Is there anyone on my flist who's a paid user who could check this tutorial to see if it still works for you? When I try it with my unpaid sock, I end up with a "Sorry, there was an error" when I try to go back to the Customize page after adding the custom style. I'm not certain if it's a permissions problem or a JF problem in general, and a paid user could help narrow it down.

Greasemonkey fix for the JF doubleslashes bug
You may have noticed since JF's code upgrade, that when following a link to a community post from a memories page (for example, this one), a second slash is inserted in the URL after "community", causing the post to appear to not exist.

Well, until that bug is fixed, I've got a small fix you can use. (Yeah, sure you could edit the URL by hand, but if you're trying to find one post out of several dozen, it's a pain.) Just download this tiny Greasemonkey script, and the URL will automatically correct itself, yay. :)

If for some reason you don't use Firefox, or don't use Greasemonkey, you can use a bookmarklet instead. (It's not automatic like the Greasemonkey script -- you'd have to click it whenever you hit a double-slashed page.) Just copy and paste the code below into the location area of a new bookmark:

javascript:location.pathname=location.pathname.replace(/\/\//,"/");

Icon meme
Via [info]puipui, the icon meme, with a slight variation because I'm lazy:

User pics - we use them, we love them, and love to admire others'. Let's dig a little bit deeper into this...

Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along. Or if you prefer, you can ask me about icons I haven't explained yet.

And now for the icons: )

To Jews and non-Jews alike, I wish a pleasant and happy 5768. A larger post may be coming later when I'm not so frantic, hopefully Saturday night. :)

A quick guide to using Flexible Squares, Journalfen edition
OK, so I really love the S2 layout Flexible Squares, but it's pretty recent LJ code, and JF doesn't have it (yet). So I decided to port it over here -- it's an open-source code, so copying it wasn't the problem -- and adjust as necessary. The hard part was taking out the code for things that JF doesn't have, like ads and the navigation bar, and also tracking down incompatibilities with JF's older version of S2. I also added a few tiny changes for things that bugged me and I'd dealt with on my custom theme back on LJ, like putting the "currents" (mood & music) into a table, fixing a few things on the custom comment page, and giving a few more color options in the menu. But you don't care about all that, you just want to know how to use it yourself, right? :)

Guide and screencaps below the cut )

Sigh. I suppose this is what I get for not checking my joule or LJ profile for a day or so? I should have turned on defriend notifications over there.

I wonder if she'd be ticked if she knew what I'd custom locked was me saying I liked her despite past events or what other people said, I saw her side on a lot of things whether I agreed with them or not, and that I'd never break her lock, despite the temptation of her insane friend saying things that made me jaw-droppingly angry. It's certainly not worth the brain effort of what-if'ing, though.

Heidipology time: Tangles, I'm sorry you're upset with me and can't trust me. But I'm not sorry I made an effort to seek out your point of view and your interpretation of events because I thought you were a better person than portrayed by some. And I'm not sorry I defended you against baseless accusations, or sympathized when you wondered why people you had never personally encountered distrusted you. I'm not sorry I kept your friend's words secret for your sake and will still keep them, or made an effort to avoid upsetting you. I'm only sorry I let your opinions of people influence my opinions of them. Thank you.

Re this thread, thankfully a mouse of lol_meme provides:

screencap of ZR's comments )

It's a shame ZR deleted them when she realized Ethrosdemon was "joking". I understand being embarrassed by falling for the "joke" at that level, but this is trufax hilarious. :)

In return, anyone got a quote or a screencap of the "pirates have taken over" post from before it was locked? My Firefox cache kinda sucks, sadly...

ETA: Goddammit, this post may have gotten me defriended. It's not your fault, sisterelwood, it would have been my flist if anything eventually, or my continued association with F_W or who knows what. And here I was being so good and not "spying" or leaking locked comments, not even those not by the OP, and not even anonymously or elsewhere. (And I'm still not going to, as a point of honor, so there.) Ah well, it's not like I really needed the family stories or other private things, mostly I was in it for the art and the links, and they're public anyhow. And not seeing JF/FW complaints will probably help my mood. Even though I really appreciated seeing the other side of the story for a lot of things... Feh. So much for trying to think the best of people who may or may not deserve it.

