Day #1
This is as good a place as any to start my new project/goals.  I thought about starting ANOTHER new journal, but I've got what seems like 20 or 30 or 40 that I never used, or used once and abandoned.  So, this is my latest effort and we'll see if it lasts longer than two days.

NEW GOALS!

A chapter a day of one book, any book.  Instead of wasting time playing (sorry if this is lame) Bejeweled, Bejeweled 2, or any of those other knock-off games that I am ridiculously addicted to, I'm going to start reading (at least) a chapter a day, on days when it's actually feasible that I could finish a chapter, not days when I'm getting home at 10 o'clock at night.  I'm going to try to be dedicated but I'm not going to lose sleep, either.  I read daily as it is, but usually when I'm exhausted and already in bed and my eyes are closed before I've read five pages.  So this will be a concerted effort!  Hopefully!  Because, honestly, I am a slow reader, I like to really ~absorb what I'm reading, and my mind wanders a lot of the time, and then I have to re-read paragraphs.  ADD problem?  I have no idea.  Even if I'm completely interested in what I'm reading, my mind will go other places and I'll have read an entire page and have no clue what I've just read.

For some sad reason I think a chapter a day might be pushing my limits, which sounds awful and pathetic and something I would roll my eyes at if anyone else said it.  So, we'll see.  I'm only thinking that because I'm planning on re-reading those books I was supposed to read in high school, which I don't really remember and don't think I ever finished, even though I was always in honors English classes.  First up (after I finish what I'm reading now) is Great Expectations but damn, that book was hard.  They were all difficult to my teenager-y self.  And will they still be difficult?  I don't know and I'm scared to find out, because I reeeeallly don't want them to be.

First up.  Don't laugh.  The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.  I adored the movie from the time I was at least 7.  I got the book out of the library as a teenager and could not finish it (which is a very regular trend with me).  It was not my cup of tea back then.  I've already started the book and I'm on page 146, so my first goal is to finish the chapter I'm on by tonight.

My thoughts so far?  Waaaay too many metaphors.  They are everywhere, but they're generally beautiful and flowy and lovely, so it's okay.  I can only picture the movie in my mind when I'm reading this, and it is an amazingly close adaptation.  What I really loved was the intro of Schmedrick and his description.  It was intimate and alive and real.  I'm not sure why, I'd have to go back and re-read, but I loved it.

More to come.  Finishing up at least chapter 11 tonight., which is ~~10 whole pages~~~.  My favorite quote from this chapter so far - "A dream that returns so often is like to be a messenger, come to warn you of the future or to remind you of things ultimately forgotten."  Love that.

OTHER MINOR GOALS!

Daily, besides my one chapter, I'd like to eat at least one apple, stretch for 10 minutes, and do cardio for 30 minutes.  Cardio for 30 minutes is less than I usually do when I actually exercise, but daily for 30 minutes is better than one hour two or three times a week.  At least I think it is.

ETA:  Still working on chapter 11 but I have to say that some of his sentences are EPIC.  A lot of these epic sentences are in the movie.  Lady Amalthea and her unicorn dreams, love love love, simply epic.

ETA2:  DONE with chapter 11.  Moving on to chapter 12 later on.  Epic, I tell you, EPIC.

ETA3:  Chapter 12 done.  I love all the book characters so much more than the movie characters.

Apple:  1
Chapter:  1-1/2
Cardio:  30 minutes
Stretching:  10 minutes
