Radcliffe favourite to be next Dr Who.

Okay, totally not official in anyway, it's just some dude laying odds.... BUT.

Dude, can you imagine the wanksplosion that would ensue if HP and DW crossed the streams?
24th-Aug-2007 01:41 pm - fannish five and stuff
[info]fannish5: What are your five favorite canonical friendships?

1. Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Harry Potter. I loved that they stayed such good friends (with occasional roadbumps!) through everything, into adulthood.
2. Harry and Murphy in the Harry Dresden books. I know, I know, there's the whole major UST issue (and yes, sometimes I wanna slap them both and lock them inna room* till they screw like monkeys), but I do really love their friendship, and how it's grown from 'slightly mistrusful professional relationship' to 'would totally die for each other friends' over the years.
3. Willow and Xander (and Buffy!) from BtVS. Once again, childhood friendships surviving into adulthood. None of my childhood friendships made the adulthood cut, so I guess I'm fascinated by those that do.
4. Mal and Zoe (more Whedon!). A real friendship between a strong, hot man and a strong, hot woman where they really really genuinely don't want to fuck (each other)? Did that actually happen on TV? How did that make pas-- oh, right.
5. Legolas and Gimli in LotR. Love, love, love the 'opposites attract' friendship. And --spoilers for the books!-- they sailed into the West together! OMGTRUFRIENZ.

*This trope is the closest thing to a 'bulletproof kink' I have. Man, just lock two characters who are secretly (or not so secretly) hot for each other inna room (preferably with a limited supply of air--ups the danger level!) and I'm good. Cliche? Totally. Me? Totally don't care.

Other stuff... That Guy I Don't Like. Yeah, I usually don't like him, either.

I would KICK ASS if this game existed. All I do when I open photoshop is play around with effects and shit. Sweet Flare!

How to hem jeans and keep the original hem. God, it makes so much sense!
19th-Aug-2007 12:42 pm - Very Important Poll in my IJ
My polls, let me show you them: POLL!!
18th-Aug-2007 11:15 pm - books n' stuff
Oh, I need more icons. Must get on that immediately.

I've been struggling with 'what to read' syndrome. I'd bought the first book in Neal Stephenson's Baroque cycle, but it just isn't grabbing me right now. I'll try again later, as Cryptonomicon was one of my faves of the nineties.

So I'm going back to an old, *ahem*, habit. See... my deep dark secret is, ah, in high school? When I was fourteen or so? I ADORED spy novels. Give me anything by Frederick Forsyth or Ken Follett and I'd be happy. Ludlum I found slow moving and boring--but I love the Bourne movies!

Ha. So I picked up a used copy of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and a Robert Littell book. A little espionage might be just what I'm looking for.

I also would LOVE to rewatch the 80s BBC Smiley series(es) with Alec Guinness. Alas, not the sort of thing the local Blockbuster carries, and I'm not sure I want to spend 60 bucks to see if it's as good as I remember. *sighs*

I've been TERRIBLE about updating at goodreads. Oy. I'm also very tempted by LibraryThing.

And OMFG Liz and Granthony are totally going to HAVE SEX, and now I have that image in my mind FOREVER. *gags*
14th-Aug-2007 12:20 pm - ergh [lj fuckwits]
so LJ (attempts to) clarify (yet again) their policy, but still can't get their staffers to stop equating fanart with child pornography, something I find incredibly insulting and hurtful. The clarification post (and reinstating of at least one of the banned artists) does not ease my mind, and I really hope fandom doesn't just say 'okay' and go back to business as usual. This crossposting/multiple flist thing is annoying and time consuming, but I just don't think we can ever trust LJ again.

*sighs* Sometimes I just want to quit it all. It's not like I've produced much fannish content in the past year. I'm not a fanartist. I never would've looked at the two pieces of art in question, as I'm not into either pairing, plus I don't even *like* explicit fanart. I feel like that dude in "Clerks": I'm not even supposed to BE here!

But I am. By virtue of being in fandom, this matters to me. When an LJ staffer calls fanart 'child pornography', she's calling fandom child pornographers. And that is offensive. It actually turns my stomach. Is LJ so clueless that they cannot see how offensive that is? Equating a (admittedly strange, especially seen from the outside) group of mainly female fans who just want to connect with each other and squee and discuss and bitch and--this is the important bit--imagine together, equating US, in other words, with child pornographers, child molesters, online predators is highly offensive.

And yes, I bring up the gender stats on our little corner of fandom again. Why? Because the statistics on real child molesters (not imagined, phantom ones like LJ seems to be chasing right now) show that they are OVERWHELMINGLY male. Over 90% male, in fact. While the fic and art producing part of fandom is largely female. If I had to guess, I'd say 80 to 90% female. (Does anyone have any hard numbers?)

This doesn't mean there aren't exceptions to both groups, of course. I'm just sayin', it seems a little odd they're picking on us, of all groups.

And of course, LJ is down (or at least, I haven't been able to get on for the past hour), so I can't hit 'refresh' constantly and get more mad. Haha.

11th-Aug-2007 02:24 pm - a quick intro to reading your flist in google reader
A *very* quick n' dirty look at what your flist would look like in google reader (or bloglines, or another aggregator, they're all pretty similar!).

