My laugh for today...

http://mediumlarge.wordpress.com/2008/11/12/wednesday-november-12-2008/ for openers.

Second, they were having a Scholastic Book Fair down in the lobby this morning, so I went down to shop for my niece. Among the books there was "A Very Special Snowflake".

I was surprised that it wasn't The Autobiography of Rose Tyler....

Mawwidge...

You know, it is a very comforting thing to have been married so long that you can turn to your loved one, say "Tonto Goldstein", and watch her collapse in a laughing heap because she still knows the context after all these years.

Update for Pratchett fans

Ganked from Mighty God King:

Terry Pratchett: I'm slipping away a bit at a time...and all I can do is watch it happen.

I would not dare to write this without the once despised checker, and you would have your work cut out to read it, believe me. On the other hand - and this is very typical of PCA - when the kind lady who periodically checks me out asked me to name as many animals as I can, I started with the rock hyrax, the nearest living relative to the elephant, and thylacine - the probably extinct Tasmanian marsupial wolf.

That’s the gift or the curse of our little variant. We have problems handling the physical world but can come pretty close to talking our way out of it so you don’t notice. We might have our shirts done up wrong, but might be able to convince you it’s a new style.

On the one hand, it kills me that such a brilliant, witty man should be robbed of his unique gift a bit at a time. On the other, damn I hope I can face my own fate with as much courage and indignation as he's doing now.

Because Doctor Who leads to better roles, they say...

Noticed this on io9.com:

Noel Clarke stars in Doghouse, a/k/a Town Of The Cannibal Women.

And yes, it includes a clip. :)

So filthy, depraved and disgusting that I thought of all of you right away

io9.com ranks The Best SciFi Without Tentacles (NSFW).

And yes, Mrs. Terrific, Agga Ruter is ranked among them. :)

tiger, tiger...

Sunday morning we trekked over to the zoo to see the five baby Amur tigers that had just gone onto public display. We were very fortunate, as the zoo staff had them out on a limited schedule and they were full of rumpus. The tiger manager happened to be out talking to the crowd, and he said that the litter size--two males and three females--was a delightful surprise, but it did cause some access issues because they weren't prepared for this many tigers. The kids and their mother go out from 10-1 every day, and then the father gets to go out solo for a time. He's an old man in tiger terms, and between his accomplishment and Ernest Borgnine's secret to his longevity, it makes me hopeful for a long, productive old age. :)

Miss Terrific got some iPhone pics of the cats:

The Sparkalypse has come

My daughter is reading the Twilight books. She bought the latest one for band camp and has already read it. And she loves it, despite the snarky comments Mrs. Terrific and I have made nonstop.

DEAR JESUS, WHERE DID I GO WRONG????

Born to troubleshoot

I went to get something from the floor vending machine just now. I slipped a dollar into it and made my solution; the machine declined to give me any change. Looking at the notes taped to it, this has been going on for awhile.

Just for fun I gave the money area a good thwack with my fist.

Out came my change.

Yeah.

Yup, that's my daughter all right.

Miss Terrific spent the past week up in South Dakota, working with a church youth group on a Native American reservation (apparently there were several groups up there, each with a specific task; hers was to work on fixing up someone's house). The return trip resulted in a stop in Sunny Omaha; as a result, I was informed that I HAD to stay here the past weekend so I could take her to dinner. So I did.

The group stayed for a church service before clambering back onto the bus and heading for home. MT was not impressed with things, as she noted so snarkily in a text message to me:

OMG! Worst sermon evah at that church! 'Sex is bad.' -rolls eyes-

I'd wonder where she gets it from, but I know better. :)

My snicker for the day

Flea erections on LJ!

Given that I haven't been paying an ounce of attention to the drama, while viewing it in retrospect I was struck by its similarity to Student Council elections in high school.

With about as much impact afterwards, too.
