Sorry it's been so quiet on the me front lately: classes and work and game and officer duties for the ADP have really eaten up my life the past few weeks, and mostly I've been de-stressing by playing Odin Sphere and watching Supernatural season one with nekokoban and zinjadu and coramegan (we're almost done!), which doesn't exactly leave much time for LJ-posting. But I am still here!

So, in a fit of nostaligia, I rented the first DVD of Beast Wars: Transformers. This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, one of the few that I can remember tuning in for every single day, religiously, right up there with Gargoyles and Sailor Moon. I remember I got into it at first less because of the robots (I had never even heard of Transformers) and more because they all turned into animals (which is what I was into before I discovered fandom, and in a lot of ways I still am). And I wanted to give it a look again, and see how I felt about it now.

Well... it's very very 90s... a lot of the dialogue sounds cheesy or clunky or both... and the animation has not aged well, to put it nicely. And yet? God help me, I still love this show. I love that it has a plot that's ongoing and everything's not all neatly resolved by the end of each episode; I love that there's ambiguity to a lot of the characters (I was wondering if I'd ♥ Dinobot any less after all these years, and the answer is no); I love that I'm old enough now to properly recognize badtouch when I see it (holy crap, Taratulas, YOU'RE NOT OKAY). This is the first series I ever wrote fic for (in my defense, I was 11) and so it's got a special place in my geeky little heart, crappy animation and all. Need disc two now.

...Also, apparently my favorite character is voiced by Fujiwara Keiji in the Japanese dub of the series I MUST HEAR THIS NOW ZOMFG

oh my God, I have missed this group so much. :) Have groceries. Am full of sushi. Have sun chips and a coke zero. Miss home right now, but I know that'll get easier. Know that I'll be tempted to stress out about various and sundry things as the year goes by, but I really am going to do my best not to, cos I have so much to be happy about and grateful for right now.

This is always the hardest part. Once I get back to Seattle and get settled and get involved in doing things, I'll be fine, but the anticipation, the tension before leaving -- that's killer. I know I'll be fine, I'll still miss my family but we'll still be in contact, and I'll be really glad to see all my friends back up north, but, still. I hate good-byes. :-/

At least I have a lot of good things to look forward to. :) Sushi and sculpey and game and seeing everyone and more game and seeing everyone... also, my dad's gonna come up and visit during the first weekend in October, so that'll be interesting.

Also, I finished Heroes! ...anyone in Seattle have a TV I can watch season 2 on?

EDIT: You know what makes me feel loads better? The fact that this fall FOX is debuting a new series called the Sarah Connor Chronicles in which the Terminator is played by Summer Glau. No, I'm not making this up.

What the hey, here's a meme I've seen floating around.

Here's the problem with LJ (or in this case, IJ): we all think that we're so close, but we really know nothing about each other. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.

Can I add 'people who quit without any notice' to my list of MAJOR pet peeves? Please? One of the other women who works here just up and left without any notice at all, which is why I'm here at work on a Thursday afternoon when I would normally have this time off. In my jeans and Tevas, no less, since I didn't know I was gonna be here until about an hour or so ago, so I can't exactly work out... Rarr.

So! In an effort to stay positive, here are some things that have made me happy lately...

Real Life

Puppy!

Before I got called into to work today, I was spending the day with Kat and her brand new, 8-week-old, as-yet-unnamed-but-we're-rooting-for-Tristan absolute charmer of a tri-color collie pup. He's just darling and fluffy and wee, and him plus a tennis ball = instant entertainment like you wouldn't believe. He spent half the time we were with him absolutely conked out from all the playing he was doing during the other half. I've needed a doggie fix so badly lately! Am dead from cute now.

Also, I love my family very very much, and I will miss them lots when I go back to Seattle, but at the same time... I'm ready to come back. Ready for classes to start, now that's another story...

Heroes

Well, it's finally happened. My dad bought the first season on DVD, and I've been slowly but steadily burning through it. Am up through the first 6 eps, and am determined to finish it before I go back to Seattle. I'm honestly surprised at how much I like it: I was all set not to, but then I wound up totally drawn in.

Hiro is the cutest thing that ever cuted in the history of all things cute ever, and what Japanese I know only allows me to enjoy the cute even more completely. Also, Claire (the cute blond teenage cheerleader) is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters (much to my surprise.) Hayden Penetierre (or however you spell it) is a much better actress than I'd expected. Same goes for a lot of the cast, in fact; the acting and the writing overall has been very geeky and impressive and fun to watch. Also, while I'm thrilled that there's a TV character with my name (shut up! This happens less than you would think, considering how many Jessicas I know) this one is just terrifying. O_O Holy crap.

I'm sure this goes without saying, but no spoilers, please! I've already been spoiled enough just from having niwatorimegami and casaval geek at me. >_>

LOST

More than a year after it's completion, I finally sat down and finished season 2.

Um. It can be season 3 watching time nao plz? According to wikipedia the dvds come out in December, and the 4th season starts in February... not a whole lot of time, but I think I can make it work!

Pokemon Diamond

Shut up, shut up, shut up, and shut up. XD I'm still weak to these games, and since I finished Phoenix Wright 2 and don't have much access to any other kinds of gaming (other than cell phone Tetris, which is addicitng in and of itself >_> ) so I've been spending a LOT of time leveling up my pokemans. Gonna wait on fighting the Elite 4 till I can evolve some of the ones that only evolve when traded, so right now I'm just accumulating a box full of level 50 critters that make me feel all accomplished when I look at them.

I've been spending a lot of time on this site lately, as I've been rather short lately with people to (A) discuss comics with, and (B) discuss feminine issues with, and this site has plenty of opportunity for both. The forums and some of the blogs are particularly interesting. My only beef is that I sent in an application for forum membership almost a week ago, and my account still hasn't been activated... I want to participate, darnit, not just watch. >_>

As much of my time as G-W has eaten, this has eaten even more. My God. It's like IMDB and wikipedia combined. I can start off reading an entry explaining The Xanatos Gambit and be at my desk three hours later reading up on moe. I swear, it's the best link-hopping site for comic/film/lit/TV geeks EVER.

Arts!

Drawing remains my stress relief, my way to pass time, the Thing to Do With My Hands When I Have to Sit Still. Between sketching character designs for <lj user="ratzeo">'s new campaign (which I'll soon be joining!), redesigning the old characters as superheroes, and doing gift drawings for Certain People Who Have Birthdays, I've been very arty-busy lately, and that's a good thing for me to be. I love actually having things I want to draw, instead of aimlessly sketching and hoping for inspiration.

EDIT: How could I forget? Something which makes me obscenely happy is this fandom_wank post, which is chock full of entertaining macros and much goofing off. Beware of giant spiders and isopods while you're there.

Okay, so, I guess there's this draw Supergirl meme that's been around on the Internet ~~for like six months~~ but I only found out about it a few days ago, and thought I'd make a contribution.

Apparently, this is what happens when you draw Supergirl while watching a certain German movie with a techno-soundtrack and a speedy red-headed heroine.

Not exactly a heroic outfit -- more like a superhero jogging suit, but I'm pretty proud of the pose (considering I only had one reference and that reference, obviously, woldn't hold still!)

Additionally, I have some rough sketches of sigelphoenix and zinjadu's characters for our new D&D campaign. I drew these at work yesterday (hence the pink paper) and now subject them for creator approval.

Feedback, as always, is much appreciated. ^^

Lunar eclipse was very pretty. Turns out I actually could see it, despite our house being at the bottom of a canyon surrounded by trees. The moon is now completely covered in red shadow, and I should really get to bed.

First, though, I need to pimp THIS at you. Need to pimp it SO BAD. The London Times Online is putting up for download readings of various children's stories by various British actors, comedians, and other entertainers.

"Jack and the Beanstalk" read by Jack Davenport. "The Snow Queen" by Joanna Lumley. "The Gingerbread Man" by Maureen Lipman. "Sinbad" by Chris Eccleston. And apparently next Sunday we get "Aladdin" read by Tom Baker.

Well? Why aren't you over there yet? Yes, the frequent adverts for the car company that's sponsoring them are rather a pain, but it's well, well worth it.

If I'm gonna be awake, I may as well be entertained...

Gonna start mirroring posts here, as well as at my livejournal and my insanejournal. So, I apologize if you're seeing double-posts. ^^; Hopefully it won't be too much trouble to scroll past 'em.

So, I don't do a lot of pimping, but I realized most of you on my flist probably have never read 's Schlock Mercenary, which to me is a real shame.

Schlock Mercenary is probably one of the longest running daily web-comics out there -- it started in June of 2000, and hasn't missed a single day since -- and more importantly, it's some of the best-written and most entertaining sci-fi I've ever read. Though Taylor's art may not seem like much, he's still got an amazing ability for both visual and verbal storytelling, his comics consistently make me laugh, and his plots are always interesting and intriguing, as well as entertaining. And the improvement in his art since the first strip is staggering.

And did I mention the entire comic is worksafe? So if you need to kill some time at work, or just want something good to read, I highly recommend 'Schlock' -- for all your space mercenary needs.
