I was arguing against anti-vaccination people in comments on some News Week articles, and one of them accused me of being a shill, specifically of working for either News Week or the CDC.
Hee!
Tangentially related to the recent court finding on the MMR/autism (non)-link, here's a blog entry about a "vaccines cause autism" advocate who supports going to book-stores and reshelving pro-vaccination books so that people won't be able to find them.
Guh.
Combine Dick Cheney's... interesting interpretations of the Constitution ("I'm not a member of the Executive branch, really!") with some left-wing loony conspiracy mongering ("The U.S. government blew up the Towers with explosives!") for some facetious prognostication: on December 15 Bush and/or Cheney has all of the members of the Electoral College murdered in a way to make it look like a coordinated terrorist attack. On December 16 the White House announces that since the constitution says (paraphrased):
Electors chosen on Election Day meet in their respective state capitals on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December
that December 15 is the only day that the Electoral College can vote on the new president, so now that that day has passed no one can be elected president this election cycle. Since a president can't serve more than two terms Bush will step down and Cheney will be the president for the next 4 years.
I had a dream that Fox News read out one of Obama's speeches which had been passed through a jive translator, and then acted completely clueless as to why so many people were offended.
In this essay by a Snape fan on being disappointed about Snape not getting a better ending. Maybe I'm just mis-reading things, but it seems that some of commenters hold that JKR owed Snape a better ending, which would make sense if they were otakukin "Snape is real" types, but they don't seem to be. It's like some weird ethical side of literary theory or something.
In response to this Death Note fandom!secret is this:
You're so mean! TOT Mero-tan and Nia-tan are so clearly in love and have so many rabu-rabu scenes together (= w= ) (////) ♥And the replies are in-character, too. It's hilarious.
I know you must be jealous because Matt and Mero-tan don't have the same chemistry as Mero-tan and Nia-tan, it's too bad, ne (^^;;)a But if you learn to love MeroNia, you'll be happy like us! (^o^)/
From user Elektra on the FictionAlley forums:
The curious thing about ship debates is that both sides are not really arguing about the pairings; they're arguing about whose gut instinct is more valid. ...Probably not the first time it's ever been said, but I still thought it was pretty insightful.
... It becomes a problem, however, once we lose sight of the fact that it's just that: Subjective. Because when that happens, we're left wrangling over whose gut instinct is better justified, and when someone feels that their personal instinct is being belittled... Oy. It's not exactly a surprise that the debate is so messy, is it? [from here]
Cards of Chaos, Minds of Madness, a parody crossover between CCS and the Cthulhu Mythos. Unfortunately just a one shot.

From the founder of a publishing house dedicated to "male lit:
Female characters look like they will be given short shrift in Spitfire stories, as Mr Elliot believes JK Rowling was wrong to have made Harry Potter's friend Hermione his equal.
"It is typical of modern children's books in which there is a boy and a girl and the girl is as good as the boy," he said.
"Just William is a much better read for boys. Violet Elizabeth Bott was a whingeing, snivelling sneak who was always frightened. That is how I would like the girls to be."

He's (probably) just shit stirring in order to get publicity, but that still be me go O_O
Some pundit on Fox compared Obama's speech making to Hitler's.
...
There's preaching to the coir, and then's there's phrasing what you say in a manner that ensures that no one but the coir will even listen to what you say. *sigh*
But a few years ago, A&F [Abercrombie & Fitch] outraged parents by selling thongs for grade school girls which had the words “eye candy” printed inside a tiny heart. (source)

Turns out that I unknowingly skipped over an email from the service that provides email forwarding for my vanity domain name: they're shutting down at the end of the month, but email forwarding stopped working for me around 3 AM PST today.
