| 10:58 am | I'm quite proud. I think I've managed step 1 towards giving a friend of mine an insight into the racebending problems of Film!Avatar. Him: "Don't get why people bash it." Me: "Various race issues, whitewashing, etc." Him: "Inuits don't look like they come from central China. Also, whitewashing means nothing IMNSHO." Me: "Actually, they kind of do. *wikipedia link* Yellowface and Blackface don't have a pretty history behind them. *two more links*" Him: "You could have a point there. But there's other stuff [a little derail-y]" Step 2: Try to introduce him to the concept of privilege, which should hopefully start to counteract the derailing. If I do it gently enough without teel dears, he'll listen. As he's NEVER EVER EVER WRONG EVER, arguing is totally pointless. If I can get him to say "you may have a point" again, then I'll have done my job. Quite pleased with the result thus far though, it's much further than I necessarily expected. |
