Geocities sites will be gone soon [Oct. 11th, 2009|01:17 am] msilverstar Geocities is closing down on the 26 October 2009, and they're going to just delete everything on it. So if anyone has a site there, be sure to save a copy on your local hard drive. I think these parts of fandom history are worth saving! There are several ways to keep the content on the web: Get an account on An Archive of our Own (where fandom owns the servers). It's the Geocities Rescue Project Move to Yahoo Web Hosting ($5 per month for the first year). This at least gives some time. Move to another free site See if it's in the wayback machine in Internet Archive (they have lots of geocities saved) Check with Archiveteam.org (a group of volunteers) which is saving all they can Link Read Comments
