Charles Winpenny is back from his holiday in France and has some great pictures up on the Cornwall Cam, including some from his holiday.
Dad, his wife and I went to Margarita Ranch on Sunday and it was very good – nice atmosphere and excellent food and service.
I pulled a muscle while working out on Saturday and it still hurts a lot, especially when I laugh, or breathe, or the cat lies on my stomach and digs his little paw in right where the sore muscle is... Poor D Kitty didn’t get much cuddle time this weekend.
No movies. I think I have all comedies and laughing hurts. Plus I just was not in the mood for them.
The only TV I watched was ( HGTV Design Star )
I’m a little behind, so I’ll use this post to comment briefly on the other shows I watched this week.

thefridayfive 1. If you could change one life-changing event in the life of someone important to you, would you? No. Unless I am the person in question, because then the consequences belong to the person who’s doing the changing. But otherwise, absolutely not. I cannot know every way in which the event affected this person. There may have been positive consequences that outweigh the negatives and I’d be taking those away from them. (Exception: If I knew a kid who made an outcry statement to me that they were being abused, I’d do everything in my power to get them out of that situation, including reporting to CPS, even if the person the kid accused of abusing them was a good friend.)
2. Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years? Your life partner should first and foremost be your best friend, so I don’t see any difference.
3. Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend? Yes.
4. If you had to choose between telling the truth and hurting a friend or lying and making them happy, which would you choose? That depends. If it’s a little white lie I might go with it. If it’s about seeing their husband kissing another woman, I’m going to tell the truth.
5. Which would you rather hear--the truth which will hurt, or the comforting lie? Again, it depends. If it’s a situation I can change (including removing myself from the situation), I need to hear the truth. If it’s that you hate the type of toy I put in your goodie bag, I’d prefer you not tell me.
fannish5 Name five fandoms that you're not (yet) in, but which seem intriguing.
You’d think I’d be all over Supernatural, since it’s horror-genre, but I’ve watched it a few times and it doesn’t work for me. Can’t get into Who or its derivative, either. I tried to watch old Who a few times and the way it’s staged irritates the heck out of me. I don’t really know what else is out there. I’m not really watching scripted TV anymore, at least until Dirty Sexy Money comes back. I could use a book fandom to get into, though. I could use some suggestions. Any ideas, anyone?
My horoscope for today ended ominously:
“...[Today, e]veryone returns to his or her usual wonderful self - though there are no guarantees about the cat.”

I spent most of my holiday trying to stay off of my bum knee, which I re-injured while cleaning off my patio last weekend. It’s all better now, but it’s kept me away from the computer, because sitting at my desk at home seems to aggravate it. I think I need a new chair.
As for this past weekend, while staying off my knee, I watched four movies, all with varying degrees of awfulness. One made me froth with anger, one required frequent fast-forwarding, one put me to sleep and one was intentionally awful and lots of fun.
( Cake )
( Monster-in-Law )
I don’t hate RomComs. Really, I don’t. I just seem to have stuck myself with some of the worst of them lately.
( The Serpant and the Rainbow )
( Not Another Teen Movie )
This past few weeks’ movies have made me seriously think about deleting at least half of the 495 movies on my queue. I’m in the mood for them when I queue them, or I can’t really tell what they’re going to be from their description and then I end up with a pile of Movie Dread rather than something I’m looking forward to and will enjoy. However, the next 25 movies are going to be kidflicks, fantasy and sci-fi effects flicks and a few silly comedies. Hopefully this will put me in a better movie-watching mood.
As for TV, I can sum up my reactions to SYTYCD, HGTV Design Star and Next Food Network Star ( with one sentence: )
I think I am going to watch the trainwreck that is the finale of The Bachelorette tonight, if only because this season has been the Most. Dramatic. Trainwreck. Ever. for that show.
After 6 months, D has finally figured out how to get into the middle, mostly-enclosed section of his Condo. He almost the entire weekend there. He won’t even join me to watch TV. He drops by for 5 minutes of petting then runs back to the Condo. I think perhaps he was trying to avoid the awful movies.

The Cornwall Cam has lots of pretty pictures of flowers today.
I watched one episode of Bleach and half an episode of Death Note this weekend. I couldn’t get into either of them. In their defense I jumped in midstream and had no idea what was going on. Death Note looked like the more interesting of the two, but by then I was tired of trying to figure them out. Maybe I’ll Netflix it.
Speaking of Netflix, I didn’t watch any movies this weekend.
I did watch ( HGTV Design Star ) and
( Next Food Network Star )
At the end of last week I also wrote up and entry on SYTYCD, but after sitting on it for a few days, I realized it was mostly me whining about how awful the female solo dances were and how I was angry about having to watch a dance choreographed to Soft Cell’s Tainted Love ohgodhowIhatethatsong!!!! It was so overplayed during the 80s and it keeps right on being overplayed. Blech!!! and that I was mostly okay with the bottom three and the team that got cut so, meh. But I am enjoying this season, other than having to listen to That Song.

[Jun. 10th, 2008|02:24 pm] |
Sorry I disappeared! Partly due to hormones I felt like retreating inward for a bit. It wasn’t anything bad or unhappy – just some quiet time.
I lost another 1.6 pounds last week. Since I didn’t weigh myself back at the beginning, I don’t know exactly how much total weight I’ve lost. I would guess 30 - 40 pounds, since I’ve lost exactly 20 since mid-April.
Things seem to be slowing down a bit, even though I’m still doing the same thing. Actually, I think it is probably because I am doing the same thing. I’ve been dieting since the second week in January, which makes it six months as of Monday. (I can’t believe it’s been that long!) I think my body, mind and spirit are ready for a break. Thus, starting this Saturday, I’m going to switch to eating maintenance calories for three weeks, which will cover both Father’s Day and the 4t h of July, so that works out nicely. I’ll still be working out and eating mostly healthy, just eating more and not worrying about whether or not I’ve lost weight for 3 weeks.
On to fannish things...

| Cons, SYTYCD, Top Chef |
[May. 29th, 2008|12:08 pm] |
This has not been a good year for cons, has it? I feel really bad for anyone who’s running one these days. One thing that really hit me about the WisCon situation is that I distinctly remember seeing comments following theferret’s little mess that said something to the effect of, “Well, at least Wiscon is safe...” I have a few more thoughts on this, but I’m going to put them in a separate post. I think.
Speaking of cons, there is a big HP con here in Dallas this summer. I’m not attending the actual con, but if any of you are going to be in town and want to meet up, I’d love to see you.
