What music improves your mood?
(Public to Est members)

Or, if you like, what music do you play when you're angry or upset?

The music that improves my mood is old school country. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, something with an edge pulls me out of a mood and reminds me of good things in the past. Same with old school rock like the Rolling Stones or Queen.

If I'm angry - which doesn't happen a lot - Elton John that isn't calm and soothing works. Bohemian Rhapsody specifically of Queen's songs works there.

If I'm upset or kind of unsettled I play the piano but it's not anything specific, it's not even a real piece of music, it's this random combination of notes that somehow soothes me.

So anyone else do weird things with music or just have songs that help you calm or feel better?

For a very long time, on two different occasions, I put my instruments away and didn't touch them. But, I've come to find out that even if the heart isn't totally there, the need to play is. My guitar or violin, it doesn't matter. Though when I'm frustrated, the electric guitar gets picked up over the acoustic.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do but put them away, when it hurts too much - sometimes the hurt is physical, others not so much. But yes, sometimes the heart isn't there but the need is.

I can see why - it always sounds so much louder to me. Even if it's not literally true.

It's always amazed me that music can be such a huge part of who we are. There's always a song that fits the emotion regardless of what it is.

*grin* The louder would determine what kind of amp it's plugged into. hehe
