A crazy tomboy kid who became a depressed teenager, a loner, a nerd who never partied or did drugs. She kept her nose clean, got good grades, went to a good college, did good things. She was miserable. But she was exceedingly good at it. She wished she’d been born ten or fifteen years earlier. Then she could have seen the Clash and the Sex Pistols and crappy local bands when they were actually making music. She would have scared her mother by coming home with ripped clothes and spiked hair. Or to really piss her off, she would have put Quadrophenia on the record player, propped a speaker in the living room window, and laid outside in the grass waiting for love to reign o’er her. Smoked a joint and let herself sink into the ground beneath her, let the music flow through her, let it transport her to another world. But she had missed out on all of that. She was the good girl instead. Years later she imagined herself a poet, but still wished herself a punk rocker. With bright pink hair and a thick ring in her lip. So she wore bright red Chucks and bounced a lot--and that was close enough most days. She figured herself too old for all that angry aggression anyway. After all, she had a mortgage and wanted a baby--and where would that fit into the punk rock lifestyle? So instead of angry song lyrics, she wrote poems. Dripping wet sex poems. And porn. She even tried her hand at serious fiction. And she grew restless. She’d bounce her knee under her desk, unable to focus on work. She needed to move, to scream, to fly. To be unleashed. Passionate about so many things, in livejournal she found passions shared. This might just be the life of that girl. This might be her unleashing.
