I don't mind music rants, myself- my ma and I watch the show together and keep commenting on how awful and inappropriate it's been this season. I guess they're trying not to repeat anything they've used in the first 5 seasons, but good GRIEF, they're not even trying. And the funniest part is, it's the producers that pick the music- the pros and dancers are pretty much stuck with whatever they get. I think on occasion they get granted requests, but otherwise, what they get it what they've got.
Heh. I realize they can't do what happens in actual dance competition where the Paso music will be one of two selections and everyone knows it. But those two pieces of music have the accent/pose at exactly the same place so the choreogrphy can hit that pose and know it'll be there. But for these purposes I understand they aren't going to do that.
What irks me is that each dance has certain requirements and this year the producers don't seem to understand anything beyond "it's in 4/4 time unless it's a waltz and then it's 3/4 time." Getting it right seems accidental.
Jive and quickstep need to be energetic, tango and paso doble need to evoke passion and arrogance, waltz and foxtrot need to have flow. I'm almost at the point where I want to watch them dance with the sound muted. But then I wouldn't be able to rant about the stupid music choices. Hmmm... decisions. oh who am I kidding? Gotta rant! | |
