Oh. god. Tahno/Korra shippers please STFU.

Spoilery stuff about TLoK so see under the cut.

Jesus fucking Christ, Tahno's a huge conceited asshole dickhead who thinks he's totally hot shit, plus he put two people in the hospital just to prove a point to the Fire Ferret team.

Yet people have all kinds of ridiculous fan-art shipping them?

Dafuq?

Korra hates his fucking guts. Did you see her face after he tried his sleazeball come-on lines to her?

To think I thought the Makorra people were batshit nuts. Tahnorra takes it to a whole new level.

Yeah, my fandom, y u so crazy.

It's probably some sort of Leatherpants Draco thing.

+1

If two characters get on well, they'll be shipped because they like each other. If there are two characters who really dislike each other, they'll be shipped because there's so much ~passion~ between them. If one of the characters seems to be evil, they'll get fic about their horrible childhoods.

TBH, redeeming Zuko and having Mako and Korra not get on well at first in canon really help people do this, but it's a staple in all fandoms.

On that note, now that Tahno had That Horrible Thing happen to him at the end of episode six, I'm just waiting till the shippers get hold of the ~*angst*~ and how Korra feels she simply must heal it.

Even if Tahno is an Asshole Victim (warning TVTropes) there will be fans that want to Leather Pants him and have Korra beat herself up over how WRONG she was about him.

I'm reading an HP fic series right now that's really bringing home how true this is even when it's not about shipping at all. I got hooked because the premise is that the Potters get out of Godric's Hollow in time because Snape was able to bring a warning. Literally every part of this fic is about how wrong everyone has been to Snape and how badly people feel when they think about how he's been treated. It's textbook, from the "offhand mention of horrible torture that ~seems normal now~, causing looks of horror" to the "everyone tells off another character for not thinking enough about what they've just done/said".

"offhand mention of horrible torture that ~seems normal now~, causing looks of horror"

Yeah - the horrible torture that seems normal to him because he voluntarily joined a hate crime group designed to do exactly that to others, and oh whoops the psychopath in charge doesn't mind aiming it at his minions too if they screw up. JFC. I never cease to be amazed at how so many fans seem genuinely convinced that Snape had been wronged by a bigoted society more than, say, Remus or Lily. I mean, the way that they go on about 'anti-Slytherin bigotry' you'd think that they honestly believe that Slytherins are harder done-by in the wizarding world than werewolves or muggleborns.

Can I have a link to this fic series? I'll read it if I ever need something to mentally spork.

See my comment to esclaramonde, you might be interested in another fic to spork.

Yeah, I think that's what gets me most about Snape-woobie fics like this one - they brush off the bad things that have happened to all the other characters, to the point where it actually seems to break canon. Snape and Lily pick up directly where they left off. The one thing I will give it (beyond the writing being decent and the premise being good) is that the author doesn't make Sirius evil to compensate - if anything, there are a couple of times when Sirius gets what a problem is more than James.

Did you ever read "The Birthday Present" by excessivelyperky? It's practically stamped from the same mold, in which the fic makes sure to always remind us at least once a chapter of how hard done by ~Severus~ is.

It sounds familiar, but in looking it up I don't recognize it.

Dear Mrs. Dursley. I am one of your nephew's teachers at his school, and I must commend you for how you have dealt with a difficult situation. Few women would have exerted themselves to raise a sister's child despite all the problems that usually entails. I have found the boy a handful myself. I also sympathize with anyone who must deal with other members of the family who react badly to your generosity. Trust me, I am truly concerned for your welfare, and that of your family.

Hahahahahaha what

lulz. :P

The fic does make it clear that in that instance, Snape is handling her, in the sense that he's aware of what's likely really going down but he needs to sop her ego.

Still, there's plenty of other OOC material to work with that's just as bizarre.

First, that sentence makes no sense. I think "despite" does not mean what she thinks it means.

Second, what. My mom has three sisters. Any of them would have taken me in if something had happened to my parents. That excerpt looks like it was written by Vernon's sister.

To be fair, episode seven had a scene where Tahno looks very battered and pitiable, far from his former immaculately groomed self, and is much nicer, friendlier and more polite to Korra into the bargain. So Tahnorra shippers aren't explicitly sunk yet. In fact, they're better off than they were a week ago.

Also, the situation with poor Asami and her Dad? Insert 'BRB tearbending' gif here.

True, he did, but that doesn't change how much of a huge jerk he was to people in general.

Asami and her Dad? Dayyyyum. That was a helluva episode. :O I capslocked about it over on atla_fandom. :P
