08:43 am So, I've given up on NaNo for this year.
I'm a little saddened, because I did feel like I was doing really well compared to normal this year. But last week I decided to leave the lazy and procrastinating Mr. Pish, so I've been spending all my time packing and trying to get my life in order.
Oh, and Wrath of the Lich King. That snuck its way into my time somehow too.
So on Sunday I'll be packing the computer up and Monday will commence the two-day drive from Washington back to Minnesota. It sucks massively, considering I have to leave all the animals behind and don't even get me started on the mess that is my car situation. Yesterday was so crummy I crawled in bed at 6pm and played DS games until I fell asleep.
But hey, new start, right? New job, maybe being able to go back to school, rent-free and grocery-cost-free for as long as I can stand my mom's house, new-and-improved as she may be. And maybe I'll be able to get back to my NaNo project and keep working on it.
( In conclusion, a screenshot! )

01:25 pm - Book meme From tehrin.
1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open the book to page 56. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions. 5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

Rather boring snippet of conversation from a collection of Guy de Maupassant stories, specifically The Convert.

03:00 pm Why the fuck is this in metafandom? And not otf_wank? I mean, aside from it not being particularly funny. That's way more wank than 'discussion'. Or UFB, whatevs. My point, let me get to it: metafandom kinda sucks.

Bit disheartening so far. But hey, it's only been a week, that's okay, right? D:

01:13 pm Tried reading Across the Nightingale Floor last night. At the ten page mark, I wanted to stop. At the twenty, I couldn't take it anymore. From the horrible run-on sentences and comma abuse:
She was strong from endless hard work, and not old: She'd given birth to me before she was seventeen, and when she held me I could see we had the same skin, although in other ways we were not much alike, she having broad, placid features, while mine, I'd been told (for we had no mirrors in the remote mountain village of Mino), were fine, like a hawk's.
To things that just don't make any goddamn sense:
My hand healed slowly, living a silver scar across my right palm. SCARS DO NOT HEAL SILVER. They're red. Like, with blood. And they fade, WITH TIME. Not enough time that was passing in this paragraph.
To just being predictable and boring and cliche. Remote mountain village, bloody massacre, sole survivor, saved by a mysterious stranger, mysterious parentage, wowee! Just in 20 pages!
Bah.

09:44 am ( Photodump time! WoW, animals, people, blah blah blah )
The end. In other news, who's planning on NaNo this year, and what do you think you'll be writing about? I'm again going to put all my postings about that over at toph so, friend there if you're interested, and defriend if you're not. Nice easy way to not bother everyone with it :)

12:14 pm So, my dog is capable of climbing five foot fences and then running eight city blocks before following a maltese mix into someone's house.
Good to know.
Wishlist for new house:
5+ foot fence 7+ foot fence

03:51 pm Swiped from damnedfallacy! I like memes. * Put your music player on random. * Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. * Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from. * Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly. * Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is admitting you have a tiny penis, even if you're a lady.
( Welcome to my poprock world! Some of these will be easy. )

09:36 am Yesterday we drove up to British Columbia to go to the 2008 Abbotsford Air Show. While all of it was entertaining, the real reason we were there was the B-25 bomber "Miss Mitchell".
The B-25 Mitchell was made famous for the Doolittle Raid on Japan, the US's response to Pearl Harbor. This plane in particular, the Miss Mitchell, was in use in Europe. Its pilot earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in August of 1944 while flying it on a bombing raid to destroy bridges in Nazi-occupied Italy. While heavily damaged by anti-aircraft fire, it successfully completed the mission and returned to base.
The restoration of the Miss Mitchell began in 1980 and took its first flight in 1992, exactly 50 years to the day from the Doolittle Raid. It is funded, maintained, and flown by volunteers in the Minnesota Wing Commemorative Air Force. Out of approximately 9000 made, only 34 are flying today.
It was the star of the show yesterday, and two of the three pilots that went up are my dad and stepmom. :) (Actually, they were in the second and third pictures in that first link!)
( On to the pictures! )
The only bad part was the three hour drive home and realizing we were really, really stupid and forgot sunscreen. I keep trying to scratch my forehead only to cry in pain. D:
Oh, here's a video we took of one of the Mitchell passes. Still digging through our others to see what turned out.