Your subscriptions can be sorted into folders/tags. Here I've got three example subscriptions from GJ, IJ, and JF all in one folder: subscriptions list )

See that 'add subscription' link? click it, and put in the url of whatever journal you want to subscribe to. Then you can put that subscription into a folder, rename it if you want (very handy for those journals that have mysterious titles!).

Click on a folder to view all the subscriptions in a list (a la your flist--you can sort by newest to oldest or vice versa, or alphabetically. You can also view individual feeds by clicking on their names, and they can be viewed by newest to oldest or vice versa).

Here's the expanded view, which shows you the whole entries: expanded view )

And here's the list view, which shows only the title of each entry. Clicking on the title expands the entry in the box. (This is how I prefer to read my subscriptions): list view )

Each entry has a link back to the original post, so you can easily go there to comment. As to flocked posts, I *believe* you can read them so long as you are signed into the journaling service in the same browser. I may have to investigate further.

Drawbacks:

- Cut tags do not seem to translate--so you see the whole entry all at once. Not good when it's spoiler season!
- Don't see icons for each post.

Right now I only read a few non-fannish LJs in reader. I'm thinking I will subscribe to a few of the fannish newsletters and communities on LJ that I don't want to lose track of.
11th-Aug-2007 12:26 pm - all crossposting and no play makes memorycharm a dull girl [lj fuckwits]
My immediate plan is to cross post to JF/IJ/LJ, with any NC-17 content going only to IJ (flocked) or JF (public). I've decided to drop GJ from my crosspost of doom because I don't trust them. They've done the permaban thing, they delete icons, and their TOS is reportedly even stricter than LJ's.

So this is most likely my last crosspost to GJ. I will continue to monitor my flist over there, but not as often.

Currently if you'd like to read any of my old 'adult' HP fic, you can find it in my IJ under a flock, or you can find it publicly posted in my JF (memoried, will tag after they update their code which is supposedly going to happen soon...) or on the-archive.net, here. Hopefully my posting these links isn't a TOSable offense.... *g*
10th-Aug-2007 05:36 pm
I'm thinking that I might end up spread between JF (they're going to be awesome when they update their code, which is supposedly happening soon) and IJ (which is pretty darn cool except for the unattractive site schemes, which may change sometime in the future). GJ is just not doing it for me, and LJ pisses me off more and more every day. This crossposting business SUCKS. Why is there no crosspost-enabled client for the Mac?

So. Man says he was just milking the goat. Why does Washington get all the animalfuckers? Note the mention of the horsefucker and the dogfucker at the end of the article. But... how could the dogfucker have been aquitted? His girlfriend FILMED it with her cell phone!
10th-Aug-2007 11:13 am - brush set 3 [brushes, imagepacks, photoshop stuff]
Just moving some select posts over to here, so my IJ has a little bit more than just porn in it...

So I made some time-themed brushes for photoshop.

Also, GIP.  Because when the hand got chopped off, I knew this could be my new fandom.  Severed hands = fandomy goodness!  Just ask Luke and his dad (and Mace Windu, too!), Alex Krycek, Peter Pettigrew, and Lindsey McDonald, to name a few.

9th-Aug-2007 11:11 am - mad men icons [repost from LJ/IJ] [icons, mad men]
Mad Men is a great show on AMC about an early sixties advertising agency that you all should watch. *g* It's got Connor from Angel and Saffron from Firefly, if that persuades you!

I like the show so much, I made icons for it.

Oh, it comes on Thursdays at 10, and repeats at 11 (in case you watch Burn Notice, too--which you should. Ha).
8th-Aug-2007 11:11 am - asoiaf icons and shapes [asoiaf, custom shapes, icons, photoshop stuff]
Just moving some select posts over to here, so my IJ has a little bit more than just porn in it...

I made some ASoIaF icons. I was scanning some old photos in, and decided to just slap the appendix of A Game of Thrones on and scan in the sigils.

Samples:

Here are seven icons (house sigils and words). Winter Is Coming )

Also, because I'm cool like this, I made some Photoshop custom shapes out of all the sigils, so you can make your own icons or headers or whatever. nine custom sigil shapes )
8th-Aug-2007 08:44 am - whoa!
Check this out, I'm [info]memorycharm here! It always bugged me a bit having a name here that was linked to an old, OLD username, not the one most folks know me by... It was so easy! [info]rename_me rules!

25th-Jun-2006 12:33 am
So I am going to update this now. I want to (maybe?) start using this journal, esp. in the light of LJ ... focussing more on the kids? Eh.

Right, so, me. I'm crafty, fannish, and a complete nerd. (No link for that one, you'll just have to take my word on it.)

Craft-wise, I've been working on block printing, and also on improving my drawing skills. I've also been knitting like a fool, but that's nothing new. Socks are my current passion, since they're so small and quick and USEFUL! *g*

Fannish-wise, I (like everyone else in the LJ world, it seems) have been riveted by the msscribe story as told by [info]charlottelennox on [info]bad_penny. Honestly? It's the most interesting/fascinating/bizarre thing I"ve read in the HP fandom in AGES. And yes, I say that as someone who was only an observer. I can't imagine what it would be like to be personally involved, to think you know someone like that, and then to find out it was all a big dumb joke. It's like a fandom Kaycee Nicole dragged out over YEARS.

Anyway, more thoughts will have to wait till later, when I have had less beer. Mmmm.... beeer.
