Weekend, Olympics [Aug. 18th, 2008|11:26 am]
[Tags|, , ]

After Friday’s diversions, I ended up totally wrecking my weekend. I didn’t work out on Saturday at all. Spent the day having a headache and kicking and hating myself, instead. Then I ordered one of those new whole-wheat crust pizzas from Pappa John’s. It was not very good. Actually, it was kind of awful. I also ate a brownie. But at least the brownie was good. Then I stayed up until almost 4:00 a.m. watching two Russian women play for the tennis gold medal. Of course, I slept in on Sunday after that, and then couldn’t get to sleep last night. The only good things I did were going to Central Market for some very healthy groceries and cooking up a bunch of chicken breasts. Now I am exhausted, but determined to be good and treat myself well this week to make up for it. I know one weekend won’t wreck my previous hard work, but I’m still mad at myself, especially since I don’t feel good as a result of what I did and didn’t do.

I did watch a little Olympics besides that tennis match. I saw parts of the women’s marathon, the men’s 100 in track (wowza!) and lots of gymnastics last week. Watching Michael Phelps win his eighth gold was exciting. I was very impressed with the whole team on that relay. They were all incredible. And those new suits have changed the sport of swimming forever. I kind of feel like all the new world and olympic records should have asterisks beside them, because it doesn’t seem right to compare the pre-new-suit records to all of those set this year and onward. However, if I never see another beach volleyball match again in my life, that will be fine with me. It seems like every single time I turn the TV on, there is hours of beach volleyball.

Olympics: Opening Ceremonies, Fencing, Beach Volleyball, Men's Gymnastics [Aug. 9th, 2008|08:58 pm]

I think I had better write down a semi-coherent version of my impressions of the Opening Ceremonies before time erodes my memory of them too much, so here goes:

Longer Version of My Impressions of the Opening Ceremonies )

Okay, that taken care of, let's move on to the FASHION SHOW!!!Parade of Nations: )

Fencing )

Beach Volleyball )

Men's Gymnastics )

Back to watching. More later.
Edited to change the wording on the transition from artistic portion of the Opening Ceremonies to the Parade of Nations, because it unfortunately appeared that I considered the artistic portion unpleasant, which is very much untrue. Sorry!

OMG! I have *pages* of notes from the Opening Ceremonies. I'll type them up tomorrow. But for now... OMG!

And now, thanks to the wonder that is the Internet, I am watching Dressage online. Joy! I am slightly concerned I may be up all night.

HGTV Designer Star, Next Food Network Star, Olympics [Jun. 23rd, 2008|12:43 pm]

I have been kind of ill for the past week with some sort of stomach weirdness. Basically, any time I eat I get violently ill soon after. I suppose it could be IBS but I’m not really stressed, which was the source of previous IBS. This happened to coincide with my taking some time off from my diet, but it doesn’t really matter, because no matter what I eat, whether it’s fattening or healthy (with the exception of crackers and cereal), I get sick. I didn’t work out last week because I wasn’t really able to eat much. I don’t seem to be much better today, but I am going to try to work out.

No movies again this weekend. I have 4 sitting at home waiting to be watched, and they’re not bad movies so I don’t know what’s making me not want to watch them. I think they are all comedies. Probably not feeling well was part of it.

I only watched bits and pieces of HGTV Design Star )

I did watch all of Next Food Network Star )

I also watched the Olympic trials for gymnastics both Saturday and Sunday. I better warn y’all, just in case -- I am a total Olympics junkie, so I will pretty much be glued to NBC and its affiliates for the rest of the summer. I will try not to bore you with constant Olympics posting. But just in case I do, and in case I seem to more-or-less disappear, that’s where I am. Apparently there will be constant streaming video online of most sports. I now wish I was taking vacation in August to sit at home and watch it. I am *that* much of an Olympics junkie. Remember that year in the 1990s (96, I think) When there were three extra cable channels you could subscribe to during the Olympics that showed the qualifying rounds for dressage and rhythmic gymnastics? Oh yes I did subscribe, and when I wasn’t sitting in front of the TV watching, I was taping. 24/7. I still have the tapes. So. You are warned!
