Sam's first kiss was to Burnin' For You. Jess' lips were soft and curved into a smirk at the music choice, and all Sam could think of was Dean.
He loved Jess, he really did. But that song made him think of Dean, of the night he tried to kiss his brother and got shot down, and the next day when he left. He hadn't said goodbye.
But years had passed since both that night and since he was on that first awkward date with Jess, and now it was the first time he'd heard Blue Oyster Cult since then.
"Dean, turn that off..."
"No way, Sammy." Dean turned the music up, grinning, obviously thinking they were joking around. Sam tried not to growl, and he leaned forward and turned the radio off entirely.
"Dude, what the fuck?"
Sam flushed a little and hugged himself. "Don't play that song."
Dean frowned a little, then pulled over to the side of the road. It was dark out in the middle of a Kansas corn field, and they hadn't seen any other cars for miles and miles.
They were quiet for a few moments.
"What's wrong with you?" Dean asked finally, breaking the silence, and Sam winced a little at it.
Sam expected himself to say something about Jess. He expected to tell Dean that it was none of his business. He definitely didn't expect what actually came out of his mouth.
"It reminds me of you."
Dean blinked. "It what?"
Sam sighed. It was out now. "You. That night before I left." He saw Dean turn away from the corner of his eye. "Dean, it's okay...I know you never wanted me-"
"You don't know a damn thing," Dean said irritably, gripping the wheel hard enough to turn his knuckles white. Sam frowned and looked at him fully.
"I tried to kiss you..."
"You're my brother."
"I don't care!" Sam's voice was loud in the night. "I don't care and I never have. If I'd cared, I wouldn't have tried."
Dean looked at him, surprised. "Sammy..."
"No. No, Dean. Drop it, okay?"
Dean didn't drop it. He did slide across the seat and grab Sam into a deep but surprisingly gentle kiss.
Sam's eyes went wide, and he couldn't move for a moment. Then Dean did something with his lips and Sam just melted against him, kissing him back just as deeply.
It broke after a few moments, and Sam grinned at his brother.
"Turn the music on," he said softly, "and get us to a motel quick."
Dean chuckled as he complied.
