So I was sitting at my desk doing random pen sketches and as I was drawing this, I noticed the face (and hair) were rather Billie Joe-ish looking. I don't even like the guy, but he's all over my flist over here, so I guess I was unconsciously influenced. :p

I haven't updated my fic site since posting the Kavalier & Clay fic, because all I was writing were drabbles and ficlets and I figured I'd just do a batch update. So I took a look last night and was amazed to find I have seven fics to upload, a total of about 1500 words. O_o Wow. It didn't seem like I was writing that much.

In work news, I have not been nearly as productive. I finished the film I was working on (finally!) and haven't started up a new one yet. Instead I have a few video covers to translate. Did two yesterday and need to do two more today (aaaaand, just got two more as I was typing this). Also need to do a batch of Power Rangers scripts. I meant to do two yesterday and it just didn't get done...

In other news, I still haven't got paid for a couple of the highest ending auctions I had last week. Waaah. They'd better pay up, the bastards. I need that money. I hate when people fuck with you on eBay.

Oh, and I finished reading Breakfast on Pluto. It was all right, and I'll probably read some of his other books now, but I wasn't wowed. It will be interesting to see the film, though, because the book is so disjointed and lacking in a basic plot that I wonder what they can do with it. I'm sure they'll have changed it quite a bit.

I also read 17 and 18 of Fruits Basket. 17 was finally the one with the Akito revelations that were causing all that wank months and months ago. Lots of other good stuff going on, too. Couplings are becoming more and more clear, especially ( spoiler )

I've been listening to a lot of music lately. ( Further music rambling )

Someone on teh_music asked for REM stuff, so I ended up uploading my top 15 favorites. It was hard to choose, but here they are (in alphabetical order).

I just found out that Seiyou Kottou Yougashi-ten has been released in English under the name Antique Bakery. I highly recommend this to anyone who's interested in books with gay protagonists. Yes, this is a manga. Yes, one of the guys is gay. However, it's not yaoi. It's not even a romance. It's just a really great series about four guys who work at a bakery, and the art is beautiful, to boot.

"Me, too!" Elijah says, holding up a copy of Lonely Planet Mexico, his finger still stuck in between the pages to mark his place. "Me and Hannah - my sister," he clarifies, lest this guy get the wrong impression, because he is kinda cute in a scruffy way. And British. "Over Christmas break or something."

Waah, I spent money today. ;_;

In the morning, we went to Asahiya and I ended up getting several manga: Fruits Basket 17 and 18, Shaman King 23, Nana 12 and 13, and Hanazakari no Kimitachi e 22. At $5.90 each, that added up to narly $40 with tax. >_<

Then we stopped at Fry's and Prisonder of Azkaban was on sale for $8.99 (I guess to promote GoF), so I ended up getting that.

On top of all that, tonight when we went to the store, we were looking at the fancy cheese section and I saw this baked brie thing that looked soooooo good. But it wasn't too tempting because it was huge and cost $19. But then I saw a smaller one for only $7 and I couldn't resist. It's brie with cranberries, apricots, almonds, and brandy, covered in brioche, and you bake it in the oven and eat it all warm and (kind of) melty. OMG SO GOOD. I just wish it had been meltier, then it would have been perfect.

But that means all told I spent nearly $60 on myself. Gah. My only consolation is that Fruits Basket and Shaman King will be sold as soon as I read them, and HanaKimi can be sold as a complete set as soon as I get and read vol. 23, so it's not too bad. Nana I'm trying to decide if I should sell now or wait til it finishes (whenever that might be), but that will be sold eventually, too.

In unrelated news, I ate more expired candy, but didn't feel like crossposting.

Spitz are one of my all-time favorite Japanese bands. They're one of the first jpop artists I ever heard (on Yoru mo Hit Parade, no less, so it wasn't even them, but rather someone else singing one of their songs, as Yoru mo was (alas, it's long since been cancelled) a karaoke top ten show).

You might find Kusano's voice takes a little getting used to, but it'll grow on you. I really do love his vocals. The music is hard to classify. Rock, yes, but that's so broad. Sadly, I can't really narrow it down because I suck like that. Most of the songs I've chosen are more upbeat, but they do have a lot of good slow stuff as well.

What I've done is put my recs in chronological order here. In addition, I only picked as many as would fit on a CD, so if you want to burn this mix, you can. :) It was really hard to choose only nineteen, as I have almost all their albums and they're all really good. But these are definitely my top faves.

If I had to narrow it down (ie, if you don't want to download all nineteen, but I really recommend you do so), I'd say my top five are Ai no Kotoba, Kimi Dake wo, Hoshi no Kakera, Hadaka no Mama de, and Nakayoshi.

In the grand tradition of Steve, Don't Eat It! (which I should have added to my list of links yesterday except that it's not regularly updated. There was a new one when I looked just now, though - Korean silkworm pupas. Mmm-mmm, good), I present you with Grace, Don't Eat It!

Unlike, Steve, I did not set out to eat something nasty. It just happened, as these things often will. I was going through one of my boxes of eBay stuff that didnt' sell, and I happened across this:



Cute, innit? Hello Kitty strawberry Pocky. I bought it thinking some Hello Kitty fan might want it, but no, it didn't sell, so it went into the box, never to be seen from again...until now!

I thought to myself, how bad could cookies go? I mean, sure it says copyright 2001, but that's only four years ago.

On the bottom of the package, it tells me the expiration date is November 2002, coming up on three years ago. Now, I didn't see this until after I'd taken a bite, but I doubt it would have stopped me.



So I opened the package, and they look just like regular strawberry Pocky. How bad could it be? They smell kind of sickly sweet. I wonder if the fake strawberry coating was as gross smelling originally as it is four years later.

Anyway, I took one out and took a bite and OH MY GOD THIS SHIT IS NASTY!!! I can't even begin to explain. How can a strawberry-coated cookie taste so foul? The cookie was really, really stale (duh) and I don't know what was up with the strawberry, but ugh.

I threw them in the trash, spit it out, even used my nails to get the nasty, nasty strawberry shit out of my molars because it was just that bad. I did not want it in my mouth a second longer.

Once I'd popped a couple Hi Chew to get rid of the taste and downed most of a bottle of water, I grabbed the package and remaining cookies out of the trash and took a picture, cause I ought to get some use out of this experience.