09:36 am Mr. Pish's mother is coming to stay with us today. Nobody has thought to told me how long.
I can already tell this visit is going to go well when I'm told I have to put away my decorative wine bottle collection because it'll offend her.
-sigh-
Excuse me while I go find some gratuitous porn to make my desktop pattern, choose this weekend to reread Harry Potter, and find some good mixed drink recipes to make it all bearable. Sex, witchcraft and booze, what a horrible daughter-in-law! Onoz!

unarekin and I have started playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online today. We could use some crew! We have three accounted for, one more possible, but we need six right now to man our frigate and sink all those navy ships. Anyone want to try? It's free, and once you have the basic controls, pretty easy to pick up :)

03:12 pm Q: How do we make sure the audience knows Edward is a ~*~vampire~*~?
A: Make him look like a powdered whore.
I'm so fascinated with how awful all of this is, and how much people seem to love to it. Why? WHY??
Also: Look, mini-wank! Don't post about illegal drugs in naturalliving, kay guys?
You're oppressing cancer patients! You're censoring us! You're believing government lies! *flounce*
It's so cute.

It's cathartic, ok. I'm just one step farther to becoming a cat lady.

07:58 pm Dog's brought fleas into our house. :( Cats all have them too. He got a bath tonight with flea shampoo and the cats are up for tomorrow, plus washing of all the bedding, vacuuming the mattresses and couch. Luckily I just washed the living room rug two days ago and the rest of the floors are wood, but this sucks hardcore.
Also, I ran, and it hurt.

02:04 pm ( More photos )
I reseeded both anaheim and cayenne peppers, catnip and parsley, since none took the first time. Filled two pots and seeded them with african daisies and mint. And my gladiolus bulbs are /finally/ starting to sprout - we had a lot of cold weather in May, and I think they stayed dormant for a long time. My strawberries are producing like mad and a few are already starting to turn red. It's going to be a great harvest :D Discovered two hidden rosebushes in the front yard a few weeks ago that are now blooming - I'm not a huge fan of roses, but they're kinda cute. There's also a mystery bush behind our garage that's starting to make really cute little purple bell flowers.. all of my lilacs and rhododendrons are done blooming now, and there's snapdragons on one side of the house in full bloom. And on a hiking trip last week, I counted no less than eighteen different kinds of wildflower, and we ate wild raspberries :D
Oh, and we also finally put a fence around the garden so the dog can't go tearing through it and rip up all my seedlings, as well as put netting over the strawberries to keep the birds off. Whee!
Yesterday I learned how to trim a shrub, and we've started clearing beds in the front yard.
( One more.. )
I dig this gardening crap.

One of the kitties is peeing blood and I canNOT figure out which one it is. The army pay has not updated yet to show our new housing allowance, so we're short $400 a month for the higher rent till they do. As such, we're broke. I've been living on a credit card for two weeks. Also, our landlord is fucking crazy and I really want to leave /already/.
My birthday's on Wednesday :o

10:08 pm A few updates.
First, a note on gun safety, also known as the ( HOLY FUCK DID YOUR THREE YEAR OLD JUST SHOOT YOUR RIFLE?? story. )
Also, funky chicken noodle. I don't measure so amounts are a best guess!
2 cloves garlic, minced 4-5 sticks of celery, chopped Half zucchini, chopped & quartered 1 quarter purple onion, minced 1 quarter red bell pepper, chopped 1 potato, peeled and sliced, not chopped (they break up as they boil) Chicken bullion Soy sauce Whole wheat noodles Dried dill Powdered ginger
Melted some butter in a dutch oven on high, added a pinch each of salt and pepper and flour just as it started to sizzle. Celery and potatoes first, a little more flour, then the rest after a minute or so. After only a few minutes, add enough water to fill about 2/3 of the pot - less sautee means more color. Add the bullion and 3-4 dashes of soy sauce, bring back to boil and boil 10-ish minutes. Add noodles and boil another 5 or until noodles are tender. Just before noodles are finished add dill and ginger.
May need more salt. Either way, it was pretty damn good :)
And now! Iron Chef America marathon.
