A New Year's Day shooting in which a subway police officer fired a deadly shot into the back of an unarmed man has the San Francisco Bay Area demanding answers as authorities appeal for patience.
Bay Area Rapid Transit spokesman Linton Johnson told CNN affiliate KTVU-TV in Oakland, California, that the officer is presumed innocent and described him as devastated.
Attorney John Burris called the shooting "unconscionable" and said he filed a $25 million claim with BART on Tuesday, alleging wrongful death and violation of civil rights by use of excessive force. BART has 45 days to respond, Burris said.
"It's a clear shooting in the back that should not have taken place," Burris said, characterizing the incident as a case of "overagressiveness by police."They have two videos of the officers forcing this guy to the ground and shooting him, and they call it 'overagressiveness by the police'? That's the understatement of the year. What really gets me is that further down in the article it says that he was trying to calm everyone down and get them to do what the police said. |

And Jacob Black Will Be Played By... Taylor Lautner. Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

Jacob casting announcement coming sometime this week And it doesn't stop the lovely members of lion_lamb from wanking about it before it even comes out. From the EW article: This week, Summit is expected to announce its decision for the next film based on Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful series of vampire romance novels. Kristen Stewart, 18, is set to return as Bella Swan, the beautiful human who falls for a softhearted bloodsucker. And Robert Pattinson, 22, has a lock on his job too; his turn as Edward Cullen, the hunky, soulful vampire, has made him an overnight superstar with young female moviegoers around the planet. But Lautner, 16, has a more uncertain future. That's because the character he was so perfectly cast to play in the first Twilight film—a slim, baby-faced teenager—will be greatly expanded in the sequel. And by greatly expanded, we mean into a hulking, snarling, seven-foot Lycan.
''Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon,'' says Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of both Twilight films. ''He's a foot taller and huge—and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role.'' Rosenberg is quick to add, however, that ''everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever.''
Fans of the Twilight novels—specifically those who identify themselves as ''Team Jacob''—are divided over whether Lautner has the machismo to carry New Moon. In fact, pro-Lautner/anti-Lautner fights have been breaking out on the Web for weeks. As screenwriter Rosenberg puts it, ''He has to play a romantic lead against Rob, who's a 22-year-old man. That's a tall order.''( Cue the choruses of ROB'S HOTTER, NO TAYLOR, NO U! )ETA: It is officially announced that Taylor will continue to be Jacob in 'New Moon.' And there was much rejoicing in TwiLand. Also, arcaneshinigami - the browbeaten Jacob fan - posts a rant about all the mean lion_lamb people ganging up on her in sortofbeautiful. |

Unfunny ANN Double-Header Wank On Anime News Network's Chicks On Anime, this week's topic is censorship/editing in anime and manga. (Gee, this sure isn't going to cause wank at all.) The participants talk about different kinds of editing that North America and Japan do including nudity, violence, sexuality, smoking and alcohol, racism, AIDS, homophobia, loli/shota, and anything editors/publishers force the creators to change because they say so. It doesn't take long for the forum to become unfunny. (Ex-Answerman Zac is in there too. I am so surprised. Really.) Speaking of censoring, ANN also posted about Kodomo no Jikan's second season promo being streamed. (Zac, the one blamed for KnJ being canceled for release in NA, in this one too.) Edit: For anyone who wonders whether KnJ is pedo or not, all you have to do is look at the official merchandise. (Warning: Keep Brain and Eye Bleach near you, you'll need it. Oh God...) |

