There are myriad reasons I loathe fanfic.<br /><br />1) It's theft of intellectual property. The characters are not yours whether you want to write about them or not. They do not belong to you.<br /><br />2) It's copyright infringement. Like it or not, it is.<br /><br />3) It's in extremely bad taste. The original author crafted characters and should have the right to do with those characters what he or she wants. The author should not have to put up with a bunch of wannabees co-opting those characters for their own purposes. The author should have the right, even beyond copyright and intellectual property, to decide how his characters behave. As much as you may love them, you don't know them better than the author.<br /><br />4) It's lazy. You want to write? Create your own damn characters. Can't do that?
