Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Wimbledon
Hee! Oh, this brought back memories of my teenage pro tennis groupie days!

It was also lots of fun. But I have to say Dieter was not nearly as slutty as I expected him to be. Otherwise, yeah, I really enjoyed this movie. It was nice to see a rom com from the guy’s perspective (minus one notable Lizzie POV scene). Even Serendipity doesn’t quite do that because it goes back and forth. I thought Paul Bettany did a great job as an athlete, especially when portraying on plagued with doubts.

Because of Winn Dixie

Great dog! Cute and not overly annoying kid. Eva Marie Saint and Cecily Tyson are also pretty good.

Otherwise, meh. Other than the doggie, I was pretty disappointed in this kid flick. Jeff Daniels made me want to bang my head against a wall and everything was so obvious and predictable that the movie really suffers. I’ve heard the book is much better. That said, the starring dog is so good (and OMG patient!!!) that it’s probably worth watching and ignoring the cumbersome non-plot just to watch his antics.

King Corn

I watched this documentary this weekend, and found it to be an entertaining and informative look at the pervasiveness and power of the U.S. corn industry. There’s a lot of humor and light science (including a fun scene in which the documentary makers make their own high fructose corn syrup). It’s not as strident as some politically charged documentaries (i.e., most of Michael Moore’s recent work) but it still makes its point very well. Actually, I think that may be why it makes its point so well.

I am not following the “flat belly” diet, but I do like the water recipe that comes with it:

Sassy Water
2 liters water (about 8 1/2 cups)
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 medium cucumber peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium lemon thinly sliced
12 small spearmint leaves

Combine ingredients and let it stand in fridge overnight. Drink all water the next day.

ETA: The Cornwall Cam has some really pretty pics up today.
