Except for right now, when all the channels are full.

I was listening to KFI talk radio today and Ken Gallacher was talking about this trend of people who are shutting off the internet because they're tired of dealing with spam and spyware and viruses and the like. He was comparing it to the 80's and 90's when a lot of parents were getting rid of tv in their households.

My dad nixed the TV when I was about five or six (so… 1983ish…). My mom always had TV at her house, but when I was visiting my father, I just found other ways to entertain myself. I understand the motivation behind the split from television. Heck, I don’t have TV in my house now. I have A tv. I have a good selection of DVD’s. And I can find anything that’s new on tv on the web and watch it commercial free. I actually feel a lot less stressed because I’m not facing constant media bombardment, day in and day out.

As for the internet, however, I think this is just a matter of people not understanding and/or being too lazy to properly maintain their systems. It’s like saying you don’t want to drive a car because you don’t like having to avoid driving over nails or stopping at intersections. It’s one thing to unplug because you’re not happy with the product, but it’s another thing, entirely, if you’re just too damn ignorant to know when to run AdAware and that most P2P software is going to bog you down with a bunch of bullshit.

Then again, I’m considering getting rid of dishes, because I really hate having to wash them.
