Nota Bene In Vacuo
In re rumors I have been hearing about [info]unfunnybusiness:

1. There are two active moderators at UFB, and only one of them is [info]pyratejenni.

2. Nobody has *ever* contacted the other moderator with a complaint about PJ's moderation at UFB.

3. There are currently exactly two accounts banned at UFB; one was a blatant troll and one was that annoying guy with the tea icon (He got a permaban mostly for trying to cheat his way out of a temporary ban.) They were joint (and very satisfying) decisions.

4. In the year since the new, clearer moderation policy was posted, nobody else has been banned for more than a one-week cooldown, and there have been very few bans total. (If this statement is wrong, *please* correct me.)

5. If you want to see something at UFB change, you probably want at least one moderator on your side.1 Insulting one of them while assuming the other is either nonexistent or irrelevant is probably not a good strategy.

6. As far as I am aware, everybody who has ever followed the policy for contacting moderators that is in the community userinfo has gone away satisfied. Failing to read or follow the userinfo is also probably a bad strategy if you want to be heard.

(This is not me speaking officially, btw, as officially, I have never been given a complaint. This is me speaking as somebody who is darkly amused by people's consistent inability to at least complain *accurately* or *usefully* when they complain, since I run across someone whining that UFB is ground under PJ's iron boot at least once a month.)

1Technically, in fact, the other mod is the community owner and could lock everyone else out if she felt like it, so if you have an irrational grudge against PJ, your best bet is probably bribery. I happen to know that she would currently do just about anything for a Doble Model E steam automobile.

Err... did pathology_doc even post on the first link there? I looked over that post three times and couldn't find what she was talking about. And I'm just going to go play WoW and pretend that 9/11 thread doesn't exist.

(I really, really dislike PJ, but that support request was a whole lot of nuts IMO.)

oh... oh Ecchan. I didn't look at the link until I saw your comment. She's my friend, I should talk with her.

If I was going to ban anyone ATM, it would be pathology_doc, but I haven't had time to keep up with all the threads lately, and none of ones I've seen have featured him being persistently aggressive against other members or clearly deliberately trolling. We don't ban people on UFB just for being wrong and annoying (even as deeply, deeply wrong as he is) or I would probably be permabanned.

PJ's mod style is very different than mine (so if someone /did/ e-mail both of us per the userinfo about PJ being arbitrary or biased in a particular case, there's a reasonable chance I would side with them & we'd end up with a compromise), but she's better at actually *doing* stuff than I am hence puts in most of the work, and she's agreed to use a lighter touch on UFB than she does elsewhere, so I am perfectly fine with the way she's been doing things.

You and three-quarters of the members. *beams*

So, rumours about PJ sucking out the nourishing lifeblood of infants to gain the power to lift her banhammer might be a little exaggerated?

I actually have no idea! She and I pretty much only communicate when moderation issues come up that need one of us to mediate for the other, and as nobody's actually shown me a specific complaint, I have no idea what she's been up to! She could be!

(If someone complained "Pyratejenni is arbitrary and powerhungry and the other mod should do something about her" I would probably feel more obligated to at least pay a little bit of attention.)

If someone complains I'm arbitrary and powerhungry and the other mod should do something about her, I want to know what drugs they're on and why they're not sharing. No one's been even tempbanned in months. The last thing I remember warning anyone about was not to post links that mention coffeeandink's real name.

As far as ecchan is concerned... the JF support board isn't the place to carry out grudges.

I didn't think you had been - I suspect someone would have actually complained through e-mail if their complaints had any basis in reality.

Huh. Unlike that linkspam community, they don't just take one person's word for it. Good for them having more of a spine than elfwreck.

...annoying people aren't a system glitch that needs to be fixed? Good thing I found that out before I finished my bug report about [info]dana.

Points for creativity, I guess, but wow that's passive-aggressive.

Oh goodness, excuse me. I meant the support request, of course.
