I've heard that Mary Sue stories can teach authors what not to write, but I don't think there are any positive benefits...

Why I Think Mary Sue/Self-Insert Stories Do Nothing For An Author's Talent )

Well? Opinions? Think of anything I missed? Or do you think that some Mary Sue/self-insert stories actually do add to an author's talent?

Possible list of consequences for a Sue who goes into a medieval-type world )

Now, a lot of this is detail that might kill a story, as I've heard some people complain, but if you're going to write about a character falling into another world, really falling into one, how can you skip it? It's a lot of work to deal with realistically, of course, but that's just another reason to not write these stupid kinds of stories.

Going to a medieval fantasy world would suck.
