As of yesterday, June 23rd, the Joann store nearest to me had their Christmas fabric out. Only 6 months and 2 days away folks! Barely more than half a year! Better start preparing now!

I've just played Minecraft for 6 hours straight and somewhere in there I forgot how to blink.
And now I've set up a time tomorrow to download, install, and start a WoW trial account.

First storm of the winter! So far I've lost two plants to the storm when one of the gusts knocked them off my deck. Gusts of 45mph here and 50+ at my parents' house in Tacoma. ~200,000 people in western Washington without power tonight and the 54k in Tacoma have to wait until Tacoma Power repairs the feed transmission lines before they can even think about getting to the neighborhood outages. Interstate 5 has been blocked several times by falling trees, several state highways are shut down due to trees and downed lines, anyone who lives on an island of any size has no power and won't for days... it's a nice little storm tonight.
The front lawn of my apartment complex looks like a giant sprinkled confetti made of shingles everywhere. It's amazing how beautiful and dark the night sky is with all those lights off and the giant confetti just adds an extra touch of the unreal to it all.

Attempting work today. It may be a mistake as I have only had 5 hours sleep because of my idiot neighbor. Dude, you're upset and angry. That's no reason to blow into the parking lot, tires squealing, smoke billowing, and then getting drunk and blasting Linkin Park until midnight. Grow up and get some manners yah jackass! *grumbles*
I may have another addiction: Minecraft. It will cost 15 dollars to get the whole thing, but I think I can easily get my money's worth in entertainment if the demo kept me fully immersed for over an hour last night.
Has anyone else noticed the message when posting about the timestamp being on server time? Is that new or am I just unobservent?

"LiveJournal will be down for a two-hour maintenance window starting at 1 a.m. Pacific time on Thursday, November 11, 2010, so that we can perform hardware upgrades."Any bets on the number of wanks which will be spawned from this? I'm betting three, but only two will actually make it to my flist. My bet is also that whatever maintenance/upgrades occur will spawn one giant massive wank. *stocks up on beverages and snacks*

Sick. At home. one hour of activity results in two hours of bedrest or napping. Have honey tea and can't work up the energy to feel guilty about missing work. On plus side am working through backlog of books and keeping very clean. On minus side the hot water tank is empty again and I'm getting eyestrain.

10:38am: It's almost Thanksgiving
And you know what that means! Yes, that's right, a week long head cold! Been through a box of tissues in three days and somehow I'm not sick enough to justify taking a sick day or two. So sleepy, so drippy... *just feels all oogy*

I had a whole post topic set up and ready to be written upon. And now I can't remember what it was. -_- Um. It was something very interesting! I just know it was! Ah well. Amuse yourselves by searching for Non-Newtonian Fluid videos on YouTube while I call in the spelunkers to retrieve my idea from the depths of my brain.

I need a scary Halloweeny userpic so I can do a spooky post here soon in honor of Halloween. But I need ideas! I'm notoriously hard to scare, even in real life (my default fight or flight response for scary situations is to dissolve into giggles at whomever is trying to scare me because they're just so silly), so I need to know what scares YOU. Yes, all you normal people out there, what gives you the goosebumps, the collywobbles, that tinge of paranoia that keeps you from looking behind you just in case there really is something, or someone, there. Late at night, alone in the darkness, what remembered stories cause your breath to catch in your throat and make you realize you're not alone in the room? Huddled under the blankets, their weight on top of you as a shield against everything bad, what do you see in your mind hovering over your bed, thwarted by the blankets' power? Bonus points if it's something I can take screencaps of/from.
10:45am: "It's SPOOK-TACULAR!"
Can whomever is in charge of Halloween advertising please contact me with their contact information and bribe levels please? I wish to have the use of the word "spooktacular" and all associated variants banned with severe punishments (involving spray-cheese, camels, fleas, and a very sharp straight razor) for any use of said word by anything and anyone where a monetary transaction is involved. This has been brought to you by an email account where 5 of the 7 Halloween-related emails received in regards to sales or special give-us-your-money events in the last week have had a "spooktacular" variant in the subject line.

I'm having so much trouble concentrating on work today. I'm just not feeling motivated. Part of that is hormones, lack of sleep, and frustration (why isn't there decent documentation for what I'm trying to do? Not even Google has anything!), but most of it is because I only have 9.5 hours until I'll be gazing with rapturous attention upon Lois McMaster Bujold as she comes through town doing a booksigning and talk. *squees* I'll also get to hang out before and after with fellow book-nerd friends whom I haven't seen in months. ^_^ I've already picked out the books for her to sign, a SFBC omnibus edition of the first two Sharing Knife books and a copy of Cryoburn for a friend in Australia. Maybe I'll stick around and get my copy of Miles In Love signed too, but if she's been run as ragged this tour as the last, well, she needs rest (and food!) more than I need another signature. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Can't wait!

