Cat, 60 Minutes, Weekend Movies & Reality TV Roundup [Jan. 7th, 2008|11:44 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , ]

I have a pair of jeans with a drawstring that I’ve worn many times. Guess cat didn’t notice them until this morning when I was getting dressed. He took one look, thought TOY!!! and was on his hind legs batting at my drawstrings in the blink of an eye. I couldn’t tell him to get down. All I could do was laugh. It was a fun start to Monday morning.

Okay, reality check here - was it just me, or did Andy Rooney come off sounding like he was trying to get away with being a racist prick by tossing out a bunch of names, including his own (and note to Mr. Rooney -- I think both our Presidents named Andrew sometimes went by “Andy”), to obscure the fact that he can’t envision a person with a (non white anglo-saxon protestant) name such as Barack Obama as President? If it’s not just me and that’s really what he was doing, I hope someone calls him out on it.

Is it wrong that I kind of wanted to punch Mr. Rooney in the face last night?

Reality TV Roundup:

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted about what I’ve been watching. Might as well play catchup! Some of this concerns my reactions to a few shows that have been over for a while.

Survivor China )

ANTM and AMSM )

The Amazing Race )

I almost got worked up last night over having too many shows to watch, then I realized Food Network was going to repeat ICA, so I could watch Battali and Jamie Oliver probably 15 times or more over the next week, so I gleefully settled in for the two hour cheesefest that was

American Gladiators )

Project Runway )

I think this is long enough for now. I still need to write my review of Princess Tutu and a course by course review of the meal [info]peach1250 and I had at Abacus, but I’ll save those til tomorrow.

ETA a Quiz swiped from [info]beeej:

86% Hillary Clinton
86% Barack Obama
85% Chris Dodd
83% John Edwards
81% Joe Biden
72% Mike Gravel
71% Bill Richardson
69% Dennis Kucinich
62% Rudy Giuliani
47% John McCain
42% Mitt Romney
42% Tom Tancredo
35% Ron Paul
34% Mike Huckabee
26% Fred Thompson

2008 Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz

Yep, that's quite accurate. Though I consider myself a left-leaning Libertarian, I am exactly torn between Obama and Clinton at this point. Can we have both?

The Amazing Race, Tin Man, America's Most Smartest Model [Dec. 3rd, 2007|10:28 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

Crazy morning! The trains weren’t running to downtown again, so the station was swamped with shuttlebuses, which made all the regular buses late.

America’s Most Smartest Model

Over on TWOP, a poster asked an interesting question – What if we, the viewers, are being punked by this show?

I think it’s a possibility. Actually, no, I think it’s probable that the producers are laughing at or with the audience at how fake and rigged this show is. And they’ve revealed to the audience to some degree how fake it is. When it started, I was under the impression that the contestants were all (or mostly) working models. But we’ve learned that isn’t true. Some of them are. Andre, at least, has a portfolio online and I think another couple of them did, as well. But enough of them aren’t that the name of the show is pretty misleading. So the question is, next week during the finale, are Ben and Mary Alice going to turn to the cameras and say, “Hahahahahahaha! We got you!”

And this week’s America’s Most Smartest Model really left me wondering... )

Veteran's Day, Moonlight, Amazing Race, AMSM, Next Iron Chef, Movies, Heroes [Nov. 12th, 2007|11:26 am]

Happy Veterans’/Remembrance Day and many thanks to all of you who have served your country.

No matter what you think of [info]ginmar’s opinions on some hotbutton issues, you should really read this post. It is short and makes an excellent point.

Because I was so wrapped up in Sims 2, as you can see here (and thank you everyone for your help, advice, and recommendations!), I missed parts of my weekend TV shows and did very little movie watching. Here are my thoughts on what I did watch:

Moonlight, Ringer )

The Amazing Race )

America’s Most Smartest Model )

Next Iron Chef )

I also watched an episode of Iron Chef that had Giada DeLaurentis battling Ray Ray. except not, really... )

Weekend Movies

Okay, I lied when I said I was done with the horror movie genre for a while.

Ghost Ship )

Resident Evil: Apocalypse )

Finally, y’all know Matt is my favorite Heroes character, right? Here’s an interview with Greg Grunberg from Buddy TV.

Movie Polls, New Computer, No Netflix This Week & Why, Amazing Race, AMSM, Next Iron Chef [Nov. 5th, 2007|10:15 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

[info]phantasmrose has a general movie poll here and a poll on women in movies here.

New computer is going to cost me over $2100. I’m in a bit of shock over that. I was hoping for $1,200 - $1,500, which is what I usually pay for computers. But it’s going to have some sort of super special new memory (DDR-3??) and a 19-inch flat panel monitor. So. I dunno. Oh, and there’s something about “Floppy Disk - Not Available Internal” which I guess means I can’t use any of my floppy disks anymore?

I was so enthralled by this movie this weekend that I didn’t want the images and sounds from it replaced in my mind and I therefore didn’t watch any of my Netflix movies this weekend. I guess I will watch them sometime this week. I almost didn’t watch any TV for the same reason. I actually wish it was out on DVD as well as in the theater. Since my co-worker, C, who wanted to see it with me didn’t get to, I think I have a good excuse to go again next Saturday. Oh, and my cubbie-mate, MR, heard us talking about it and announced, “OMG I want to see that movie!” so hopefully she can come with us next Saturday, as well. I am certain every single one of you will have gone to see it by then so we can all talk about it together next week. Right? I intend to continue proselytizing for this movie until everyone on the planet has seen it at least once.

I did watch a little bit of TV, because The Amazing Race started on Sunday.

I don’t want to be at work today. I want to be in a theater, watching Martian Child.

I decided to completely reorganize my kitchen on Saturday and spent Sunday visiting with family, thus I missed most of the squee and wank over Dumbledore’s outing. I think the time for squee has mostly passed, but I’m squeeing, anyway. I think she picked the perfect character, I think the subtext and hints are there throughout the books and I love the way it was tossed out as a such a casual aside, like someone’s sexual orientation really shouldn’t be a big deal. Because it shouldn’t. Plus I love her for stirring up a hornets’ nest. Hee!

Dad and his wife and I went to a party store after lunch at Ozona on Sunday afternoon. I picked up a few fun things to wear on the 31 st . Not a full-fledged costume, though. We also found ... well, it’s hard to describe but they’re props that are plastic and look like shrink wrapped meat from the butcher’s section of the grocery, except they’re severed limbs. And brains. And I wanted to buy some and stick them in the fridge here, but I’m concerned someone would chase me down with the construction guys’ power tools. Plus they were kind of expensive for a Halloween joke.

Imagine my joy when I discovered Slavco from Kept and Ben Stein on the same show. Trashy television simply does not get any better! The show?

I didn’t get to The Life Aquatic, but hopefully will on Tuesday. After that – it’s October. I re-ordered my queue so that I’ve got mostly scary movies coming up (though I do have Princess Mononoke in there somewhere). Next up is Event Horizon which I’ve read here and there is very scary.
