Okay...
For those of you who know me, you will know that I do not like moths. Any moths. Small moths, bigger moths, Great British moths, any moths. Yah, even those tiny little moths who come into your room and just flutter about. Hate them. Also, being a puppy does not make me immune to moth fear, and don't say that I'm bigger than they are because you didn't see the one in my kitchen just now.
I went out to do some washing up, boiled the kettle and filled up a bowl. Then I hear this strange noise behind the microwave. The kind of rustly crackly noise that means there's something there. Then BOOM, out flies this HUGE ASS GIGANTAMOUS SONOFABITCH moth. Seriously, biggest fucker I've ever seen and I'm not overexaggerating. Oh no. So, naturally, I freak. Quick dash back to the bedroom and have a few minutes of hyperventilating ensues. Sod the washing up, it can be done tomorrow. But, fuck, I realise I've left the light on. Tiny peek out the door and hunt for the HAMF (huge ass motherfucker) moth. Not only can I see it, but it's chosen to perch on the bag right outside my damn bedroom door.
Now. Lets sum up. I have to turn the light off in the kitchen. HAMF moth is between me and the kitchen. If I leave the safety of my room and go into the kitchen, will HAMF moth then sneak into my bedroom, leaving puppy to sleep in the hall. The rest of CSI is then taken up with puppy staring at HAMF moth and debating whether or not to risk it. Finally, with pawprint blanket in hand, I test the HAMF moth with a quick flick of the blanket by it. It sits there. Good. Slowly I move by it then dash into the kitchen. Peek back to see if HAMF moth is still there. It is. Good. Pour the water out of the bowl and leave it on the side for tomorrow. HAMF moth still there. Carefully dash back into bedroom and shut the door behind me. Victory and much hyperventilating ensues. |

Yes, we finally found him!
So as some of you may know, I went on a Compositing course in January for twelve weeks. During that time we got the chance to work on this fan film for the Lord of the Rings that some of the guys at Framestore (one of the main post houses in London) were making. Good timing all round and a great step up into the industry. It was such great fun and yesterday I went to the premiere of it in Leicester Square and the launch party. All the cast and crew got a dvd and today it premiered online at The Hunt For Gollum.
I worked on three shots for the film, all of which I composited to the final thing, so the shots of mine you see in the film will have been done entirely by me *is dead chuffed*.
The first one is at 6:52 in; Aragorn looking around the cave.
The second one is the two orcs wandering around the forest at 12:06
The third was only 17 frames long (1 second is 25 frames) and of the orcs again, but I didn't see it at the cinema. Not that I'm that worried, it was short and a very easy shot to do. The two main shots, and the hardest ones, were both in there :)
I think it looks great!
Once I've finished the breakdowns for the shots, I'll upload them so you can see how I composited them.
Oh, and there's my name in the credits at 36:32 XD |

So I just finished the 12 week Compositing course at Escape Studios in London. It was so much fun and well worth the cost. This was definitely the right thing for me. I love doing Compositing and our class were privaledged to work on the upcoming fan film for the Lord of the Rings made by employees from Framestore. It was all for free as it's a fan film, but it was the best possible start we could ever have into the industry as it was working with HD footage and also gave us our first taste of a proper production scenario. I rotoscoped and composited a whole shot as well as a paint fix on another and a 3D projection patch job on a third. The film will be premiered online sometime in May, and the cast and crew (that means us) are all invited to a proper premiere are the Apollo in London in May, so I get to see it on the big screen. My first ever time in film credits!
I'm so proud of my composite. It's looking good and our tutor said it was the best comp he'd seen come out of the course, so yah, I'm pretty damn chuffed. I'll upload the breakdown of the shot and the final shot after the film has gone up online and you've all had a chance to see it. Then you can find out how I did it!
Now I've just got to get my showreel together and send it off to all the post production houses in London. Also, at the studios themselves they have an in-house recruitment and they are currently looking for roto artists to work on the upcoming film Fantastic Mr Fox. I'll get a roto showreel together and send that off asap.
*BOUNCE*
So yah, that's where I've been since the New Year! Busy productive Puppy *g* |

And this time it's worse than last year.
I'm talking about work of course *g* As some of you know, I work in retail (SUCK - luckily I'm only there until Jan when I go on my course). This means that over Christmas things get real busy. I do evening merchandising from 5 til 9 and am in during the day from 1 - 3 (then an hour for lunch). During the daytime I work confectionary and Christmas confectionary and I'm the till supervisor's bitch. That means I go on the tills if needed, and run up and down the stairs to the warehouse every 5 minutes getting internet orders and finding things for customers. That, as well as dealing with customers and trying to get my confectionary worked. Then in the evenings I do DIY and Seasonal mostly. Seasonal with the most untidy man on the planet. Which means muggins here has to clean up after him usually, as well as supervising the shop floor when we're done, getting all the cages and rubbish sent upstairs and tidying up. Besides that, I'm doing occasional little jobs for the manager after setting myself such a high bloody standard and having a damned annoying desire to please people. I have my normal work, and my overtime, and loads of other responsibilities on top of that all fitted into 35 hours a week (more when I work into my lunchtime that I don't get paid for like today).
So this is to let anyone I play with know that I might be cranky up until Christmas. That or I might be napping. Also, gave me a chance to rant a bit (believe me, this is the vague condensed version).
Happy Holidays *g* |

For Thriller day, the Tinies of Second Life got together and did their own Thriller dance. Unfortunately I could attend as it was while I was working, but one of our resident bunnies and troublemakers Chaffro made a music video of it and I got to be in the pickups.
Here it is!
I'm the vampuppy with the cloak :)
Also, Chaffro made a Tiny version of The Ting Tings That's Not My Name
Enjoy!

You Are 90% British

Are you British? Hell, you're more of a Brit than the Queen is!
You're truly the dog's bollocks... and you know that's not an insult.
So what if you're a slobbering drunk obsessed with football?
At least you always remember your manners.

Puppy has landed

Puppy has landed in Dallas alright and good. Though the second leg of the flight was ugh. Was in the middle between two people and it was a small local plane which meant it was dull and ick. Tis actually cooler here than it was the last time and it's noticeable (though is still hot). Saw Diva again (YAY!) and Hannah (ADORE HANNAH) and now I'm in OK with Minnie (Bunny's doggie) and met Bandit (Bunny's other new doggie). Gave her her birthday presents (Bunny, not the doggies) and got mauled by the kids.
Now I'm looking forward to seeing Liz (you hear that, Liz? We has a little Ralph for you :) so you better come see! and I has my cards to play with you and we want to take you to the little British import store they found so we can compare stuff). Can't wait to see you! |

On Monday puppy will once again be on a plane over to Oklahoma :) I'll be gone with ma Bunny for 3 weeks and can't wait. NO WORK! WOO! I really need the break from work (though I do dread to think what a state the store will be in when I get back), and I'm gonna have a great time.
So have a good couple of weeks while I'm gone and so will I and I'll see ya all on the other side :) When I get back I'll be a year older!
And Liz and Ralph, get your butts over there! |