Work sucks. Most of my interactions with the boss today have had me chanting "I'm sorry I'm so stupid" inside my head while he gets visibly more frustrated with the current situation. It's to the point where more than likely I'll be putting in extra hours and just not telling him about them in an effort to seem smarter and more efficient and make him happy. This is VERY worrisome as it means that stress and other factors are combining to make me regress to my former doormat state. My internet and TV are broken. I swapped out everything in the apartment last night that could be swapped and still had the same problems, so the tech said they'd send someone by to check out the outside lines today and if there's no problem there they'll check the inside of my apartment tomorrow. I'll have to leave work at noon, so I better be here darn early (7am if not earlier) to get work done. Gods, why do I feel like such a fat dumb idiot today?

(Bolding is my emphasis) From http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-4646&tab=summaryH.R. 4646: Debt Free America Act 111th Congress This is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of Representatives ("H.R."). A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate and then be signed by the President before it becomes law. Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a session of Congress. This bill was created in the 111th Congress, in 2009-2010. Summary Debt Free America Act - States as purposes of this Act the raising of sufficient revenue from a fee on transactions to eliminate the national debt within seven years and the phasing out of the individual income tax. Amends the Internal Revenue Code to impose a 1% fee, offset by a corresponding nonrefundable income tax credit, on transactions that use a payment instrument, including any check, cash, credit card, transfer of stock, bonds, or other financial instrument. Defines "transaction" to include retail and wholesale sales, purchases of intermediate goods, and financial and intangible transactions. Establishes in the legislative branch the Bipartisan Task Force for Responsible Fiscal Action to review the fiscal imbalance of the federal government and make recommendations to improve such imbalance. Provides for expedited consideration by Congress of Task Force recommendations. Repeals after 2017 the individual income tax, refundable and nonrefundable personal tax credits, and the alternative minimum tax (AMT) on individuals. Directs the Secretary of the Treasury to: (1) prioritize the repayment of the national debt to protect the fiscal stability of the United States; and (2) study and report to Congress on the implementation of this Act. Uh... I'm getting this Really Bad Feeling about this bill...

12:39pm: Health update
Been going to physical therapy once a week. My PT has been arguing fiercely with the maker of support garments to try and get me a pair that fits. Hopefully this week I'll have that pair. She's resorted to safety pins and tape to get them the shape they should be on me and then mailing that pair back to them saying "Here, make it look like THIS." In the meantime my legs are slowly but steadily re-inflating.
Eight days ago I went to a wedding and got bit by a mosquito on the back of my arm, right down near the elbow. I've suspected that the big rolls which now cover my elbow are fluid pockets for quite some time, but this bite proved it. It took almost a week to scab over and during that week I could reach up, squeeze it, and watch the clear lymph fluid pouring out. It's doing EXACTLY what my legs did when I got diagnosed. Gonna talk to my PT about it on Tuesday and see if I can get upper arm squeezers without a doctor's prescription because I'm private pay. Hopefully she'll say yes.
There's an order for a diabetes blood test sitting on my desk right now. I really REALLY don't want to do it, but I don't have much of a choice. It supposedly can tell if I've had diabetes anywhere in the last 3 months and is the choice when it comes to diagnosing diabetes, but once I've got that on my medical record it's gonna be darn near impossible to find health insurance later.
Summary: Not dead yet, but still stuck on the downslope.

Much better tonight. Just spent two hours laughing* at Coupling and may now be more than slightly addicted. Am now heading to bed early so I can get more than 5 hours sleep. Argh, my jaw is still sore from the needles... hate getting shot in the jaw. Draw blood? No problem. Vaccination? Here's my arm, have at it. Numb me up before drilling? Oh HELL NO PLEASE DEAR LORD GET IT AWAY FROM ME OOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW mommy make it go away *whimper* *I may have scared small children playing outside with my involuntary barks of laughter. This counts as a plus in the scheme of things.

Y'know, a girl with aspirations, ambitions, and few ethics or morals could do far worse than use the RIAA as an example of How To Do Things: The Right and Wrong Edition.
As one commentor on the Ars Technica article said, "Welcome to America, where the people are free, and the congressmen are inexpensive..."

Deciding to read a chapter in my book at lunch was a good idea. Assuming the author actually broke the book into chapters was not a good idea. Ah well, everyone deserves an hour long lunch sometimes.
