Oh my god, Obama won. Unmistakably, not just the coasts, you go, midwest, won.

I'm so happy, and so relieved, and we did it. Obama won! EEEEEEEEEE!!!

And it's still too close to call, but I think he may have pulled off NC, IN and MO as well. And that rocks.

So, my sad little flower-box garden has done miserably this year (not enough sun, mostly), but whatever the hell this interloper at the end of the box is, it's doing wonderfully.

EDTA: It almost looks like a tomato plant (despite my not planting tomatoes this year), but something seems a bit off, and it totally doesn't have that tomato plant smell. If it turns out to be some sort of tomato anyway, I'll have to move it inside when it gets cold and see what happens.
EDTA2: It is, in fact, a tomato plant. Given its origins, I'll have to keep an eye on it, lest it be destined to become Darth 'Mater.

And as long as I'm posting my random thoughts on pop culture phenomena
I read an awful lot of trash as a teenager. You want Sues and skeevy world views? I got your Earth's Children/Clan of the Cave Porn right here. And, oy, the Chris Pike and the V.C. Andrews, and the Sweet Valley High, and the godawful World of Greyhawk fantasy series. No lasting harm came from it, and occasionally I get to bond with others over how ridiculous it all was.

The big difference between teenaged me and the Twihards? I knew damn well that the books were trash, and I might have actually died of embarrassment if any adult I knew had read them. I'd shake my head over the state of kids these days, except that the scariest fans always turn out to be my mother's age, so all I can really say is D:

    So, Cloverfield
Yeah, I finally watched Cloverfield. It should have been right up my alley, since I have a great fondness for cheesy B-movie horror, and yet.

Did anyone else get the feeling that there was actually a really interesting movie going on right over there that we couldn't see because we were stuck following the idiot with the camera? (Seriously, dude, put the camera down and do something useful.)

So, while the rest of the internet is gnashing their collective teeth over Dr. Horrible Act III, I just cast NPH as Seymour in my imaginary remake of Little Shop of Horror.

I'm sure this makes me insensitive to the plight of something-or-other.

    Public Service Announcement
Do not sing on the train. Particularly, do not sing what sound like show tunes at full volume in your piercingly over-enthusiastic tenor on the train during rush hour, when you are no more than 6 inches away from anyone.

This has been yet another announcement from the How Not To Be A Jackass On The T Foundation.

5 Unpopular Fandom Opinions, House MD edition
I've got 20 minutes left at work and jack-all to do, so here's some spam.

    1. I don't find Hugh Laurie or Robert Sean Leonard particularly physically attractive. (Hugh Laurie still manages to pull off 'hot' at times, but I bet RSL looked just like Milhouse VanHouten when he was a kid.)

    2. I don't think that House has NPD, APD or falls anywhere on the autism scale. It's still possible for people to be emotionally fucked up without it being outlined in the DSM.

    3. I think that House/Wilson would probably be one of the most mutually destructive romantic relationships ever. (I tend to feel this way about a lot of popular TV ships. *sigh*)

    4. I miss Stacy. Stacy was fun.

    5. I still find it hard to believe that with all the unnecessary shit they've done "for his own good," Wilson and Cuddy have not yet managed to get House to an actual pain specialist. Wilson's an oncologist, for god's sake. He has to know people.

    Bender's Big Score
Finally got around to watching this, after avoiding spoilers forever.

After all of the bitching from various fans, I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah, it wasn't perfect. Parts of it dragged, the musical numbers didn't really fit all that well, and some of the gory bits crossed the line from funny to icky. But overall, it was at least as good as your average Season 4 episode, and it was brilliant in parts.

I did see the 'big twist' coming from a lightyear away.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the movies.

Okay, so Daylight Savings Time has been kicking my ass all week, but is that really any excuse to read "Polarities Persist in Democratic Race" as "Poltergeists Persist in Democratic Race"?

Moreover, I'm disappointed that I read it wrong. Because while I'm totally sick of Obama's and Clinton's respective fen and their flamewars, there has been a distinct lack of spectral activity this Primary season. Just sayin.

Yesterday: The kind of day that ends with me driving a rental
So, black ice fucking sucks. And while I managed not to lose it on the phone with the overly-sympathetic-in-a-really-not-helpful-way roadside assistance lady (It only has 4000 miles on it? ...oh wow. And you need a tow truck? ...oh wow.), I did snap at one of the insurance reps who was unfortunate enough to be the 3rd person in twenty minutes to ask me how my day had been. Which I actually am sorry about, but at the time I was more focused on trying not to cry too much. Sorry, random claim assistance lady, wherever you are.

In other randomness, I really wish someone would do a good movie version of the musical Little Shop of Horrors. One that keeps the original ending and the balance between dark and camp intact.

    Darn strict modding
There is a hotbed of wank and crazy bubbling just beneath the surface on the Order of the Stick forums, but their policy of enforced politeness means there will probably never be the wanksplosion there could be. Instead you get snotty TL:DR arguments over who the hottest stick chick is, and those aren't funny. They're just boring and/or annoying.