ETA2: Got my cache straightened out on my other computer. LOL Pirates!

ETA3: Unlocking this post - if a subject does come in, I think I can handle it. :P

Hello. Still alive.
Seeing as people seem to be making their JFs their regular journals now, I'm just posting to say I am indeed still around. I've just had preparing for vacation, going on vacation, coming back from vacation with Australian Death Flu (not via Australia, sadly, but via an Australian in Canada), and a comicon to deal with, but I do continue to survive. :) I've also had a cousin's wedding shower this weekend, and this week I've got to create a monogram and invitation for my brother's wedding. Aaaaaaaaaa.

(I need to post this to my LJ too, but argh if I don't build up in my brain that I need to write more there. Which of course makes it harder to post when I'm so backed up from the things I haven't written yet...)

Also, someone needs to remind me to glee in public somewhere about getting my major DH predictions right, not that this was all that *hard*, but lol overanalysing Harry Potter.

Also, I'm getting wiki-twitchy. There are Things! That need to be Updated! And I Can't! Aaaaaaaaa some more.

Anyway, I'm also working on a port of Flexible Squares (and my custom style based on it) to JF. Very nearly done! Anyone have any other S2 requests? Has to be public on LJ, mind...

Oh, and since people are doing them there friending memes: consider my shywank posts of memes past to be still open as of now. IOW, if someone new happens by this journal, feel free to friend, I don't bite. Well, not unless *asked*... :)

First of all, I wanted to thank y'all for your birthday wishes last week. I hope you all enjoyed Wiki Sparkle Weekend. :)

Unfortunately I get a little non-communicative when under stress, and it's been a very busy couple of months. (Work things, bridesmaid in my sister's wedding, etc., etc.) But hey, I have time to update my journal!

...and not much to say. Foo.

Oh, I could detail all my family stuff, and I ought to, but now when it comes to it I can't think straight. Damn. Well, I'll get to it eventually.

This week I have banned over 70 spambots from the wiki. I've got a little procedure now:
  1. Check Recent Changes (my wiki bookmark), revert any spam that hasn't been reverted yet, ban the spammer

  2. If no spam, check Statistics, see if the number of registered users has gone up

  3. If so, list all users, copy and paste into this spreadsheet I'm maintaining

  4. Compare the new list to the old list, find the new user(s)

  5. If the new user matches the primary spambot pattern (6-letter random alphanumeric), ban it

  6. If it matches the secondary spambot pattern (more real-sounding name, usually some numbers), look them up on Google, LJ, and JF -- not that there's any point, there's never any results -- and then ban it

  7. Check back in a few hours, see number of users has gone up, repeat

  8. Debate making a bot myself to do this.

Someone (confusingly sounding a bit like a spammer himself) left a note in my last post about this, showing my efforts are not going unnoticed by the general wiki community. (The fact that there is a wiki community and that they notice the FW Wiki is very, very odd.) Yes, there an extension or two that could be added to prevent spambots from creating accounts or editing, but (a) we'd have to upgrade the wiki software and it only just came back from the near dead, and (b) I have no administrative access anyway, that's Hnky's job. Still, it would make my job a lot easier. :)

(Not that it would stop me from checking Recent Changes every few hours, anyway. Sigh, addiction is a strange and sad thing.)

And speaking of strange and sad addictions... AoA Sinister fan!mouse, I finally replied to you, sorry for the delay. Hope you come back and check sometime and we can figure out who you thought I was. :)

Happy Star Wars Day!
Hey, everybody, do you know what day it is?

Why, it's May the fourth!

And do you know what that means? )

Heroes, argh, I do not need a Sylar fixation when I haven't had the time to watch the show yet.
(and it really does not help that I just realized ZQ looks a bit like my future brother-in-law. really really really really not)

Also, eeek, holy cow that's my gif. I should have watermarked it, Y/N?

ETA: I totally need CS now.
