19th November, 2005. 1:20 am. Guilty Pleasures

Haven't posted in awhile. Mostly been hanging out on LJ, but it's down right now.

While looking over the fanfic saved on my hard drive, I quickly realized that I have a lot of fic saved that, if looking at it from my normal way of critiquing fanfic, really sucks. I mean, some of my favorite fics are desperately out of character, badly written, horribly cliche, etc.

But I still love them.

So, for your reading pleasure, I present some of my favorite fics that really shouldn't be. These fics all have something seriously wrong with them, but have still managed to hold a special place in my heart. Enjoy.

Weiss Kruez )

Harry Potter )

Animorphs )

Yes, I should be working on my NaNoWriMo story, but I'm procrastinating. Ah, the lengths one will go to in order to keep from actually doing something productive.

8th August, 2004. 2:58 pm. Recs

It's always easy to find good fics in the big fandoms. Aside from the fact that you have a higher chance of getting good fic with more people writing, you also have gazillions of rec pages. Finding good stuff in the small fandoms is harder. So! For your reading pleasure, three recs for three (relatively) small fandoms. All slash/yaoi.

Animoprhs:

The Perspective

Ah, Animorphs. My first fandom love. While it used to be one of the biggest fandoms on FF.net, Harry Potter has long overshadowed it. There are very few slash fics, and of them very few that I find IC. Hands down, this is best Animorphs story ever, as well as my favorite handling of an OC. The story is told from the perspective of a young gay teen and his yeerk. Beautifully interweaves the events of books and elegantly displays yeerk psychology.

YuGiOh:

Cody Nelson

While not technically a small fandom, it does have an incredibly small amount of good fics. I think a lot of writers overlook the truly textured world of YuGiOh. All of the fics on this site are worth a read, and while you're at it, go read the X-files fic. Classic.

Digimon:

Herongale

Herongale *is* digimon yaoi. In a fandom plagued by simplistic fic, Herongale explores the complicated interpersonal relationships of Daisuke and Ken. Beautiful characterization. Plus, her humor fic is actually funny. Who knew?

So go. Read. And don't forget to give feedback!

Current mood: geeky.

6th August, 2004. 12:54 am. Yo

Wow, it's been a while. Sigh.

It doesn't feel like summer was here long at all. Too many things happening, I guess. Moving, summer camp, etc. I start school in two weeks and I'm so not ready. It's nice, though, that I don't have to take many classes. I only need ten units before I can transfer to a university...yes! I'm going to take ASL and Japanese this sem. and work full time.

So that means I have to find a job. Ah, well. I'm thinking about working as a nanny, but I'm at the I'll-do-anything-as-long-as-it's-not-fastfood stage.

So I have about three stories right now that are completely stalled. My Hermione/Luna one is SO close to being finished. I have maybe two chapters left but I...don't care? I don't know, I just ran out of steam. My Ron/Snape stalled, too. I'm probably not going to continue it. It was a good idea but now it kind of sucks, I think. I have a harry/snape that I really want to finish, but it's going to be awhile. I have no Snape voice. And don't even get me started on the Weiss fic I've had shelved for over a year...

Okay, so enough grumping! Life is good! I'll start posting more often. Really.

Maybe tomorrow I'll have recs and stories!

30th April, 2004. 8:26 am. OMGWTF

WARNING: This rant was written in extreme haste and after very little sleep.

I'm so pissed I just have to find a place to vent. Eureka! The journal that no one reads!

The amount of anti-gay legislation that's being passed is overwhelming. I don't mean the "marriage is sacred" fanatics, I mean people who really, really hate gays. Apparently, that's okay now. Homophobia? Perfectly reasonable. (racism? you, you nazi, you. we're not racist in this country, uh-uh).

http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/04/042204MichMed.htm

So if this goes through, health care workers will be allowed to refuse service to gays on the grounds of "conscientious objection" and "religious freedom". The fuck? Docs are supposed to be *impartial* and treat people regardless of who they are. That's why they take criminals to the hospital. That's why the Red Cross treats people regardless of what side they are on the conflict. A person is a person.

I feel like I'm in an alternate reality. This does not seem possible in America. Land of the free...I don't think I'll be able to hear that again without either laughing or sobbing hysterically.

I'm moving to Canada.

Current mood: crazy.
Current music: None, simply the sound of my angered growling..

I just keep getting sucked into XF fandom. A friend of mine and I are passing around fic recs and I sent her a M/K I'd read. So she starts sending me MSR stories I haven't read in years. Golly gee I started reading and I remembered why I was so obsessed years ago (beyond the 13-year-old girl thing). Went through many stories and pledged my undying love for Lydia Bower.

I'm on a het binge, actually. Turns out that Draco/Hermione and Draco/Ginny fic aren't entirely repulsive once you get away from the fangirls. I read a bunch of shorts and then felt dirty. Need slash...there just hasn't been much good stuff coming out recently.

I WANT THE PLOT BUNNIES TO GO AWAY!! I keep telling them I'm busy, but they just won't listen. I have four stories I'm working on (and another I've stashed till I feel ready to deal w/ it). One is *so* close to being finished, but I'm burning out. I've been tweaking it for months and I'm so tired of it. They sneak up on me unawares. I was just thinking about how annoying it was that Ron's always portrayed as the uber straight guy and wouldn't it be cool if he was very gay and then WHAM! I'm now writing Ron chan. Ambiguous consent, even. ::sob::

And I'm moving tomorrow. So I should really be sleeping and not worrying about things that, as my mother would say, Do Not Matter. I'm just trying to avoid reality for a while.

Later.

15th April, 2004. 10:26 am. New obsession ::sigh::

I just finished Flame of Recca. Coolest show ever, seriously. Yeah, I know it's basically Yu Yu Hakashou (and I know the spelling on that's probably wrong) but for some reason I liked Recca better. Dunno why, maybe it's the shotakon hentai in me. I felt uber guilty as I was watching it and thinking "Golly, Tokiya and Karou would be so cute together..."

Now my problem. There is next to no Recca fanfic. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place but OH! I'd love to read some. That's a fandom I could have fun screwing with. Tayla's Recca fic was great (of course. It always makes me happy when I find a fandom she's written in).

9th April, 2004. 12:17 pm. Golly gee, this just warms my little polislash heart...

So I'm in the waiting room for hours and in need of reading material. They have Reader's Digest. Not my usual thing but it's better than nothing, right? And then I see an article, "In the Footsteps of Giants" by Jon Meacham. It compares the friendships of British Prime Ministers and American Presidents. The picture? An adorable pick of FDR with his arm around Churchill AND below President Bush and Tony Blair *holding hands* and Bush just looks like he's trying to keep the emotion in (is that a blush across Blair's cheeks?).

Umm and the article itself. Best lines:
