My favorite vamipire novel *ever*, Those Who Hunt the Night, has a major (deeply awesome) vampire character who was a monk in mortal life, and is utterly terrified of the day of Judgement. Non-plot spoilers: When they meet him, he's spent the last several *centuries* in the catacombs under Paris, sorting all the scattered bones of the past so that when the dead are resurrected and need to wear their bones again, they might have cause to be grateful to him and speak on his behalf before Christ. (It's my favorite vampire novel for many reasons, but yeah - the scene where they're walking through the catacombs and slowly realize that all the bones are organized in neat piles by size (starting with hundreds of thousands of toe-bones, like sifted beach sand) and then Brother Anthony reveals himself : OMG.) (Influenced by that book, I started plotting that novel - which I will finish one day - where the vampire tries out being a Catholic novice, but then converts to Protestantism because Protestants got to drink the blood straight from the chalice :D ) Post a comment in response: |
