My mother passed away this morning. She'd had a heart attack a little over a week ago, and in the course of things they discovered she had a leaky aortic valve. Surgery wasn't an option. She went downhill fairly steadily from there.

So I'm watching (god help me) the very first episode of MLP: FiM, and we come across Applejack's sizable family. And heaven help me, I immediately think:
The Clan is about getting it right. The Clan is about being smart loving thinky ponies. The Clan is about being so big, and so interconnected, with so many ponies doing so many things that any member of it looking for an apprenticship or to talk to someone who's Been There can find that pony. And Granny Smith, Clan Matriarch, will by God get it done.
Of course, I noticed that Applejack didn't mention the "bad boy" of the family, her brother Road Apple...
