The only clearly asexual female character (and protagonist)I can think of is in SF is Adele Mundy from David Drake's RCN series. The worst part is that the fans will position the female character into a romance even if it's clear in both the text and the author's comments on his website that the character is asexual.
I know exactly what you mean. Although characters I read about rarely strike me as completely asexual unless the author says so, I've had the experience of going to read fanfiction for a new fandom and thinking, "Huh? The fuck are they pairing her up with him for?"
But lone heroes in fantasy seem to escape pairing more often than lone heroines. | |
