Combine Dick Cheney's... interesting interpretations of the Constitution ("I'm not a member of the Executive branch, really!") with some left-wing loony conspiracy mongering ("The U.S. government blew up the Towers with explosives!") for some facetious prognostication: on December 15 Bush and/or Cheney has all of the members of the Electoral College murdered in a way to make it look like a coordinated terrorist attack. On December 16 the White House announces that since the constitution says (paraphrased):

Electors chosen on Election Day meet in their respective state capitals on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December

that December 15 is the only day that the Electoral College can vote on the new president, so now that that day has passed no one can be elected president this election cycle. Since a president can't serve more than two terms Bush will step down and Cheney will be the president for the next 4 years.

Why shipping debates get so heated

From user Elektra on the FictionAlley forums:
The curious thing about ship debates is that both sides are not really arguing about the pairings; they're arguing about whose gut instinct is more valid. ...

... It becomes a problem, however, once we lose sight of the fact that it's just that: Subjective. Because when that happens, we're left wrangling over whose gut instinct is better justified, and when someone feels that their personal instinct is being belittled... Oy. It's not exactly a surprise that the debate is so messy, is it? [from here]
Probably not the first time it's ever been said, but I still thought it was pretty insightful.

For anyone who's been following the SCO vs IBM and SCO vs Novell lawsuits, SCO has declared chapter 11 bankruptcy. This is interesting for several reasons:

1) It automatically stays all other pending lawsuits, which is probably why SCO did it, given that the bankruptcy claim was filed on Friday and the trial was start the following Monday. The bankruptcy judge may decided to send it back to the Novell lawsuit to determine how much of SCO's assets belong to Novell before proceeding with the bankruptcy, but that still buys SCO some delay, and SCO always loves delay.

2) Novel is technically not one of SCO's creditors, even though SCO owes them more than all of their creditors combined. It's like if, say, Coca Cola had a vending machine in the building of a hotel that goes bankrupt, rather than being considered a creditor of the hotel, Coca Cola goes to the bankruptcy court and proves that they own the vending machine so that they get it back, rather than it being sold to pay of the hotel's debts. It's just that in this case the thing that SCO has which belongs to Novell is money. I have no clue if this makes things harder or easier on Novell than if they had been a creditor, but it sure is a weird situation.

3) SCO told the judge in the Novell case that they weren't contemplating bankruptcy, yet filing for Chapter 11 isn't something you can do on the spur of the moment. The judge is likely to Not Be Pleased.

Yep, Dark Horse Comics is going to reissue the Gor novels. Why you gotta make me choose between boycotting you and buying Oh My Goddess!? On the other hand, this gives me an idea for a crossover where an accident sends Urd to Gor and the men there try to enslave her...
