2:35 pm - Intro
|
::sighs:: Well I finally broke down and got one of these. So I figured I might as well write a little about myself.
Name: Kim aka LunyKimberly Age: Legal Location: Georgia (though home is still Alaska) Reason for getting journal: Mainly the friends feature so I don't have to keep checking 20 pages for updates daily but also the occasional rant session. Bio: Professionally I'm a computer programmer turned web site designer/coder with an e-commerce twist. Personally I'm a certified fanfic addict with WAY too many genres and ships to keep track of.
I'm a lurker by nature that's doing her damnedest to break the habit. Though I still have a tendency to be active online for several months and then drop off the face of the Earth for three or four months. One Word to describe self: Eclectic
As I've said, I've got way too many obsessions and likes to properly list, but here are a "few" of them (the current ones at least): TV Shows: Buffy, Angel, Blood Ties, CSI, Supernatural, Power Rangers, Andromeda, Highlander, Tomorrow People, Charmed, Roswell, Forever Knight, Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Atlantis, Witchblade, Babylon 5, Wolf Lake, Black Sash, Earth2, In A Heartbeat, So Weird, Poltergeist: The Legacy, Robotech, Thundercats, and Looney Tunes Actors: Vincent Kartheiser, Peter Wingfield, Hayden Christensen, Jorgito Vargas Jr., Natalie Portman, Jonathan Brandis, Heath Ledger, and Lisa Ryder Movies: Star Wars (all of them), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Tuck Everlasting, X-Men, Goonies, Footloose, Harry Potter, Neverending Story, Subspecies, and Casper ...for starters Books: Harry Potter series, anything by Laurell K. Hamilton or L. J. Smith, Skyborn, and the Wizard of 4th Street series. Music: Rock and Roll - in all it's forms and styles from the 1950s to present day.

...when I hate being right. Grampa passed away about 11:40 last night. He'd been pretty much comatose for the last week and a half in ICU after a seizure and we finally got them to pull the life support and let him go. He would have been saved the last week and a half if the hospital had paid attention to the Do Not Resuscitate bracelet he was wearing. Uncle was visiting him in the hospital helping get Gramps ready for a procedure when Gramps had his stroke and coded. The staff turned to Uncle and asked if they should resuscitate or not, big misunderstanding between him and the staff later (he thought they were confirming he HAD a DNR), they revived him and have kept him on the life support since. The doctor that's been in charge of Gramps case talked to dad and uncle last night when we were in the hospital trying to find out what was going on (they'd taken some brain scans Wednesday before Thanksgiving and still hadn't gotten back to us on the results) about pulling the life support - dad and uncle both agreed yes, do it, let him go. Doctor tried telling the nurse that they weren't really sure and she should suggest that we all go home last night, get a good night's sleep, and come back in the morning to talk with one of the professional consultants. We all put our collective feet down and said no, we're doing this tonight, it's gone on long enough. So they pulled the life support and let us back with him and a couple hours later, he quietly died.

If I get through this year without attending my grandfather's funeral it will be a miracle of epic proportions.
If I get through Thanksgiving without attending grampa's funeral I'll probably be surprised.
Uncle went to take gramps to the hospital in town here (instead of the local one by where they are) and had to take him to the local one anyways cuz gramps collapsed getting to the car. The plan after that was to get gramps stabilized out there and then have him transfered into town here tonight/morning. That got changed to gramps being transfered to larger town just north of us cuz gramps' kidneys are shutting down on him.
He's past 70, he's been fighting pneumonia off and on for probably a decade, he's been fighting a staff infection on his foot off and on for years, he's a die hard smoker who refuses to quit no matter how much it effects his breathing, and his health's been on a decline for the past couple months.
Yeah, I really want to believe that he'll snap back with a couple moderately "easy fixes" and be back on his feet again by the end of the year. But I really don't think that's going to happen this time around - not if the hospital's right and his kidneys are shutting down on him. Just...yeah. This ain't gonna be fun.

I have an aunt out west that's dangerously close to being disowned.
Eldest aunt is in the hospital dying and second youngest aunt decides yesterday to send an email to the family about her (second youngest aunt's) 50th bday coming up in September. The email basically said that she knew it wasn't the best time but she'd had this in the works for a few weeks and wanted to let everyone know that she's chartering a cruise for her bday and wanted to let everyone know so they'd have time to plan properly. The cruise leaves from California (the rest of the family's on the opposite coast - Michigan and Pennsylvania mostly with us in GA)... it's just... yeah.
Just the way she worded the email, was like "look at me, look at me. see all the fun stuff I'm doing with all this money and favors I have. Forget everyone else and look at me"
Not sure how much more of her shit me and mom can really put up with before the bitca get herself written off the family list.

I have a very sick feeling I'm going to be attending a funeral before too much longer.
We got called last week that my mom's older sister was in the hospital and that they found a couple blood clots (one in her lung and the other her leg (I think it was the leg)). Earlier this week we got a call from mom's sister-in-law that aunt was still in the ICU and that the clot in her lung was larger and more dangerous than they first thought and that - on top of all that - the cancer that she had (and beat) 35 years ago had come back.
About an hour ago mom got a call from one of her younger sisters saying that older sister had coded earlier that morning and they managed to revive her.
Needless to say mom and I aren't in a very good head space right now and dad's not too far behind. If I suddenly disappear for a while you guys know what's going on - I'm not ignoring you I just either can't get to an Internet connection or I'm too completely fried to think straight.

I really wish I had a better camera right now that was seriously capable of good night vision shots cuz we've got an awesome view of the lunar eclipse going on right now.
