliner...smile and nod. (ps: browse the rest of the site please, it be my roommate's:) And you can see that I've been in Hustler*giggles*)

I love vodka, it's my fav hard alcohol(with rum being a distant second, used to like rum better, but you can't drink rum on the rocks, but you *can* drink vodka on the rocks, I do, one of my fav drinks. I find it highly amusing that I can drink vodka mixed drinks that my roommate won't touch. Everyone else can smell/taste the vodka but me*cackles*). I've decided to let myself have one luxery while saving for Scotland/England/Amsterdam, every two weeks I'm letting myself buy an expensive bottle of vodka. This week it was Armadale, pretty good, haven't tried drinking it straight yet. Bought it because it is distilled in Scotland. Last week it was vanilla Stoli(for the sole purpose of mixing it with cherry coke and getting cherry vanilla coke flavor with alcohol. Week before that it was Belvedere, a vodka I first tried a couple years ago because it was of Polish origin*vbeg*, probably my favorite vodka overall, you can drink it on the rocks easily. Mmm....alcohol.

Past that I don't have much to say, other than I'm nicely buzzing. Oh, and 53 days 'til Scotland!(not that I'm obsessed or anything, farthest thing from it in my mind)

Oooh yeah, the original reason for this post, GIP! I really need to figure out how to install fonts into Windoze XP so I can use them in Photoshop on my roommate's computer. Because frankly, his selection of fonts SUCKS ASS. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Mmmm....RayK and Fraser...
