Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
So I wasn't planning to do this until closer to open beta, but there have been some very vague hints that having a list of people eager to move to Dreamwidth gets you a better chance at getting closed-beta invite codes, so just in case, haves a poall:

Poll #456
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

If I had Dreamwidth invite codes, would you want one?

View Answers

OMG YES! I'm ALL OVER THAT.
9 (45.0%)

I have a DW account already!
4 (20.0%)

I'm planning to buy an account when open beta starts.
6 (30.0%)

Mostly just to namesquat.
1 (5.0%)

I'm going to be active there, even if I don't move.
2 (10.0%)

I'm planning to move there, at least partly.
5 (25.0%)

Maybe? I'd like to see if it's worth it.
7 (35.0%)

Don't bother.
1 (5.0%)

DW sucks. Shut up about it already.
0 (0.0%)

What's Dreamwidth?
0 (0.0%)

Dreamwidth kills tickyboxes.
3 (15.0%)

ticky + Dreamwidth = OTP
9 (45.0%)

(Dreamwidth invite codes will be assigned to users according to arcane rituals determined by how well your last set of invite codes were used. So answer all poll questions that apply to you. Honestly, pls!)

(If you don't have a JF account/I don't know you by your jf, feel free to answer in comments, w/an e-mail in case I need to get back to you. Anon comments will be screened.)

(There are no guarantees I'll have any invite codes to give out before open beta.)

For me it's all a matter of who moves, and so far, I haven't seen a single person on my flist except you show any interest in it at all. I do more religious-oriented stuff on LJ than fannish, and if the religious people stay, so will I, probably.

Yeah, the DW meme is only slowly moving out of the fandom/tech geek communities, so it will probably be awhile (if ever) before the more general-interest stuff starts moving, though a little of that is happening already. And there are a *lot* of non-fannish communities starting up on DW, started by fans; I wouldn't be suprised if whole new communities of religious-oriented people start up on DW pretty quickly. with the benefit that all the stupid and annoying people will have stayed on lj.

Oh, I wish that strikeout part were true. However, entirely too much of the fannish discussion of Paganism tends to be of the Neo-Wiccan "OMG WE'RE MORE AINSHUNT THAN DIRT AND XTIANS STOLE OUR SHIT" variety, which is full of stupid. For instance, I looked at the IJ comms at one point, and what I saw was Myspace/Facebook-type level posts-- that may have changed, I don't know, but that's what was up at one point. Don't know what the Christian comms might be like, they might be better. I enjoy the more scholarly posters on LJ, most of them aren't fannish. I remember when Strikethrough got mentioned on NFP (or was it dot_pagan_snark?), and the reaction was a lot of skepticism.

That, and looking at my LJ flist, only one person has a desire to check out DW, and she doesn't say she's actually moving. The rest don't even seem to know it's there.

*shrug* It's one more thing to pay for at a time when I can't pay for a lot of excess stuff. If it turns into a mass migration, I may have to rethink this, but for now, I'm staying on LJ.

I should do a similar poll, so I can figure out how I'll do my xposting. If I can get all or most of my JF/IJ friends to at least use an OpenID flist on DW, I'll stop xposting, and it will be very yay. (I harbor no hopes of that happening on LJ, though.)

That would be yay! I honestly have no idea how much of JF is going to move; I know a lot of hp-IJ people have been acting skeptical about it, though.

I get the vibe that the majority of both my flists are either moving, or know enough moving people that they'll be open to regularly checking an openID flist there? But I want to know for sure, hence polls. :D My IJ flist is not very HP, rather multi or non-fannish with a slight skew in favor of DW (... that's Doctor Who there).

I was gonna go with Ishmael originally, but chickened out on account of having not read Moby Dick. But I love the name Benedict, and I use that on IJ, as well as it being the name of possibly my favourite city of heroes character. /nerd

Thank you so much!

Make new friends! Everybody is trying to find new people and make news starts over there. There are BNFs who never friend back on LJ who are just subscribing to anyone they can find!

I will keep you in mind, anyway.

I <3 embrassingly fandomy people, so totally - I'll be either linking from the primary account to the history account or cross-posting. Fandom is where all my friends are! :)

So one of the tickyboxes I checked kind of contradicts the other two, but that's how I roll.

I think I'd be more excited about Dreamwidth if I weren't in the process of really truly becoming a reclusive antisocial shut-in. As it is, I'll probably buy an account, since I support the idea, then keep on posting/contributing nothing.

Either that, or DW will be a huge fannish blood infusion and I'll go back to the hyperactive fannish habits of my youth, only with significantly better spelling, grammar, and social skills.

Oh, I hear on on the reclucsive anti-social shut-in. DW actually *has* given me a blood infusion, (at least relative to where I've been lately) but who knows if it'll last.

Anyway, DW will at least let you lurk better! (public posts from any lj-type site on your DW flist, unlimited RSS feeds even for free accounts....)

One of my friends on LJ is considering DreamWidth, and I think the vast majority of people just haven't heard of it.

I'm all excited, and I'd hop on it like white on rice.

Hooray! As more and more people get accounts and start talking about it, hopefully the sphere of awareness will also grow. (I've been amazed by how many of my friends are already interested, actually.)

I hadn't heard of it until fairly recently, don't have OpenID set up yet, am not posting much that's interesting right now, and am graduating from college on May 3rd, so I will be really busy until it's in open beta anyway. So while I support it and all, I'm not going to go begging for a code, and voted for completeness' sake. ...And, of course, I like tickyboxes.

Well, good luck with college! (I hope DW doesn't actually kill tickyboxes. But if they put in better poll functionality, we might stop needing them.)

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]melannen

VIVA TICKY!

They'll have the tickybox poll question option, but if I recall, the reason "ticky" became traditional in lj polls was in order to track the number of people who saw the poll - since there's no other good way. DW is hoping to actually make poll statistics much easier to work with, so maybe it'll do the things that tickyboxes do. (But tickybox will still live! It must!)