So Transfan, I Herd U Liek Pedo Bear? Transformers comic book fandom wank.. Early this morning, it was about pedophilia. My doppelgänger from the IDW fan forum Skwege learned that he had been accused of having sex with children by the IDW forum fantards on Transfans.net. Sprunkner is a real internet tough guy. Unfortunately, he made it quite easy to find his dox.
Skwege was not happy to find he'd been slandered as a pedo. So he calls (yes, as in calls Sprunkner's landline) to tell him to take it down. No yelling, just something along the lines of "call me whatever you want but accusing me of child fucking is not cool."
What does Spencer (Sprunkner's IRL name) do? He freaks out and hangs up!
That's right-he's a coward. So Skwege leaves him a voicemail: "Hi Spencer : You like to make libelous accusations about people having sex with kids? That is really grown up of you. Oh wow, you live in Washington State as well? What a coincidence! Bellingham is only an hour from here.
It's not funny! I know little punks like you think they can run around all anonymous on the internet and think nothing can bite them in their ass. However let me tell you little man, you are going to retract your statement, and then apologize. Talking shit about someone is one thing, but making a disgusting and FOUL comment like that is libelous. I have the time, money, resources, and most importantly the fucking patience to see this through so don't toy with me little man."
Then Sprunkner has his wife (yes, someone actually agreed to marry him) respond. He doesn't have the balls to answer Skwege himself-he makes his wife call him back and tell him not to call. Unfortunately, Spencer posted her phone number and email as his contact information.
Some PMs get exchanged on the IDW forum and Sprunkner accuses Skwege of threatening him (although I doubt the police consider being asked to take down a post or telling someone you're suing them for slander are violations of any particular laws). He makes an announcement on Transfans.net, crying that Skwege is harassing his family and that he called the po-po on him.
Sprunkner did call the police and they in turn contact Skwege.
The result? The police are highly pissed off-at Sprunkner. Because this is much ado about comic books.
All this name calling and wank is over whether or not the comic book series All Hail Megatron is in continuity.
The police were not too happy about being called to mediate a dispute over Starscream's alt mode.
They lecture Sprunkner and felt Skwege was somewhat justified. Skwege apologizes for dragging the wife into the mess because being accused of fucking children is serious business that involves the IRL banhammer.
The wank continues on Tranfan.net where Sprunkner whines some more (I guess his wife made him sleep on the couch) and Skwege threatens to post a scan of the police report.
These fine examples of male adulthood continue to fight about giant robots. I believe Sprunkner's wife summed it up succinctly in an email to Skwege: "This is a fight over made up robots-let it go."
Unfortunately, everyone ignores her.
Edit: I accept this is total fail. Need more recipes and fail macros, please. |

Time Sensitive FW flashback... ...I'm asking on behalf of someone who's doing a..unique trivia contest, so there's a slight time-sensitive element.
I'm trying to find more info on the old "Fandom Unite!" LJ controversy that used "Hoist The Colors" as its theme song -- i.e., exactly what was fandom uniting about? I'm vaguely remembering details -- which of the "scrapping communities" stunts LJ pulled did it pertain to?
Thanks in advance. I'm kind of sleep-deprived and can't function too well. |

Poor RPattz... The next installment to the vampire saga that is on every hot list is going to be a labor of love. Rumors are running rampant that Summit is concerned about the film’s success. While there is little to no doubt the film will do well, concerns are focused on the monumental following Robert Pattinson is pulling.
The “Twilight” sequel, “New Moon,” focuses on Bella Swan’s best friend, Jacob Black. There is drama in the casting department for Jacob, but beyond that there is a lack of the heartthrob factor of Edward Cullen. Summit fears that the lack of Robert and his character in the film will leave the audience unhappy and won’t bring the numbers they are hoping for.
So spies are squealing that the plot and script are being altered to give Pattinson more screen time.
“They want to find a way to give Robert a bigger role than the book calls for without making major changes to the story line.”
Currently Taylor Lautner is still fighting for his role as Jacob, but Michael Copon is pulling ahead according to Life and Style.SourceThe ONTD post in case anyone wants to surf for wank |

RPattz is grasping at straws now... From IMDb:Pattinson Eyes A Problem For Vampire Sequel
Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson isn't looking forward to reprising his blood-sucking role in the hit film's sequel New Moon - because he has to wear uncomfortable contact lenses for the part.
The British star played vampire Edward Cullen in the box office adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's cult book, and has signed a multi-million dollar deal to play the character again in the franchise's second outing in 2010.
But he is dreading preparing to shoot the new venture - because wearing his character's topaz coloured contacts is such a painful ordeal.
He tells Britain's Ok! magazine, "Wearing coloured contact lenses... It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes. I was wearing them for three months constantly and my eyes never ever accepted them! It took me 20 minutes per eye every single day and I ended up having to literally fold it into my eyeball."
And the star believes the dreaded lenses may inhibit his acting skills - because he couldn't properly portray his character's emotions due to the "two orange blobs" in his eyes.
He adds, "It was frustrating as well because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you've got two orange blobs in your face it's so annoying!
"The director (Catherine Hardwicke) would say, 'Look at her (Kristen Stewart) like you love her,' and I'd be like, 'I'm trying!' I'm going to have to do it again because we're making the sequel next year."He can't be Edward, you gaiz! He can't ~*~*~emote~*~*~ with the contacts! |

The grammar! My eyes! I'm just C&P'ing a mousie's post from wank_report. I can't pass up entitlement wank. Crunchyroll is going legit. The site owner, Shinji, has been wheeling and dealing to have anime air subbed only days after it airs in Japan. OK, users are pleased, the Naruto fans look on in anticipation, everything seems hunky-dory. Then, Shinji introduces Anime memberships for the site. Did not read all of the benefits but the gist seems to be higher quality videos and quicker access to the anime from Japan. That happened in the past few weeks. Now queue the new year! Oops, did he just say that he was removing all fan uploaded content and getting permission from the publishers? Queue the butthurt, angst, and I will kill for my anime!!!!Z!!!!!!ZOMG~!!!! Along with people eagerly trading links for other sites to feed their addiction. The dramas, anime, and music sections now look like ghost towns, with the exception of stuff Shinji has wheeled and dealed for. People are predicting the death of the site, but for now, it's fun seeing the entitlement angst going on over there. |

