Well, I promised... Fics I am, at least in theory, working on:
Harry Potter 1. HP/SS--Snape requires something from Harry, in the name of the cause; Harry wants something in return. I decided to start this fic from total "ground-zero," that is, taking into account the level of hatred between them after Order of the Phoenix and leaving out any plot-convenient unacknowledged crushes or other devices-- this fic is my challenge to myself to actually write the interaction between two characters, because I got tired of fics where I'm told "and then they had a lot of conversations, and got to liking each other's company," just so the story can jump to the courtship and shagging part. Relationships need a basis of friendship, or at least of general amity, to survive over long periods, and I feel I ought to explore that at least as much as the shagging. 2. HP/SS--The Dark Mark must be removed from Snape, but such dark magic, taken willingly, can never be wholly expunged from the one bound by it. Instead, the Mark must be transferred, and when Dumbledore can't do it, there's only one other choice... Harry Potter. I wanted to do my own take on this plot, because there were quite a few good interpretations on it in the Fest and I want to see if I can meet the high standards of the fics I admired. This fic is still mostly in the planning stages, but I think it's going to be a little darker than most; the idea behind the Mark is essentially one of ownership, of bondage almost in the sense of serfdom, and even Harry isn't powerful enough to change the very nature of Dark magic, no matter his intentions. I really ought to get cracking on this and work out the little kinks... 3. HP/RL--Harry finds out that he's engaged to someone completely awful, and there's no way he's going to go through with it; he has to find a way to break the magical contract between himself and his betrothed--who's not helping any, since she wants her chunk of Harry's money and power. I've never cared much for slash marriage fic, but the idea of arranged marriages has always intrigued me (I rather suspect I have a plot for one brewing in the back of my head), and it seems the sort of thing old-school purebloods would hold on to. This story is going to reflect both of those interests: Harry's engagement is to a woman, and there will most definitely not be any form of wedding at the end! 4. HP/RL--After Voldemort's final end, the pendulum of Wizarding politics swings violently--the Ministry, too late to cash in on Voldemort's demise, instead turns on increasingly vague categories of "enemies," seeking to keep itself in power. Given the extreme hatred Umbridge showed toward "non-humans," and the height of her position in the Ministry, I thought it likely that her biased legislation would not end with her. I want to explore Remus a little, too, especially since we didn't get nearly enough of him in Order of the Phoenix, but we did get tantalising hints of the treatment he most likely receives on a daily basis in the Wizarding world.
Original/Other 1. Untitled--Slash, this story literally burst across my head one day with the character's words and voice. I virtually always write in third person; Mihal demanded that I speak with his voice. I always tell stories in past tense, like history gone; Mihal insisted I live the story with him, as it happened. Taken from a quiet village life, Mihal finds himself exported into concubinage to the neighboring kingdom's Prince. I've debated a lot with myself about this story, but so far I've resisted the urge to give the Prince any voice; it's a challenge to get across anything of his character from Mihal's strongly biased, untrained perspective. As well as being a challenge, this story happens to hit an awful lot of my kinks. :) 2. TPM Sonnet--I only need one more line, theoretically, even though it's looking like I'll have to rewrite the third stanza to get that line. This sonnet was an experiment in mood and tone--a challenge to see whether I could use the same words with vastly different meanings behind them.
The chances of me finishing any of these is exceedingly low, given my sporadic manner of writing and small amount of free time, but they're not dead yet, at least not in my head. |
