Because I am not hurting for money, I try really hard to pay for everything. If possible, I use a link from the artist's web site: they sometimes get a little affiliate fee that way. I wish we had a better system. How many songs total: 9454 How many hours or days of music: 49.8 days Most recently played: Neptune City ~ Death in Venice (The Continuo Sessions) I'm going through unplayed music and adding genres and ratings. This turned out to be Electronic and kinda neat Most played: Bransle Gay, Bransle De Bourgogne ~ John Renbourn (The Lady And The Unicorn) All those years in Medieval Studies and the SCA, I still love the music Most recently added: Turn ~ Travis (The Man Who) matildabj and I were talking about Billy being a Travis fan and she said this was the best Travis song. It's impossible not to sing along :-)
Sort by song title: First Song: Aal Eah ~ Samira Saeid (Putumayo Presents: North African Groove) we listen to a lot of world music, heard this CD in a restaurant and bought it Last Song: 1999 ~ Prince (The Hits / The B-Sides) new itunes sorting -- too singable and prophetic a song to not own alphabetically: Zodiac ~ Laurie Berkner (Victor Vito) Laurie Berkner does very catchy kid music
Sort by time: Shortest Song: 13 seconds Here Come the ABCs ~ They Might Be Giants (Here Come the ABCs) snarkiest group evah Longest Song: 38 minutes Water Music--Horn Suite in F major ~ Christopher Hogwood; Academy Of Ancient Music (Water Music-Suite; The Musick for the Royal Fireworks) We have a lot of classical music too.
Sort by album: First album: Abbey Road - The Beatles Last album: 20th Century Masters - Best of Fairport Convention We ignored disco in the 70s in favor of folk-rock, and still like it Alphabetical: Zion Roots Abyssinia Infinite
First song that comes up on Shuffle: Lord Thomas and Fair Ellend ~ Ula Kapala (Coventina's Well)
Search the following and state how many songs come up: Death - 37 Life - 78 Love - 306 Hate - 8 You - 493 Sex - 9 Christmas - 26 Heart - 86 Candy - 9 Turtle - 1 Wolf - 80 Zebra - 0 Aardvark - 1
Question: what's the difference between Rock, Alternative, Alt-Rock, Alt-Punk and Classic Rock? Where do The Mountain Goats, Patti Smith, and The Decemberists go? For that matter, are the Beatles Pop or Classic Rock or something else? The Proclaimers? Elton John? If there are violins involved, does that make it Pop? Do drums and/or electric guitars signal Rock? I am so lost!
How about Electronica, Trance, Techno, House and Industrial?
What I'd like to do is use bigger categories here, as I don't really care about subtle distinctions, but I don't want to be so wrong as to make people go "huh?" (I do lots of subtle distinctions in Classical and World music categories). |