A Short Tale of Starbucks, a Barista, and a Guitar Small wank brought to you by wank_report and baristas. Guy, supposedly, leaves guitar at Starbucks. Guy comes back and has an exchange with wrything_worms. ( starbucks is not your storage unit dumbass ) wrything_worms decides to keep the guitar (HEY, FREE GUITAR, GAIZ!) after Guy doesn't come back for it and post the supposedly totally true tale here. Mixed reaction occurs with a lot of "you suck" and the dreaded C word gets thrown into play. Some people agree because the customer was trying to take advantage. wrything_worms then flounces and passive-agressively recants keeping the guitar in a second post to prove to all those nasty people calling wrything_worms an asshole just how much of a non-asshole wrything_worms is. ( how to be legendary )Naturally, more drama unfolds, but a lot of people agree that the cunt comment was uncalled for. Someone asks an important question: Wait, how did he get the guitar there if he was riding a bike?my reference to british people was merely referring to the fact that a great many of them use the word 'cunt' like any other word, therefore taking away from it's power Or how personal journal trolling is the classy thing to do. When he comes to get it, fuck with his head! Edit: What exactly can you get from starbucks that's $1.55 anyways? |

"Why is Dora crying?" Because you're going to pull the plug. 'Colbert,' 'SpongeBob' may go dark on Time Warner. Media giant Viacom Inc. said its Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark for 13 million subscribers at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal with Time Warner Cable Inc. is not agreed upon by then.[...] Instead, Viacom appealed directly to Time Warner Cable's customers, with TV ads in major markets. In Wednesday's New York Times, the company ran a full-page, color advertisement with Nickelodeon's animated bilingual heroine "Dora the Explorer" crying and clinging to her monkey pal, Boots.
"Why is Dora crying?" the ad asks. "Time Warner Cable is taking Dora off the air tonight!" The ad urges viewers to call Time Warner Cable and demand that their favorite shows remain on the air.
I don't know whether to post this here or clairvoyantwank. Since this is news story I figure I'd try here, but be ready for the fandom fallout. fandom surveys Grad Student Studies Fandom with FAN MEDIA AND CREATIVITY survey. Yeehaw! The grad student in question is more gamer than fen, but I think the survey is pretty aware of the fandom experience anyway. The questions towards the end are thought-provoking in... unusual (okay, kinda weird) ways, but there's a nice little space to ramble on about them. The fact that the survey-creator is a friend of mine should in no way detract from my totally rational opinion that contributing lots of (anonymousey) data to a research study that's actually trying to understand fandom culture can only be a Good Thing. Right? Right. So, you know, spread the link far and wide for the next few weeks while she collects the responses. :) I'm posting this here instead of fandom-lounge in part because I'm curious: what are YOUR thoughts on academic-type surveys of fandom behavior? a) Hell yeah! I fight crime with data! b) BORING and/or elitist. I'd rather read fic. c) Usually they suck c1) This one sucks c2) This one actually doesn't suck d) I'm skeptical of fandom surveys for reasons I may or may not explain in the comments. e) I want a "I fight crime with data" t-shirt.* f) I have an actual answer to this question that cannot be contained by multiple choice. *Me too. At the intersection of FFVII and FFR... When shezoo reposts hir Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children fanfic, "Flower Face", to ffvii_yaoi (locked, comm is open membership), the response is seemingly underwhelming - that is until eternalwings posts to fanficrants about the story. The first few comments are pretty tame and agreeable, until some of the author's friends and the author hirself show up. It's called AU, twit. Apparently, the story title comes from Welsh mythology, something renos_rude AND screamersgirl explain in the comments using the exact same text (with a tiny error likely because the entire lump wouldn't fit in AIM). And then the author appears, complete with capslock, insults and exclamation point abuse. AND YOUR RUINING THE PRETEND!Not to mention the entire thread devolving into something to do with coconut. All's well that wanks well, right? Except that a quick check back to see when "Flower Face" was originally posted reveals that shezoo is sepherotica is ssgallery is annataria ( that Annataria), because ze changes usernames as often as ze changes URLS. And while some of those journals have been deleted, Annataria's is still there, listing many of the 'random' defenders (including the one so taken by the story) on FFR as friends. ...whoops? |
