I love the Dresden Files series, but I don't like that they've been going in a steadily grimdarker direction, especially with the latest installment. (I do still find that sacrifice scene moving in and of itself, but in a wider context...I'd heard that there were a lot of fans who disliked Susan, and, well...yeah.) I could cut some of the points in #5 as long as the novels stayed generally lighthearted (which, okay, yeah, I know some really dark things happened in the novels, but given that they were generally framed at the beginning and ends with pretty comic stuff), but...yeah.
I only read the first book of the October Daye series, but wasn't impressed enough to go check out the second novel. |
