Recently downloaded seasons 1 and 2 of Andromeda. I love it MORE than I did in me youth *snerk*! My god, Tyr slashes with everything around. Sad that the Sorbo is...at best okay good-looking and only slightly abrasive, because the homo between those two is off the charts, self-conscious bone-throwing to the slash community on the part of beloved authors.
Considering, then, what they're doing with KHC in "Noah's Arc" compared to back in the dreadlocked day... Well, it makes me cry. I sure hope Baby Jesus is with me on this one.

the more I think about it, the more I realize that Dylan Hunt, a.k.a. the Sorbo, is the Lana Lang of Andromeda. he is continuously exalted by most of the characters on the series, for no apparent reason. we are told he is a hero, but not shown why. he defeats all the enemies he comes across, this is true. but from what I glean, most of those enemies happen to be remarkably stupid...and seeing as a lot of them are nietzscheans, the supposed superior branch of humanity, the stupidity is even more of a glaring flaw on the writers' part than their usual ones. the Sorbo's opponents basically reveal their plans and stand still while he shoots them. am I supposed to be impressed? for those times his enemies aren't idiots, his other great asset comes in handy--the unbelievably powerful warship that he happens to have. Rommie basically does all his thinking and fighting for him...why, then, am I supposed to view him as an exemplary human being? the way to make good TV, or any good entertainment, is to show, not tell. so far, I have been shown very few reasons not to hate the Sorbo, and it is making my attempts to watch Andromeda increasingly difficult. I feel exactly the same during Smallville. I could deal with both shows--enjoy them, even--if they didn't have these two major glitches. I do not want to be told I should admire someone just BECAUSE--it's the quickest road to resentment. oh, and another thing--every female the Sorbo comes across wants to fuck him. usually does. WHY? this particular recurring event stinks of contrived writing. even if this were just a matter of personal preference, MY error in judgement, the fact that the Sorbo gets laid thrice as much as Tyr, a veritable sexual god, is inexplicable. even if I were crazy enough to think the Sorbo was cute--attractive, even--I would not be crazy enough to elevate him above Tyr. this is a glaring impossibility in the Drom universe, in my eyes. unless there was an episode I missed wherein they explained that every woman in the 'verse is, indeed, stoned on something. at least Lana is good-looking enough to lend some credibility to her endless stalker scenarios. in conclusion, if they just killed off the Sorbo, or at least decreased his screen time...or at least, decreased the screen time wherein he wins just by virtue of being The Main Character...or at least the screen time wherein everybody is singing his praises...I would really, really love this show.

"Name of the Rose" starring Sean Connery is a movie about two factions of monks--the Benedictines and the Franciscans...there's little sex, and everyone wears big-ass cloaks. but there are also major gay undercurrents. in a frickin' monastery! these people deserve and award.
not to mention the awesomeness of the movie on its own terms. and christian slater's cheekbones...and lots of crazy old bald men. so watch it, mmkay?
on a side note, sean connery sounds ominously like patrick stewart. they both have that plummy sorta-scottish inflection going on.

recently watched "The Road to El Dorado", sans teeny bit at the beginning. nothing too original, borrowing heavily from the Lion King and Pocahontas in terms of visuals. which would be fine, if there were moments of shine aside from the golden pillars strewn everywhere. however, they characterized nearly everybody in the movie horribly. the supposed villan, for example, didn't actually do any villainous things up until he discovered that Tulio and Miguel were shams. and yet, there seemed to be this great animosity towards him on the part of...everyone. if producers want us to be sympathetic and unsympathetic of certain people, couldn't they have provided a bit more reasoning for it? anyway, the plot was rather muddy and the emotions clicheed. but...
TOTALLY made with the hoyay. the two leads were so in love with each other, and when one of them started banging a local chick (by the way, why did they only show us only one young, eligible female in a whole friggin civilization? ), the feelings of betrayal were...well, all signs pointed to 'shunned lover' and 'guilty lover'. also, there were constant effeminate visuals and actions on the part of the leads that made them seem short of butch, and intentionally so. plus, the elton john in the background was not unconvincing. sure, Tulio hooked up with the lady and now the three of them are travelling together. but I could totally see her getting frustrated and leaving in a huff because she felt she was intruding on their sacred love sometime later in their lives. the characters gave me that impression. overall the movie was not bad, but not spectacular. I was only watching for one thing.

I had a funny dream. I was watching smallville, and it was REALLY REALLY gay. there was no lana, either. what happened was that clark was sitting by the barn, next to some other unrecognizable guy. then lex came and sat behind clark and licked his neck. or clark licked lex's skull. something like that. and they kept hugging each other and being all dirty in the sunlight. arms just kind of falling over each other and smiling to each other in a conspiratorial fashion. it was pretty hot.
then I woke up.

the slashiest-behaved characters are, by and by, from shitty shows. actually, there are just a lot of shitty shows in general. anyway, a lot of people actually put thought into slash...it becomes well-constructed and tittilating and exciting in a way that the actual show itself fails to be. and this depresses me. eventually, I stop being able to watch the show. it is deconstructing before my eyes and I can't even stick around for the pretty boys because I love it too much to let it be that shitty. but it always will.
so far, it makes me extremely sad to watch Andromeda and Smallville. I fear Dead Zone will fall into that pile. in fact, very rarely do I any TV that can be slashed. plot-driven shows too easily fall into the shit pit.
how the FUCK am I ever gonna find me some appropriate TV porn, then?
